The Odds of GTA IV On PC

We all want to know ” Will Grand Theft Auto IV come to the computer?”

Let’s look at the odds by looking at the past games that have come out.

Grand Theft Auto and GTA2 came out on PC before they came out on console. GTAIII changed the pattern with it’s release for the Sony Playstation. Grand Theft Auto 3 and the Rockstar and take two families allowed the console gamers to get first crack at the world of Liberty City. The game makers just dropped them into a world of free roam with nothing but their thumbs mashing the controls, doing things that people used to do with all ten fingers. Right away, issues became noticed. The problems where stuff like the A.I. would lose control or just get stuck on simple obstacles they could have just walked around. Users also noticed what is called “pop-ins.” A ‘pop-in’ is when you are moving through this world, then suddenly a bush or a bridge just appears from nowhere, “bam, now it’s just right there” and it was not there a second ago. So Rockstar games amazed everyone with the announcement of GTAIII for the PC. The PC version had a better draw distance and I.A. was tweaked. The question is, did they make a PC version just to shut people up and make more sells?

Grand Theft Auto Vice city came out for the PS2 before it came out for the computer game players. There wasn’t any announcement of a PC version until two months before it’s release. Again, the game was tweaked and looked better on the PC. In my opinion, Vice City was a duller game than GTAIII since Rockstar stripped so much out of the GTAIII engine that it removed most of the ambiance. The items removed where all atmosphere and did bog down consoles and video cards. Nowadays, computers and consoles are finally strong enough to handle that much stress. Again, I ask “Did they make the PC version just to sell more of the same game, even to repeated customers?”

San Andreas, they never even told us it would come out for the computer. While working on San Andreas to be released for the computer (nearly a year after the console version), Rockstar games was also working on Liberty City Stories.

Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories where first announced to be created exclusively for a portable gaming console called “playstation portable,” aka PSP. Six months after both were released, news was announced both would be released for the Playstation2. Neither one have yet to be released for the PC.

So far, there is no announcement of a Grand Theft Auto IV coming out for the personal computer. This next game is now set back to be released on April 29th of this year. If things would have been on schedule (agreements with console makers, etc.), the once again revisit to Liberty City would have been on time, and we would have already heard the news about a computer version. Since the console version was delayed, could it be that the PC version’s news was also delayed, or pushed to be released one year from the original release date of the console version?

Since we have not received a PC version of Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, nor any news of GTAIV on anything but Xbox360 and Playstation3, I can only expect that Rockstar games would much rather put the “Stories” games and San Andreas out for the Wii console. Long before we will ever see a PC version of any, especially the newest.

  1. i myself am a first person shooter kind of guy. and for the longest time i have stuck to my prefernce that third person games are strictly for console (fps naturally for pc) but the gta series is an exception with its many capabilities with internet connectivity for an experience that only a pc with an internet connection can bring.

  2. I think there WILL be a PC version. Why? because it’ll put more money in R* pockets… that’s why.

  3. You don’t think sony and microsoft give a kick back each time gta comes out and their sales increase?

Why would they creat a pc version?.. that will just cracked and modded till rockstar gets sued yet again.

Do you have any idea how many are ready to mod it already?
But no one is willing to convert the xbox or sony versions to work on a pc.

In the pc world, ANYTHING can be modded

The last time Rockstar games created a pc version of Grand Theft auto
    They got sued.
There have been two more games come and go that did not get the pc port.

IT’S OVER. THERE WILL BE NO PC VERSION!

  4. I think there will be a PC version here is why…

    – GTA Started out on PC
    – They DO make money off it. They create the game on PC’s so it is not too difficult to do.
    – The previous versions came on pc
    – They now sell GTA:VS/GTA:SA on Steam.. and they sell very well.
    – On many large gaming sites like 1UP.. San andreas for PC is the current most popular viewed title. (yes this is due to GTA4 coming out soon)

I do not think modding should scare them off… The hot coffee mod was created because the developers left it in the codebase.. They were able to simply change a few values and “un-lock” this bit of the game. The very same thing could be done on a console where modders/hackers can edit the source of the game.. The very same thing is being done on Wii atm with games like man-hunt to unlock more gore or make othe rgames region free. I belive many people, the very same millions who play WoW and other PC games will be more than happy to purchase GTA4 on PC, Expecially a Steam release. I know I would.

  5. err they got sued because they had hidden away a part of the game and a modder/hacker/whatever found it and made it open. that part was originally in but hidden to make it MA not AO, correct? SO if they don’t hide anything they wont get sued.

    pwned

  6. No way will there be a GTA IV for the PC. Economically, it doesn’t make sense. Piracy killed sales of COD4 for the PC and would doubtless have the same effect on GTA IV. Why waste all that time and effort just to have your game ripped off?

  7. It better.. If not me and Rockstar is gonna have words.

Btw, on an unrelated note, anyone see that the actor playing Niko was bitching cause he only made $100,000 for his work..

Thats so lame, dude, you signed a contract, you agreed to be paid that much..

    End of story.

If I get a job anywhere, I can’t throw a shit fit and get more money than what they originally offered me, regardless.

I heard talks of another strike because of it, which is lame, because between me and you, I couldn’t stand his acting, it was sub-par I think, I will have to play the game all the way through to be certain, but from everything I have seen, he kind of sucks..

I thought the dude who played CJ was a much better actor than him, I loved CJ he was a pimp.. :)

    Well, whatever..

    Peace

  8. A few things.

For both Vice City and San Andreas they announced the PC version just a few months before the release or about 6 months after the console release, so just because we haven’t heard doesn’t mean anything.

Second, why would they release the Stories GTA games on PC? Have you ever seen a gameboy or PSP game go to PC? That’s ridiculous. So also that doesn’t mean anything.

Even though they both are morphed ports from pc and console. and both have been put on console (ps2)

  9. Why the hell are we speculating things and hoping for a PC release. There are a lot of good games for PC Gamers from last year as well as this year. COD4, BIOSHOCK, CRYSIS, ASSASSINS CREED to name a few. Even if ROCK* do not release the game on PC this year, PC gamers have alot of good games coming their way. MAFIA 2 would be releasing for PC along with consoles on Oct, 31 2008 which is going to be an even better game than GTA 4. I feel sorry for all of you who were sucked into buying PS3 or XBOX 360 just for a game.

Here is some more BIG NEWS. Along with Mafia 2 there is another successfull title making its way to all PC Gamers. Ang this one is gonna Rock cause it’s ………………….SAINTS ROW 2(Release date 14th Oct,2008)…………Your chance to play a Gangsta all over again…………….Mafia 2 and Saints Row 2 will surely make people forget about GTA 4 for a longtime. So even ifff Rockstar decides to release their GTA 4 this November they would have to face stifff competition.
