Well Kevin and the gang finally opened the new digg for the public.
We no longer have to go the long way to get there and we don’t have two separate versions of digg. It’s all in one now.
So if you didn’t get an invite a week ago, No worries. You can now see what we all were buzzing about.

How To Sell A Domain Name

July 15th, 2009 Tech News No comments

If you are following this from the day I posted it, you are to soon. I am working on this for a few days to get the site I am selling , sold. as I progress I will come back to this page and post a link to the next. You might want to book mark this. It’s not a fast process.

In 2008 I added  a domain name iworkwithmusic.com . to my set of websites. I also have IWORKWITHTECH and  IWORKWITHPEOPLE.COM . My intentions where to allow musicians to advertise their band and music so people would know how to find their content or when the musicians would have a show. The goal was to make it totally free for the musicians to do what they needed to get their content seen. The goal was to make that website the place scouts would eventually go to  so they could look for bands or people to sign to their label.  Sorry to say I could not come up with the money it takes to advertise such a site. I wanted to make sites that show I work with certain fields and I want to help people get known in certain categories that these people want to be known. So I was lucky to get a site that stays with my theme.

With all the chatrooms all over the internet with a dj this and dj that as screen names. Not one person would sign up. Either that means my site is not attractive, It’s hard to understand what it is, Musicians just do not get on the internet much, 90% of the people who call their selves a dj within social networks, Really are not.

Maybe I am bitter.  It really felt like I was doing this from the heart, but it failed.

So I have been scouring the internet studying how I can sell my website. There is a large number of sites that talk about buying, selling, auctioning websites. I will not be auctioning. That of course is like eBay, you could end up selling your plasma tv for a dollar. I will hold out, and I will try more ideas on  iworkwithmusic.com until the site is sold for a fair price. It has great potential.

I looked at godaddy’s auction, there is no way you will get me to post my site on there for $5 plus 5-7% . That place is for domain squatters. What is a domain squatter? people who buy a site just to sell it. like the 90000 people who buy up websites with the name of a dead star Right after tragedy hit  and try to sell it and become millionaires. Go to eBay and look at all the Farrah and Micheal sites for auction that no one is buying. It’s disrespectful and we all know that people like that do not deserve to profit from that. There are others who just steadily type  all sorts of ideas and park them with a for sale sign on them. See if you have not tried to unload a good website, you do not know that it is an option to auction or sale them. You just go to the website you  normally go to  and type in the domain name you want for your great idea, and if the site is available you get it. If it is not, you try something close.  In that case you end up with a domain like 1111iworkwithpeople1111.com and really that is completely unattractive and leaves you unmotivated.

Searches I have done.

evaluate my website That turns up a bunch of websites that you pay to tell you what your site is worth to them as a buyer. You will not be happy unless you  own yahoo or google or msn. it turns up crap. They want to charge you to tell you that your site is worth about 25 bucks. They get these prices by counting the letters in your site, not what the domain name means. Many of them also look at the content on the site and do their evaluation by the relevance of the name to the content, cool, if I was selling the whole site. Sorry I amusing a free php script from e107. Their works has nothing to do with the value of the domain by by it’s actual value.

what is my Site worth

Ok this one is a little bit more fun. but I have to warn you, it’s like playing a flash based video game… it’s not reall. but they do tell you how you rank in search engines.

Most of them use Google and Alexa.. Alexa??? really ???  Wasn’t Alexa considered bad news??  Well if it was, I guess that does not matter when you are checking the value of your sites traffic. Needless to say I failed all the alexa tests, because I refuse to put their software on my site. Most  anti-spyware programs go nuts with anything with eth word alexa in it, sooo  I will not be making my visitors uncomfortable.

This one Did not please me at all. I tried all my sites, every single site I typed in was the exact same value. $10 . I even tried the domain name for the company I work for, it’s a few years old (google way back machine). and it came up the same. A company that makes 2G a day from that website.

I have no idea what this site uses but it valued my site at …. $0  hmm. not cool so far BUT it does see truxtertech.com at a much better price. So that one is real, well at least the prices changes a bit more often at a much more broad range. Still have no idea what it does. It might read page count, since the page count is on the main site truxtertech and since iworkwithtech is a sub-directory there really are no stats to offer.

Websiteoutlook Sees the site as being worth $255 and says it gets 35 cents a day in ad revenue, hmm I have no advertisements on it, and it shows an old screenshot. May have been that long since I had advertisements. I removed them  because I thought they might have been a turn off to visitors.

dnscoop Sees the site as about 120 bucks.. Alexa is it’s biggest focus.  Selling a domain name, not a cache cookie farm.

This piece of work Saw all of my sites as 77 dollars. their php script is mis configured , but shows a nice price for it’s own domain. LOL! no thanks…  on top of that, they use technoroti to evaluate your site. it almost looks like they are using dnscoop through an iframe.

So far I am not impressed much by any of those. but we will see as this process continues.

What is a good webhosting service?

March 23rd, 2009 TruXter No comments

I’m happy with my current host, and about to recommend a friend there.
but i am wondering what company gives the least amount of frustration?
bluehost?
justhost?
powweb?

I do plan to use php and mysql while working on their site for them.
so please any and all information is good.
Should I get justhost? all the sites say it’s great, but all the blogs and forums say it’s only a year old and a rip off. but i do not know. what do you think of justhost, bluehost, powweb ?
something other?
comments section is wide open you do not have to create an account to comment.

like this site says they are wonderful (read closely)
and they teach you how to search the internet to see if they “suck”
but I tried to search for something else
I found this when I searched “Scam”

Of course I found this when I followed their rules

But then again, we are talking about a tech community. Techies do pick and peck at all details, especially when worrying about income and monetizing the internet’s activity.

So people, tell what is good
Bang for buck, what is the best hosting plan

Internet Explorer released

March 22nd, 2009 TruXter No comments

Well here we are passed the whole” let’s catch up with firefox” phase of adding tabs. Let’s see if explorer caught up on the whole ” well let’s let them see the page they are trying to access , before we ask them if they want to save the password.” One thing I hate is when a page will not load until I select yes or no on save password “what if I typoed”.

Some have informative responses (kinda)
http://technology.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/tech_and_web/article5937995.ece

Steve Ballmer, the chief executive officer of Microsoft, said: “With Internet Explorer 8, we are delivering a browser that gets people to the information they need, fast, and provides protection that no other browser can match.”

but here is the actual page so you can evaluate for yourself
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx

Now you can quickly display websites that were designed for older browsers. If you’re looking at a page and the text or images aren’t lined up right, just use the new Compatibility View button next to the Refresh button on the Address Bar.

What is Google Analytics

August 14th, 2008 TruXter No comments

If you have ever  clicked in to see a website and noticed that by you launch/start button you notice your browser says that you are waiting for  some program to start up from google. If you have ever said ” Hmmm should I be scared?”

If you are looking for a simple answer,

It’s a program you link with code on your website. The code in your  website sends information to google. Th information gathered is really thorough.  Types of data gathered are about the people surfing your website, such as point of origin, screen resolution, operating system, Exact search query, time on site, exit location.

For me some of this information is pretty useful. It tells me what size pictures I can put on my site to please the common public, what browser and operating system is my target to please. What content people where looking for and if I have exactly what they want or should I cover that content also or should I give a link to someone who does.

Google’s Version of the story

Not to be super conspiracy filled, but.

Um, that’s to much info about me. I am not comfortable with that much data. I really wouldn’t want the guy’s on the adopt a pet, website seeing that I whent straight to their site from an athlete’s foot site, and when I left I whent to a site about people who liked to eat with their feet.

Why is it that the google urchin gathers personal info about  us, kinda adware info. I mean really isn’t it for advertisement purposes….. why doesn’t my spybot ,asquared and addaware find it?  it is a js file so it does have beef.

Other than the issue with my personal self not liking the monitoring, I love being able to  tweak my site with the info I gather.

Taste Of Cool (cuil search engine)

August 1st, 2008 TruXter 1 comment

Very simple pretty look, the black background looks nice with the blue search button and rounded text area box. The engine fast and gives results almost instantly. A great thing for them is after you have done a search, there is a preference link at the top of the page. so far there are only two options there, but in time I am positive they will include new applets that run with the site’s engine. This could be a good thing. I have yet to have found a “submit url” on the site, but I did find a link to talk to tech support, I did request a few things. When they reply I will be posting more on that subject. Yes I did cover a link submission. If they know what’s best and simplest for them, they will bring that option in. If they bring it in too soon, chances are we are looking at another crash like their launch. I can imagine all of the people flooding in to submit the links. All at once. The name is short and easy to type and remember. The place has huge potential of being the greatest. But I had to do a search.

First thing I had to do is a vanity search on cuil.

http://www.cuil.com/search?q=TruXter

I found links that are well over a year old and dead.

I found links from a blog I deleted nearly two years ago.

None of my current /recent projects showed up. (recent as in within the past year and a half.

When I got home I did a search for a Fire Alarm company in Houston that I built a website for

HiTech Fire Detection

But the results show a website that has been on a whole new server for about two months now.

http://www.cuil.com/search?q=hitech+fire+detection

The old long dead link, out ranks the fresh  clean actual page.

Try HiTech Integrated Solutions, Similar results.

Cuil needs to re-crawl pages and check for updates.

As of right now, Not quite the Google killer some have claimed. But really this company seems a bit more modest than that. They might just be a new search.

A Letter To Comcast- You Blocked My Site!

January 14th, 2008 TruXter 6 comments

I am the owner of iworkwithpeople.comI have not been able to connect to my website now for nearly a week, I have seen that I can connect while at work on a t3 line, and I can connect on my female friend’s computer that has a dsl line, and a few friends from live.Pirillo.com have helped me and checked the connection from where they are and they all connect.. except the people on comcast . My site’s address is iworkwithpeople.com and the service I have is through 50megs.com. i assume they took it upon themselves to block 50megs.com for what ever reason they saw fit. in the process of blocking 50megs, they blocked me.. This reduces the number of page visits considerably. Considering they monopolized the cable industry, it looks more like a 20′s gangster bull crap “ehh mugsy don’t let no one connect to them until they pay me 50% seeeeeeee” .I am not happy with this .

The letter I wrote is to follow

Comcast Houston blocking my domain.
I own a website, through 50megs.com
I can connect to my file manager on sbc dsl, I can connect through sprint dsl and I have connected at work with a t3 line, but when I get home or to any of my friend’s houses with Comcast I can not connect to 50megs.com . I am near time to re up on my domain name and hosting bills and getting really frustrated that I can not connect from home where i feel safe. I want to connect to my service and it appears you are blocking me. Please look into this and solve this issue.

50megs.com is down

January 12th, 2008 TruXter 4 comments

They host my stuff and for two days now I can not log into my account or even see http://iworkwithpeople.com

which is hosted at 50megs.com .. heck i can’t even go to 50 megs. . this is killing my visit count.

You know, I am starting to think  comcast is blocking my host’s i.p. address.

No one can go there that I know of, who are on comcast.

I mean my buddy in another city on dsl can go there

I can go there from my job just 4 miles up the road, and my job uses a whole nother service.

if you can go to 50megs.com or iworkwithpeople.com   please leave a notice as to what service you use and which of the two sites you can access.
