Search Engine Indexing

First get some good SEO Tools and a good webhost  powweb if you haven’t already got unlimited domain storage and low yearly fees.
If you can not find your website in search engines (Google, Bing), then your website is not indexed. Or your search term that you think your website is about, is not what The search engines have you indexed as. You need to optimize your website. Optimization is not just about making your website fast. Optimization is about using all optimal components of your websites design, to bring you traffic, and make return traffic to your website. Return traffic to your website means your site has been designed well, looks good and your content is exactly what the person was looking for. This is proper optimization.
So, how do you get your website listed in search engines like Google and Bing?
It’s not complicated to get your website indexed, and you don’t have to buy some software.
We have all seen Google just did it’s huge update to the way it indexes websites. And we see page rank coming back. This is a great deal. We also see relevance to what you are searching for and it’s closest proximity to the location of your ip address. We also see that Google has given us a real time display of results as you type your search into the search field. This fast work on Google’s part. The results are accurate to the existing text and the results change as you type more and refine your search to a more detailed inquiry.
How do you make this work for you?
You have to know how Search engines see your website.
You have to stay with in the guidelines of all search engines. And yes this can seem like a crazy format for writing content to your website, but you have to do it.
Think of your content. What is your article about? Write that word down on a peice of paper , label that piece of paper “keywords”. Try and think of everything that goes with that first main keyword. Like if you are selling locks, your keyword there is locks. What goes great with locks? Maybe a door??? and so on. till you have 15-30 keywords.
Write good legible logical content using the keywords you selected. It does not hurt to say the keywords a couple times. Especially the main keyword. because well it’s all about locks. but do not over do it. Try and set yourself at about 5 times per keyword. This will keep you from filling your page with that one word, and it makes your written content bearable to read by the customer. If Search engines do not like your content, humans surely will not.
Meta tags. You have to use meta tags to tell the search engines what your keywords are.
They look like this .

<META NAME=”KEYWORDS” CONTENT=”keywords,here,use,commas”>

Put your keywords in there and order them by level of importance. Main keyword up front far left. Or you can do them by order of appearance. I do this and it works great for me.

It takes a week or so for Google to find you by the keywords you chose. Your site will be sorted by these keywords, once it is verified as being relevant to your content.

Once your site gets traffic via searches, and said traffic that hits your site, stays with in your site (because your content is actually interesting, relevant to the search, etc.), before returning to searching for the same topic, or the search stops there, Google will then index your website as being relevant to the searches you created your keywords for. Your website will then have one page indexed for it’s content.

You must optimize every single page of your website. When doing that, you must make every page of your website of a value to your company. You must make the  keywords for each page of your website relevant to each page alone. Once you have multiple pages that Google indexes as relevant to specific topics, and that each topic is associated to the website in a whole, you will then begin to gain page rank. Once you gain Google rank you will then be considered before websites that do not have rank as being informative for searches related to your website.

Don’t(s)
Do not just create pages on your website, just to have pages. If you are trying to sell a product, you want every page of your website to be an informative ad for one of your products.
Do not make an integrity page. If you want to sell people on how you “stand by your product” or “push forward and make the customer #1 priority”, go start a Facebook page. You are selling a product and if someone lands on that page and no where in that page is anything they are looking for, they will be very upset and will avoid your website next time, because it is a bummer to read everything about how you have honor but never mention how much memory the product holds, dimensions, amount of glow, how many miles per gallon it consumes. It is ok to mention your Honor somewhere in the product description. but not necessary. They are looking for the product.
Do not focus your website in flash. As nifty as you think flash is. Flash is slower to load, Flash is hard to read by Google. Flash is ok as decoration and attention sparkle. But completely useless when getting indexed in Google.
Do not play music on your website. Not everyone likes that song.
Do not over submit your website. if you submit your website more than one time to Google, you will be red flagged as spam. If your website suddenly shows up linked from 1000 websites in less than week, you may draw a bit to much attention to your website. You will get looked at and looked over with a fine comb. If every website that links to you shows the exact same text repeatedly, you will be considered spam and you will have wasted time. Lots of time.
Do not just target your most expensive product. Target your most popular product more than anything. You want to dominate in that product. You know what they are looking for when they find you, now make your site reflect that.

If you feel you must use an SEO company.
To thoroughly get your money worth of your Search Engine Optimization company you chose, Be very descriptive of your company. Make sure the search engine optimization company has deep details of your products. Give them the cut sheets and HOWTO manuals of your products. How the products are used and how they are associated to other products. You can not just call someone and say ” I need my website found in Google and just do not feel like doing all of the work”. Remember, this person works on websites. They know nothing of your product and it will take lots of study for them to build your website as knowledgeable of your product as you are. So it would be in your best interest to have target products, target information and let them know your needs. Otherwise you are just asking a stranger to be your number one sales person. Without training.

Getting your website into search engines such as Google or Bing, is not very complicated. As long as you build your website without stupid cheesy tricks. You know what cheesy is and you know what is a stupid trick. You know that most of the junk you want to put on your website, a 5 year old can see through them. So don’t do it. Just be informative, build clean and be interesting.
PS, Sorry for the typos. I’m sure there are many. I did this with my cell phone.

SKTOOL Ends Soon

Was double checking a post about site stats and analyzer tools I have batched/patched together when I clicked into google’s keyword search tool and found bummer news.

From the google page for SKTOOL

Search-based keyword tool will be discontinued soon
Please try out the updated keyword tool. You can get keyword suggestions by words, phrases, websites or categories.
Why are we transitioning?

Wont be gone, just part of another project.
Seo nightmare is losing good Seo tools. Just ask Search Engine Optimization Master and book writer Alicia Crowder. So I make sure I will not be left in the dark. By putting stuff together that works for me.

SEO KeyWord Analyzer

If you have been looking for an SEO Keyword Analyzer for your meta tags. I have one from seo centro.
This tool looks at your meta tags and your body text to see what you have and what you expect. Then it counts for repeated items to tell you what word is said and how many time. Then it does two word phrases and three word phrases. To locate certain specific search terms.
This helps you to better target your customers or readers for what they are actually searching for when they find your item or page for what it really is or is about.
meta tag Keyword usage is very important. If your keyword meta tag is filled with a bunch of gobbledy goop, that is not on your page, then you will not get categorized for what you are. No search engine allows fictional keyword tags. Your keywords say “hey this site is about “blah blah. If your key words do not match your content, you will be labeled as a junk website and it is a hard battle to get back up from that. A very hard long battle.

How to use this tool
Locate the URL box and type in your website address. Do not forget the “HTTP://” or the SEO Keyword Analyzer will not work properly. Locate the “Access code” box and type in the symbols located in the image above (I know…. I hate Captcha also). Press Submit and watch the magic.

Things to Consider When you Hire Someone to Design Your Website

Make sure that you have a place to store your material that composes your website. Make sure you have as much space as you possibly can, like powweb, they have unlimited storage at a very good price. Very good. So far I have registered for three different companies websites at powweb and all three were under $100 for two years.

Okay we all know that web-design, Some people can do it, some people can not do it. (wait, I am not selling you web design, simply because I am sick of it) I know it’s not actually an art . but you really have to think of it like you think of art. Try and not think of it as construction. You can not just lay out blueprints and say “hey this is how it goes, this is what i want and this is exactly what you will give me”. Ever try that crap with a guy that just draws cartoons or caricatures ? You can’t go and grab someone who draws realistic drawings with perfect angles shading lighting and life like appeal, to just draw you on a rocket ship with a rodeo clown shirt on. It’s just not his thing, and well, he has his certain fields he has focused on really well. It is best you let him utilize his abilities to his best interest.

You are not a web designer. So having a lay out or a design  that you want, well you are going to have to do it yourself. If you do not lay out your website yourself, be certain that what he will make for you, will not be to your liking on the first round. It’s just a fact.

A person that knows about web design is doing everything with full optimization in mind. This person has this thing laid out with full SEO integrated in their design. The more you toss ideas at them and the more you incorporate a third party web designer in this project, the more you throw this guy out of his field of operation. You will also start to make a complete professional web-designer look like a total amateur. Let him finish his project and you will see what he gave you will have tons of great cooperative segments of the site’s design.
Have an open mind, be prepared for creative differences and be prepared for someone more knowledgeable in this field to tell you that what you want will not work. Or be prepared for someone to just build you exactly what you want and leave to to fight the internet on your own.

1. If you have a specific idea that you want done and must have, then be clear about what you want from the start. Draw it on paper, show each page individually and fill in the exact text you want or need that explains that page. He can not read your mind. He is not in your business, or you would have more competition. Be prepared for the designer to re-word your text to handshake his SEO portion of the design.

2. Give all logos you need for the design.

3. Be ready for some of your ideas to get scratched. They may be obsolete or to complex for the average user to enjoy. Or they just may screw up the Search Engine Optimization portion of your design. Some of your idea may be unrealistic.

4. Be certain that your site’s topics cover what means the most interest in your company. If you sell airplane door hinges, don’t make your company website talk about what your company started as, what it is becoming and what it is now. Make your website about airplane door hinges. It would take a pretty submissive web-designer to not tell you that you are goofing  by using the wrong content.

Don’t ask the designer of your website to copy another website. Do not go to the nearest search engine and steal pictures off of the internet and ask your web designer to design your website around them. Do not under estimate the power of proper Search Engine optimization. Do not expect SEO work to happen over night. It takes most search engines two weeks to set your site in rank order. Heck it actually takes that long just for them to get around to noticing you are there. Do not look at a crowded Navigation bar/ menu and request more in there without a bit of a remodeling.

You can have the site you want. Just have your wants and needs laid out already. save a copy for yourself and give a copy to the web guy. If you already have a web guy then by all means, let him do the work. just be ready to hire someone else for SEO and make sure your web guy is ready to comply with the SEO person. It’s hard for one web guy to go back behind another web designer and figure out what they changed and how to make it work with the full plan. Improper communication ends in crazy results.

Here is an image I found on Facebook that seemed to fit perfect.

Google Custom Home Page

Hey that’s nice they are trying to dress up the plain ol Home page. I mean it is a change but um.

What if we don’t want to see that? What if we don’t want to wait for our image to load.

Well I have some solutions, for me that is. TruXter Tech Custom Search.

I installed my toolbar and it gives me  me the choice to use the search as my home page.

The search uses Google as it’s engine so it’s like you don’t miss out on anything that you used to have.

but here is the custom search page from my toolbar. Nice and plain.

Either of the two will be fine. It’s like you get the old Google back. Works well for me.

The search is just the same as Google used  to be.

I liked Google just simply because it let me load a fast blank page that does not load massive files. So this solution is perfect for me.

But it does look like Google is following Bing now.

Site status check

Website Status, value and worth.

Well I have been working with  the company website ( the company I work for) trying to see what it’s page rank was and how well my SEO skills are. Doing that usually consisted of me hitting about 10 websites every day and me making the adjustments to the company website I felt like I needed to make.

Well, just as you would, I got tired of all of the Google searches I had to do and bookmarks to crank through. so I found a site that some dang dude was selling a php script  that would supposedly  do all the work for me. Well the program barely did but it gave me some insight as to what labors I needed to perform on the PHP script to make it work like I needed to get the information i needed

I needed  page rank information, I needed to see how many index pages in search engines I had, I also needed to find how many websites linked to me. So I took this clump of crap I bought for like  four dollars and started asking around if I could use tools from the sites the guy originally incorporated. Sad thing is, I have not gotten the “value” part in a monetary pattern. Soooo, It will not tell you what your website is worth.. Heck I don’t really have much faith in any of those sites. If you know of one that works really well and is spot on, please tell me where it is. I will contact the site owner and see what i can get done, for him, for me , for the users.

Website Status, value and worth.

Oh there is a “whois” tool added so you can check if a domain you want is open, sorry I do not sell website domain names. I do how ever like Netfirms. They seem to have the best prices. I don’t care much for their storage though.

Bing Verses Google

I started with a simple search for a friend. My friend is looking for a store, any store in Houston that has Thomas Kinkade books for sale. I did a search in Google first, and found only one location and it says Rice Village. I did the same exact search in Bing and found two locations, the next location says Galleria. I am not sure there are any books by TK. All i really find is paintings, and some company that says they have TK lights and Lamps. I personally think his paintings look like they are supposed to be on Christmas cards.

Fuzzy Snowy teddy bears.

In my frustration of searching something I have no idea about i decided to do another search that was more to my level.

My new search was “free image editing  tool”

Bing on it’s front page, never once linked G.I.M.P. but it did link a bunch of rubbish sites that talk about  image editing tools.

google how ever linked gimp second link and picassa  fifth link, it’s first link was “graphic soft” page showing gimp, photo scape, paint.net.

Actually, everything they linked in that page is found on the first page of the search results in google. Names I have heard of, Items I have used, stuff I know works.

Google won this one by far.

My follow up search. “free website flash”

First link in bing is flashmo

Flashmo has great stuff I know this for sure

The flash mo link in google is teh second, but the first is WIX, wix is for myspace flash . understandable that it is on top, more people want flash on their myspace than there are of website designers.

Again i score to google. simply because bing links wix twice in the first page. Looks like bing gets gamed easily.

my third search was “gta clans”

of course gtaclans.com is first result in both, but bing links second post as gamespy,SPAM. No one uses gamespy…. do they? i have never had anyone recomend gamespy to me.

google again

Fourth search was “discount auto parts”

Both had similar results, except  google linked some sort of carpet place on the first page. big no no.

I give that one to bing.

For the most part, these are hit and miss. it is nice to have two strong search engines. I just the lay out of bing. Otherwise it’s no worse or better than google.

Oh and all my searches  I only looked at the first page. the rest of the pages are always junk anyway.

Taste Of Cool (cuil search engine)

Very simple pretty look, the black background looks nice with the blue search button and rounded text area box. The engine fast and gives results almost instantly. A great thing for them is after you have done a search, there is a preference link at the top of the page. so far there are only two options there, but in time I am positive they will include new applets that run with the site’s engine. This could be a good thing. I have yet to have found a “submit url” on the site, but I did find a link to talk to tech support, I did request a few things. When they reply I will be posting more on that subject. Yes I did cover a link submission. If they know what’s best and simplest for them, they will bring that option in. If they bring it in too soon, chances are we are looking at another crash like their launch. I can imagine all of the people flooding in to submit the links. All at once. The name is short and easy to type and remember. The place has huge potential of being the greatest. But I had to do a search.

First thing I had to do is a vanity search on cuil.

http://www.cuil.com/search?q=TruXter

I found links that are well over a year old and dead.

I found links from a blog I deleted nearly two years ago.

None of my current /recent projects showed up. (recent as in within the past year and a half.

When I got home I did a search for a Fire Alarm company in Houston that I built a website for

HiTech Fire Detection

But the results show a website that has been on a whole new server for about two months now.

http://www.cuil.com/search?q=hitech+fire+detection

The old long dead link, out ranks the fresh  clean actual page.

Try HiTech Integrated Solutions, Similar results.

Cuil needs to re-crawl pages and check for updates.

As of right now, Not quite the Google killer some have claimed. But really this company seems a bit more modest than that. They might just be a new search.
