The Truth about What You Share on Facebook – but wait till you see what happens next

There is a current gullibility in Facebook that is an old media tactic to get readers and viewers. Usually this tactic delivers an uneventful outcome and often is someone who embeds a video from YouTube into their page where they just talk about what is in the video. Instead of just linking you to the video it’s self. Instead they are trying to get their page shared to share the content of the YouTube video so the website owner can cash in on the hard work of the video maker.

Some people with good videos on YouTube, have advertisements in their video so they can be credit for their work in a manor that does not harm the viewers nor does it cost the viewers anything except a few seconds of their time as the advertisements load.

What you can do as a respecting person, is click the title of the video at the top left and that will take you to the YouTube page. share and like that. This gives more credit to the person who actually made the video. Not the leeches.

Let’s be honest, you really have no idea if the site with the video embedded in it, is trustworthy or not.

To many unfair people out there.
Only the internet should determine what is distasteful and disrespectful. So now that power is in your hands.

and yes I titled this like they do “wait till you see what’s inside”.

How to Handle the facebook Sunglasses Spammers

We have all seen these Lower than life fake RayBan fake Oakley sunglasses spammers on Facebook that are tagging people in pictures they post. and we just scroll past them but deep down wish it would stop.
If you were unsure, I will help you.Those sunglasses posts. They are spam and they are not legit. I wouldn’t buy anything from either of those pages, nor would I trust them, if you don’t get your bank account wiped out from trying to purchase from them, you will get crummy illegal knockoffs that will get you laughed at by someone who knows better.

Let’s not be defeatists. This can be resolved and it may prevent people from trying new ways to spam.

This is how you can help make these go away. By reporting the spammers on Facebook.

Put your mouse over the name of the account that is tagging your friend, and right click and select “open in new tab”.
Now navigate back to your timeline by clicking on the original tab.
Now go back to the tagged image.
Where you see the post, you will see in the top right corner of that post, a small arrow pointing down. Click that arrow. Then click the “hide all from Oakley Online” or the RayBan account or all of the other sunglasses spammers.

There’s a tad bit more to do here
but don’t freak out when it vanishes
Don’t change pages and don’t hit refresh, you have to look close. Look for what you see in the next image.

This will make the tagged post disappear from your current view

You will see what looks like that picture there in the place of the spammy picture. You will notice a message in there that says:
“You will no longer see posts from Oakley Online in News Feed Undo
Why don’t you want to see this?”
and the bottom sentence will be a clickable link.
Click that link and you will get a pop-up

There is a multiple choice that pops up in a small window. Select the bottom choice. “it’s Spam” and click continue.(or yours may say “this is a fake account’ please select either one that is available.) You will be noticed that you will never see it again. but trust that you will.

Now go back to that other tab you opened.
Get ready to throw the final blow.
You must mark them as spam

This should be the Spammer’s account. Look to the far right hand side of their timeline. There will be a gear. click that gear a and a drop down menu will appear. Select “report Page”. Do this. Report the page. You will then get one more tiny multiple question pop up.
Look somewhere near the middle.
Where you will find it “Report Page”.
Click that.
You will be taken to another prompt.
Which says “Why are you reporting this page”.
You have to do this last step or this was all for nothing
Simple clicks and done.

Select “it’s Spam or a scam”.

and click “continue”

That’s it, you are done. You have done all you can.

Bookmark/add to favorites this page because the person has a few accounts and you will see them all. If you can, put this page’s link in the comments section of those posts.
Either Facebook will take notice and finally do something, or your friends will at least have a fighting chance at beating this spam.

Facebook Picture Tagging Issue

Facebook, the website that allows you to upload pictures, and videos. The website that allows you to connect with friends. This place has additional functions such as marking the location you are and tagging friends that are with you when you post. There is also the ability to tag a photo of someone.
You can tag as many people as you feel like tagging in one location or one picture or in a picture that also has their location stated with a check-in.

The Problem
The issue with pictures being tagged with unsuspecting people in them, is it’s never a picture the victims like. EXAMPLES: Facebook Etiquette
facebook picture tagging is bad and it is a horrible change in our culture where someone else can give up your privacy. Any respecting person would not upload anyone’s picture to the internet without their permission. It does not matter if the person/victim already uploaded that same picture to their own profile. It is no one’s right to take that picture and then upload it to the internet where it will sit until the person who uploaded the picture decides to take the picture down. Some of us if we upload a picture of ourselves, we should have full rights to delete said picture if some day we notice something we do not like about that picture. No one should have that over anyone on the internet.
Far too much bullying can go on with a picture of someone going live on the internet, and everyone seeing that picture until the victim logs in and goes through the rigorous steps to have that photo removed.
Misleading pictures can be uploaded and cause divorces.
Parents disowning.
Showing a stalker where someone is.
Showing a bully where someone is.
Giving a bully a picture to work with while harassing the victim

The fix
The fix for most of the issues, is if someone tags you in a photo, that photo should not be allowed to go live until you accept it.
Basically, the photo just won’t be seen by anyone but the person who uploaded it, and the people that are tagged in the photo. Many may allow it and accept the tag, but it still will not be seen by the victim’s friends and family, until the victim allows it.
This would stop the tag spam too.

**Please find the friend that you saw sharing the link to the Kroger Gift Card scam, and post a link to this page for them to read and to share to the person they saw it on.** If you google “way back machine” you will find the internet archive that has a back up of what this page used to tell you. I myself will no longer pay the bandwidth it takes to help facebook.
Facebook post says “Receive a Free $250 Gift Voucher” and has a Kroger logo. Looks legit right?
It is fake.

If you clicked it, log into Facebook and change your password now. You have just been bitten by a scam. This scam is not the doing of Kroger. You have no reason to be mad at Kroger for someone else’s hoax.
Here is Kroger trying to get a handle on the situation.

To prove this Kroger notice is a hoax, just hit refresh when you are on that page and watch the “remaining vouchers” counter start back over at 173.
Another thing to notice is the “comments” on that page on the left hand side “hansja” his comment says it happened 26 minutes ago.. and that comment stays with that count.
Most this is an advertising company that has crummy tactics and it is likely they are just getting their like and share counts up really high so that when the website changes it’s home page design and logo, it will look like a legit website, and will show in your friend feed to your friends as a page you like. Which in turn will scam your friends by this 100% hoax.

They Broke Facebook

As of now, the “most recent posts” option is completely meaningless.

You see posts from 5 days ago and nothing of the new recent posts.

Where are my recent posts?
Everything works fine on mobile app. and it works fine in Opera mini .
but boot your computer up and try and get some fresh stuff on Facebook?

Nope.

maybe I will click on the “popular” option and just deal with it.

Mashable Trust Issue

The Mashable Trust Issue.
So I lit up the pho ne and kicked back in bed and started surfing around in Facebook. Scrolled down the page to see all of the stuff I have been missing, and what do I see?
I see that Mashable and I shared a topic, 23 minutes ago. Wait.. 23 minutes ago I was cleaning the litterbox and sweeping the floor. Hadn’t been on Facebook for hours.
So I scroll a little further to see what the topic was and was shocked.
It’s content I don’t like to get involved in. Not against anyone’s rights or freedoms. in fact I am for everyone’s rights and freedoms to be the same. This was specifically about gay rights. I never read the article. why would I agree with the article and share it if I haven’t read it? The article could totally messed up and bring up views that I don’t even know that I am for or against until I read the way it is presented.
What this does is send a false impression to my friends. and anyone else who got used like this. If I am not the only one that used like this to push this agenda, then there is a huge mass of people who just got used to press this impression that lots of people agree with the content. Without their direct consent on the content.
This content needs to be supported by people who agree with it, not falsely promoted.

This is gaming votes and manipulating the views of the public.

SO I went off on Mashable on their page.

Imagine the potential of this type of move. If Mashable can post this propaganda, what can a politician do? what can some agenda based media source do to make it look like you agree with something you haven’t even read yet. It’s like they are sneakishly using you for peer pressure upon your friends. Though the movement was for a good cause to some, it was a bad ethics move.
How to stop this.. Start with unliking the page of the offender. in the case, it’s Mashable.

Go to App Settings
Locate Offender in the list. In this case, Mashable.
Click the X on the right hand side, and never go back to their webpage again.

If you have to go to their page but don’t want them to “post on your behalf” find that in the options under their name and disable it. Then locate “Visibility of app and posts:” and select “Only me”
now your freinds won’t get spammed with junk you allowed to have access to your Facebook.

I will never trust a single article from Mashable ever again.

Facebook Hashtags

If you haven’t noticed yet. Facebook finally launched their hashtag experiment

What is the function of hashtags in Facebook?
Well. Pretty much the same as on twitter. You make a post, and then put a hashtag next to the word that best describes the #post. This allows people to share content and have it in a specific category for everyone else in the world.

Really this is the very first time I ever saw Facebook actually be a SOCIAL network. because now, you can find people who talk about like minded content.

Where this becomes an issue
People will exploit the hashtags. just as they have done in the past when they hack an account, the hackers will soon start making posts with links and a million and one hashtags in the post covering zillions of topics. Reaching more and more people. Along with tagging friends in the friends list of each victim that falls for the scam. Further reaching more and more people.

Latest Facebook Vanity Hack is mean

yep. another hack that has people wondering who looks at their Facebook page, fighting for their account.
The message displayed is “I just found out Who Has Been Checking Out My Profile” and then below is a picture that has the word (cut off a bit to entice your to click it) “KNOW WHO HAS BEEN STALKING YOUR PROFILE” and of course a link to any number of different versions of the app now created on Facebook..
Latest hack to Facebook accounts creates a personal page from your account with random alpha-numeric symbols, plus adds it’s self to your apps and creates a new app under developer section.

You must unlike that page (look here) and you must remove access to your account from that app (start here), and then delete the app from your app developer’s section,now change apps password (here), then change your password to your account(here).

Now would be a good time to scan your computer for a virus.Try this virus scanner. Or any virus scanner on this page

From the top of your Page, click Edit Page
Select Update Info
Select Apps from the left sidebar
Click Edit Settings beneath the app you want to remove
Click Remove
that’s the fix
it deleted the page

I must warn you though, as she was typing this, the hack was still steadily posting.

Click Remove — this is what you have to do to delete the page and app that was installed. THEN, you or someone else has to report the activity. Then you have to go through security measures to verify your account. Change your FB password, change the password(s) you have associated with any emails for FB and cross your fingers, toes, put your shirt on backwards, take one shoe off, etc.

And please, stop clicking those vanity links. They never work.

New Version Same old thing Facebook Black Scam

So. We all survived the tagging of friends and adding a link below that links to a site that steals your Facebook account password and makes a new post, with your account, tagging all of your friends. Sad thing is, you never know your account is compromised because all of your friends assume you know.
Well the latest one has respelled it’s self. instead of saying FACEBOOK BLACK, it now misspells Facebook and says Faecbook Black.

What the scammer is doing is getting your password and then seeing how many followers you have. at the same time, it spams out a picture that looks worthy of investigation and a link below it with very little information. This causes your friends who are now tagged in the image to say “what the heck is this, it must be good, my friend tagged me in it”. When the scammer finds an account with lots of followers, they will change the password to the account, and then post lots of spam . In the meantime all of the people who have clicked on the link, their profile is now clicking like on all of the scammer’s stolen profiles. The scammer then sells the account to the highest bidder saying “We can get you 5000 likes on Facebook”

So if you click any of those scam links, change your password quick. Post this link on that post (to warn others), Untag yourself from the image because all of your friends are now seeing that image. Go back to the friend’s account that tagged you in the image and message them to change their password and untag everyone from the image and then delete it.

Facebook Contests are PR Scams

These contests never have real life winners unless it’s junk that advertises their regular products. Shirts, hats, sweatbands.
These contests are created to get people to like their page, subscribe to their content and to harvest email addresses for news letters and later to be sold to spammers to fill your email box with junkmail.

This is the lowest form of spam. It’s an old form of spam also. Just with a social media twist.

It looks like a lot of these are put together by the same Pr group hired to “increase social media activity”.
Kind of like the search engine optimization companies who call you about increasing traffic to your website and making it easier to find in search engines… Um… how did they find your website to call you?

Well these winners do not exist. They are just members of the Social traffic companies hired to increase traffic to a company’s twitter and Facebook.

It’s time to move on from Facebook.
