Curved Screen Televisions

curvedtvLet’s be rational about these Curved Screen Televisions.
We just changed the fricken aspect ratio. To go from large in the center to stretched to the side. Now people want to make the center skinnier and the outer corners wider.

One of the issues with CRT televisions, is that your display measures within the curve of the glass too. If you break the glass out of a 50 inch CRT television you get less than 47 inches of actual viewable area. and well from the looks of, you will have to measure the curve of these too.

Look, the 3D Televisions flopped (except of course for the few hundred people who invest tons of money on a t.v. and have to upkeep with the glasses instead of face denial) you’re pretty much going to be the same dude.

They will not change the format that all of the stations broadcast. They can not. So the weird distortion you will notice in the images, will be there for greater than the life of the t.v. you will be buying. You do remember back when television stations would broadcast and you just had to deal with the fact that the center section of the screen on your “wide screen t.v.” was squashed. This lasted for a good five years. Now all of the television stations are broadcasting in a flat, even thickness signal. Well you are about to see little fat people in weird wide rooms, forever. Once you notice it, you can’t un-notice it.

Can you imagine how this will look on your wall? Or how often it will get bumped into?
You’ll have to put the tv in the corner of the room again.

Mobile Device Internet

We find ourselves laying in bed late at night on our mobile devices, our cell phones our whatever pads, squinting at our tiny screens telling ourselves this is okay.
I have to say. This is not okay. Do you have any idea what we are doing to our eyes? Have you noticed that more and more people are having migraines lately?
I notice. I notice that my eyesight is getting worse and worse. If I don’t use my cell phone to surf the web for a short while, my eyes feel better.
Meanwhile the websites look junkier and simpler like it’s 1996 all over again. Text with a white background. Built simple so the mobile versions of good websites, load faster on your cell phone or android pad or iphone or ipad. Yet we are paying ungodly amounts for this “fast mobile internet”.

What do we do with this convenient service and device? We check our email, and we check our facebook status. That’s it.
What’s on your facebook page? a bunch of motivational picture that everyone is sharing and saying “Oh, that’s so me”.

There just doesn’t seem to be enough value in this.

Sceptre 32 inch TV Review

I have the 32″ screen sceptre television. 720p resolution. Presets for picture temperature are either very dark or very white washed or low color. After a bit of manual adjustments, the picture is near flawless.
3 hdmi connections on the back, 1 usb connection. All of the typical rca jacks.
Usb connection is for usb storage drives. Sorry only mp3 and photos. Wont play video.
Screen sizes are normal, zoom, stretch and cinema. Cinema is zoomed way in. Most of the image does not fit in screen are. Its like being zoomed in on 1/4 of the video.
Zoomed mode, zooms in too far also, just not as bad as cinema. Stretched, basically stretches the images to fit the width of screen area. Leaves black bars and middle of viewable area distorted from stretching. Though the manual says the outer edges will be stretched looking.

but. When you have the image set at the default original setting where you have black bares on left, right, top and bottom, your video will be at the highest resolution that your tv can display . So if image quality is your goal…..

bottom left button on the remote is one of the first buttons you should push. hit that three times if you want out of the dark, energy efficient mode. top right button, hit that twice. These are the defaults that I found most bearable with the lighting in my house. I still made manual changes.

The audio through the built in speakers, far above and beyond what I expected. This beats the LG tv I have for comparison. (specs to come in other posts).
External speaker sound, again above what I expected. This is while selecting between 2.1 surround, and 5.1 surround sound.

Overall weight of the sceptre 32 inch tv, a lot lighter than my 19 inch lg monitor and slightly less weight than my 32 inch lg television. Weighs less than 5 lbs. Or at least feels that way to me.
Assembly of the factory stand, very simple. Wall mount is 200mm/200mm and again very simple. For this, there is an extra backing piece you find in the box. I saw mine and was certain the manufacturer goofed and gave me an extra back for a some remote that didn’t get packaged. No worries, this backing is for the lower section to cover the hole when you removed the stand. I chose not to use the wall mount, Since I am in a new house and I really do not want holes in my wall. I may want to relocate that television some day, and would be stuck with holes. So um…. no thanks.
Use of local tv through antenna (had to purchase one) images are amazing. Now that is true high def at it’s finest, if this is an option for you, I recommend it. Highly recommend it. Full screen at default settings with high crisp images.
Signal through local cable, not using the cable box, well there are hundreds upon hundreds of channels that can be received. The Hd channels are of no quality comparison to local broadcast.
Pretty much the same if you use the cable box, you just have to find channel 3 and let the cable box do all of the work for you.

Update 12/28/2011

Lately I have noticed a weird noise when the  tv warms up. and then again when it cools off. Sounds like the plastic is snapping.

Update12/5/2012
But still. Bang for buck, this is a great T.V. . One year later and this t.v. is working like it was brand new. Speakers are good with no buzzing, no dead pixels, no off coloring. The t.v. is in great condition.
Menu is a bit slow. Especially selection reception resolution. That’s a tad frustrating. I haven’t found anything about upscaling so. I am not sure it does this. The popping I posted about earlier, seems to have stopped for a good while now. wasn’t a loud pop, more like a surprising crackle.

Cell Phone Wars – Poll

Curiosity is setting in at the TruXterTech camp. as to what Cell phone operating system do you feel gives you the most abilities that you like.
Rim- Research in Motion from Blackberry
Apple – Iphone
Android- Android/Google
ISA – Nokia OS
Windows- Microsoft
[poll id=”2″]
This isn’t a poll of phone manufacturers, it’s more of a poll of phone operating systems. If you could use any operating system on your phone, what operating system would you prefer?
If your cell phone/ Smart phone could run any cellphone operating system, what would be your end choice in phone software?

Spy stuff Online

Since we were kids we all had fascinations about spy stuff. We all wanted to find the clues and catch the crook with special secrete hidden devices that observe the criminals. We all wanted to perform surveillance and undercover detective work. Okay maybe that was just my batch of friends. We also wanted to be ninjas so .. lol.

Well I found a site that has some of the coolest equipment for doing such things. They have cameras hidden in Lighters and pens listening devices and all sorts of stuff. This place is actually quite cool. If anything you can look at the site and browse their goodies. It’s cool stuff I tell  you

One Month Review of G1 HTC Android.

Well I have had my G1 for one month.

On day one, it crashed about 3 times.

On day two it got an update to something, no clue it happened so fast and I had no idea how to work anything on it, that I may never know. After the update I had crashes the whole day . Finally found the applications and what ones I could install.

I have to have all background processes turned off, otherwise it is super dead slow. Barcode scanners all seem to be just advertisement for national companies. Mostly target and  some drug store. Read More about the Android Barcode scanner here.

While searching the apps online, every single app has some clown saying ” app froze would not run had to uninstall found better one” then they say the name of  the supposed better one. I have come to the conclusion they are smearing  and trying to promote their own app..  If it freezes, turn background processes back on.. you will move slow, but yeah, it will work.

Storage,
I hate the limitations of this cell phone. I have an 8 gig memory card in the machine, but it seems to only install new apps to the phone, not the memory card. That bugs the hell out of me, because default storage for the phone is like one song. There is no way to change that.

The phone has been out for just over a year, yet they already have the G2 on it’s way to the shelves? if not already released???? why? they knew it sucked?

Screen area is huge and the resolution is remarkable. The camera takes an amazing picture, audio is pretty good through good head set, if you have the right adapter. Internet is super fast if you use the wifi settings and have a fast connection at your house (lol). I have actually seen over 2 megs a second, considering I have a 20meg a second connection, it is possible. Pandora Radio and ars radio are the best features. Other than running around in your skivvies playing with the light-saber app.

yesterday I pulled out one of my old Motorola phones, slapped my sim card in it, and bam, I get a bunch of text messages.. Has that freaking phone been missing my texts? Is that why she dumped me ? is that why i lost that bid for the job? what in the heck ???

Not happy, selling pretty soon.

I will be going back to my Blackberry 8100, just hope I can get used to the double tap simi qwerty keyboard.

WooHoo, My G1 Arrived

Logged into my ups account and checked tracking. They left the dang thing on the front porch. A $400 phone left on the porch. Really?

Oh well had family at home to bring it in for me. So I called.

Good thing, after the scare I had last night with my Blackberry 8100 (lol just look at last night’s post.) I have two phones in my pocket. Only one has the sim card, the other is ready and waiting for just in case the BB8100  craps out on me.

I have no idea what to expect of the phone.

Blackberry 8100 Late Review

I myself do not have the funds to be an early adapter. I find this convenient because by the time I purchase the cool stuff, it is already on the second edition, all of the bugs are worked out, and tons of people have tweaked and modded it to make so much more use of said products.

So here we are on my fifth month using a Blackberry 8100.

Moving up from my Motorolla Rizr to the bb was a huge step up. I didn’t actually need to install  opera mini on it but i did it anyway. Everyone had millions of applications to use on the device. Applications that where out from “mod my moto” that actually worked 100 times better on the blackberry version. Opera mini actually worked better on the blackberry, but I got a better advantage from the moto though.. moto browser just sucked bad.

I had issues with the firmware though. As I tried to install themes, my Blackberry started crashing a whole lot. I mean I was getting lock ups all the time already, but  it got really bad when I downloaded themes and activated them. so I hobbled over to the Forums at blackberryforums.com and found a thread about upgrading blackberry firmware . Great thread . Leads you to the actual firmware . See it seems the firmware we have in the united states that is on the blackberry website, or in the u.s. is like version 1.? (that is one point something or other). The version on the Asian server is like version 4.0 something or other. It’s crazy how it works. It actually took me off what the heck ever network I was on and put me on the edge network. oh just for a heads up. the people at Tmobile informed me that if you see a lowercase “edge” in the signal area, you have a crappier signal than if you see it all caps.

I got locked out of my blackberry after a theme install

Techy Tools use that to sync up with your Blackberry.

Ok while I am writing this. I kind of had to throw out some links I thought you may want while I goof around and try the newest version of the firmware. So.. there’s the links. Right now while I am typing this, I am 5 minutes into the upgrade

screenshot of the actual install

screenshot of the actual install

and crossing my toes and keeping the page on “previous versions” hot in my clipboard and the page open. in case it all goes wacky on me. Also I might look around and see if people have a specific choice of versions. maybe I will see why and try them all. I have just hours before my g1 shows up in the mail, I will use that one for a week or so and then sell it on ebay or what ever at barely used price. I will check it out just to review, but I really love my blackberry and all of  the tweaks out there for it. from browser to notepad.

Er crap.

Just got a bad error saying that some junk had to be saved as a back up and I should reload and restore.  i think my cat jumped on it and wiggled it loose before the install was complete. Ok freak out time. 1 am and I have to work tomorrow.  So now I am doing it all again, but not selecting the “back up” feature. I already have a back up of everything still in good. I don’t want it to back up the crap version, over the full version.

Ok crap just got the notice again.. This time I copied so i could paste it here for everyone to see.

A fatal error has occurred while updating your device’s software. Please try again.

Device communications error encountered. [A:0x00000025]

Yeah this isn’t good. so.. I go off and try and fix this.. meanwhile I se a black screen and blinking LED.

Erm.. Uh oh.. Now the program does not detect anything on the end of the usb cable..  did I mention the “uh oh” part?

Battery pull time… lol the action of a desperate  man.

Dang… Blinking light… now I run back to the forums!!!!!

Ok that was scary. computer wouldn’t identify the usb device (my fricken phone) so none of the software would work.. I left the  update program open at first page disconnected the phone, yanked out the battery and waited a second or so, plugged back in and bam… windows identified it. I am updating now :-)

Erm

Error 507 a circle a square a triangle with a circle around them all and line through the circle..  so I disconnect reconnect and rerun program

Newp No good.

Life saving post here wipe it and reinstall cross fingers and hope for the best
