– EFLC now has it’s own settings file called “SETTINGS_EFLC.CFG” to avoid possible conflicts with GTA IV installations
From What I see, There is nothing lost on my end. The game plays very good. The shadows still look good like they did in patch six. The trees look quite well also. Game play was very smooth. Some of it felt a tad too smooth. But i am not complaining about that. it’s just i am used to certain things lagging a whole lot . When it doesn’t I kind of over steer.
one tiny error during install.
Install Error
This error is nothing. It just confused windows lol. Everything was fine.
Patch seven, very good. I didn’t even have to update drivers this time. But still waiting on latest Nvidia and ATi drivers to be released.
GTA IV PATCH 7 / EFLC PATCH 2 Gets
9/10 from me.
I would say full ten but there is a tree issue I see from time to time.
On my original install I had the game running using live to download and install the game.
During the install I got an error
but after I closed the error window, I saw that the install was still going on.
Well later I uninstalled the game and then just installed patch 1.0.4.0. (alternatively you can do this Roll back patch without uninstall )
Played for a while.
found a link in GTAForums.COM linking to the XBOX website that allows you direct download of the 1.0.6.0 patch.
download.xbox.com/content/5454083b/tu10000083_10000b83.cab?n=F1F2863FCD63C802
Use winrar.
and I tried it wondering if there would be any issues that it would resolve by getting it this way… I have no idea what I was thinking.
but.
In actuality something good did happen. I got the full install without an error. why? because the game was not running (I guess). No errors in the install.
so now I try the game and see a marginal increase in frame rates. but now I want to see more. Call me greedy.
I go to video settings for video card (nvidia control panel, ati has it under 3d setting [sorry work pc but sure they are similar throughout])
Nvidia Control Panel
anistrop ati settings
and I go to the 3d settings and manually select GTAIV and turn off Anisotropic filtering.
LaunchGTAIV.exe
CODE
“C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\LaunchGTAIV.exe” -availablevidmem=.8
run the game from the Launch
Go to the Video settings and select “automatic”
Then go to aspect ratio and pick the size that fits.
turn texture filter to tri-linear
Setting for gtaiv defaultish
Now don’t change anything. Just save at this point and give it a try.
I would assume it will not work as well for others but it should for some
and should show a nice change for many.
The shadows look wonderful.
It will not stop the ped cars from dropping, but who cares. right? Just get the game flowing better.
It looks better than it did before the patch and plays about as good as patch 1.0.4.0 maybe a lil shakier.
I have no desire to crank the settings hire, heck it looks better already.
The only risk free way to install the patch is to boot up the game. Anything else and you risk a virus from some jerk who may have manipulated the file. My machine locked up while trying the install. I had to CTRL ALT DLT to crash the game so I could look on Rockstar’s website. There was no physical download, just a bunch of information about the patch. Well pretty much the same stuff you see below.
One of the members of Rockstar Torronto has come to the GTAFORUMS and posted us plenty of information of what the patch gives us.
GTA IV Title Update 1.0.6.0 \ 1.0.5.1 \ 1.0.4.2 (Patch 6) Rockstar Games Social Club

As you see here the moon is back and looking great.
There are some great features with the new patch. Video settings .
New video settings
With the new patch they remove the mandatory Social club sign in.
Social Club is stripped out
with the removal of social club, there was a removal of shortcuts from the desktop. I seemed to have gotten an error.
but it was meaningless I think.
Error during the update GTAIV
BYE Bye Social Club
We get a new splash screen after the install. The new splash screen shows Episodes From Liberty City.
New GTAIV SPlash Screen
I try to load the Episodes and see if I can buy it, but i think I was a day early. So i got a connection error.
Live not connecting Episodes
I will try again later after the sales level out.
They added market place as an option during boot of game.. Cool. I of course will be buying the cd copy.
Market place button for gtaiv pc
I have noticed a 7 degrees F difference when the Game link is blinking at the top of the screen, and a seven degree drop when i finally click the dang thing and get windows live opened. When I exit back out, instant temperature drop and frame rate increase.
After driving around and tweaking the heck out of my video settings, Air cleaning my heatsinks, replacing fans, cleaning up my start up processes, I started playing the game with a desire to explore. I stumbled into something kind of not good.
Yep Tree shadows are flickering.
So I moved to the Video settings to check what I had the settings at. you tell me what you think.
I seem to be bogging down really bad. I just recently did a motherboard upgrade so I can actually run dual channel Memory. That upgrade I did to my machine did magic for me. I jumped from 22fps up to 45 frames per second. That is a huge jump. I could then change my settings to near max for my video memory, but this patch killed that. I am back down, way down. with the video settings as smooth as i can get it, 17 fps .
I am not one to bash Rockstar and I appreciate all of the work they are doing. So I will not bash. I will instead ask you for your tech support.
Dual 9500 gt 512mb (sli on or off it does this)
AMD 5600+ dual core
2 gigs pc6400
XFX 750 A mobo black edition
Well I could not get the game to work anymore. The game crawled to about 10-15 FPS after that patch. So I completely uninstalled teh game and reinstalled. Dropped back to 1.0.4.0 Patch (aka patch 5). Turned off Anisotropic filtering in video card settings. Also turned off Anti-aliasing. Both were set to run by application control. So for gta in the 3d settings, I turned it off. Getting an average of 45 Frames per second.
Now if you want to try and roll youyr current install back to that, you have to reinstall rgsc.
I can’t walk you through how to save your settings, I didn’t take that step. I went with a full fresh install.
It seems like it would be easy. Good luck. Report back on how you did it.
****update 2****
There currently is no updated no cd crack yet for 1.0.6.0
I would like to put my game disk back in the case and keep it from getting scratched.
***update 3***
Ok, I found my answer.
I posted about about an error I got while installing.
but as I closed the error window I saw the install was still going fine.
I got my patch through live.
So this patch I just installed
is the exact same one.
Difference is, this time I did not have gtaiv running during the install.
And this time
The frame rates are a buttload better..
but I do have to say 1.0.4.0 plays much much smoother.
I still want to see if marketplace can be killed with xliveless and see if that speeds things up.
Game looks like it will be fun. I am ready for this. I just hope it has a few patches bundled. or is a newer modified version of gtaiv engine to run smoother. I have pure faith in Rockstar that it will all be fixed, and ready for game play. Just have to keep the trolls out of the gtaforums.com site and just let it be fun. Just wish they would give a list of specs of machines tested smooth. would give us a good idea of what parts to work with. :-)
Johnny squaring off against the LCPD in Chinatown.
Luis working security at Maisonette 9.
Johnny escapes from the scene on his customized heavy-duty chopper.
Luis hanging out in Yusuf Amir’s Algonquin penthouse.
Despite the FPS listed in the results, I really felt a smoother game play, even with the settings set higher.
I did exit and run GPU-Z and found 52 degrees Celsius. a bit high. I mean all game play signs were smooth and even flowing
but after exiting, for the first time on this pc, it took longer than 2 seconds to open my start menu. So I think I may have been
running a bit hot. I will work on better cooling.
I also saw that the drivers defaulted my machine to run gtaiv in SLI mode. since SLI is not supported on this game, I just flashed red
Felt like a seizure. I had to go through a few settings to turn that off
For anyone With a budget card wanting to GTAIV. It is very much worth it to try these drivers.

Finally Nvidia’s Drivers have caught up with Windows 7. These probably will not make it to the final release version. These are leaked and tweaked by the gur3d community. but if you are on a budget video card and just want to play the game on medium settings, do this, these are great drivers.
I do warn that I did not creat these drivers and am not in any accountable for the outcome or effect or results of what these drivers might do to your machine. So don’t thank me and don’t scream at me for what ever happens. Not all video card vendors are the same, not all video card vendors have the exact same configuration. Not all computer combonations are the same. For my machine, these are exactly what i need to play grand theft auto IV.
Grand Theft Auto IV, has had a rocky run since the start. Many of us had a smooth install and smooth gameplay from the getgo. But many people had issue that almost seemed to be unresolved. The forums at gtaforums.com practically flipped upside down. Many of the issues turned out to be someone poorly overclocking a computer and then putting the first real bit of stress on it, since the overclocking. Many had the issue of over heating, or not enough memory, wrong service pack or poor drivers.
Well Rockstar Torronto Spent a great deal of time weeding through the posts on gtaforums.com checking and double checking for computer stats, and hardware configurations to see who all had what so they could re-test their build of the game and produce a patch.
After five tests, they have it .. For more information go here.
The online patch now allows us to ban people who join games we serve.. Actually made to kick out jerks and cheaters.

Today April 21st, Microsoft released a new update to WINDOWS LIVE . The forums at GTAFORUMS.Com goes crazy.
Looks like Microsoft bundled some lines of code that totally trashed what few users and players of Grand Theft Auto IV, that Rockstar Games had left. The game seems to work fine in Multi- Player , but has traumatic effect on Single player mode. You can no longer tweak and adjust your game. The game stutters so bad and hangs up, that no one can get even four minutes of play time to test out said tweaks. It kind of looks intentional.
Picture this:
Rockstar games might have actually put the screws to Microsoft, for allowing cheats in thier online community, and well, looks like they might have barked up the wrong tree. Sad part is, they are contracted to them, so they can’t just drop the windows live program.
This of course is where the modders and tweakers need to come together. MTA-IV and Iv-mp need to band together and make something quick to save Rockstar in this.
Now this is pretty much speculation, but man it would be scary if it was true.
Xliveless is the way to go, but patches are hard to get and use once you do that.
If you feel that Microsoft needs to Address this, Sign below with a response.
Let our Text be read, we need to prove there are more than just a hand full of out there.
Call it a petition. Call it a group effort. I just consider it a gathering of upset customers.
We are customers of Microsoft, we are displeased.
Even if you do not agree with my opinion, let your’s be read and lets let Microsoft hear from us.
Just reply to this with your opinion on the matter. Digg it for me
After all of the tweaking I have done, I can now get cocky about playing the game. And do what most people can not do with gtaiv. Liberty City never looked so dang pretty
GTA Clans Site/
yeah, I did it with a cell phone
so. … .. Sorry about the quality. and it was hard to do with one hand!
If you have a computer and plan to play Grand Theft Auto iv on pc.
People are reading forums on how to resolve issues with their game. They are gathering information from people who do not know what they are talking about. I will help you with just a couple steps. First you have to understand that the person who claimed GTAIV pc has a memory leak, has no clue what he/she is talking about and should clearly be labeled the planets biggest idiot. All planets need an idiot.
The fix, is the same fix for all games using a new architecture/engine. Here is the fix.
Go to the website for the manufacturer of your motherboard. Download all drivers for your motherboard.
Go to the website for the manufacturer of your video card.
Now before installing the new drivers, you must uninstall all the drivers you currently have installed. I usually disabled the plug and play option in Control PanelAdministrative Toolsservices. Of course I do this on Vista because it keeps trying to install some crummy drivers when I reboot after an uninstall. You really shouldn’t need that, but if you do, you know how.
Ok after the uninstall reboot your computer, and now install your drivers one by one, rebooting after each driver installed. On the final driver install, instead of rebooting, shut down your pc. When the pc is off, unplug the power to it. Clean up all the dust in all of your heatsinks (cpu, gpu, northbridge, south etc) clean your memory sticks. Remove all dust out of your pc. Make sure your air flow is heavy through your case.
The way I do that is, at the back of the pc where you see the 80 mm fans. There is like a grill around those. Since I don’t have a 2 year old kid in my house, I snip those grills out. This drops my temperature by about 2-5 degrees C . Here’s more on the subject.
And the last thing for you. DON’T OVERCLOCK YOUR MACHINE, unless you know what you are doing.
I am a regular user at the gtaforums located at gtaforums.com. 100% of the memory leak complaints there, have been resolved with driver issues, heat issues, or the moron tried to overclock and did not want to face the fact that his computer was the issue, not the game.
In the end, this help post will get you playing Grand Theft Auto IV, that simple. The game works fine. Maintain your rig or go back to the console gaming. The cause is not overclocking it’s self, but poor overclocking could be a factor. If your machine is overclocked, set your o/c items back to default and give the game a go. If you can get the game running with your parts clocked to normal, gradually work your way back up in o/c until you reach a stable setting.
How? As if you are overclocking your video card, move each slider (depending on the tool you are using) up by 5mhz, test the game, move up 5 more, test the game and so on till you get a crash. After crash, move sliders back three. When it stables out, move forward one, if it crashes move it back one. and so on. Helpful posts
Same with bios / cmos settings with memory and cpu. Except not with sliders of course. Yes it is tedious but it resolves your issue.
Here is a lesson in how to adjust your settings for smooth video play
Note: You must have Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows XP Service Pack 3 installed PRIOR to installing and running
Grand Theft Auto IV PC.
Right-click ‘My Computer –> Properties’ to see if you have the latest Service Packs installed, and if not check Windows Update and download before trying to install the game.
To help you understand that. It means that if you installed the latest service pack for your operating system AFTER you installed GTAIV. It would be wise if you uninstall the game and delete all folders now. and reinstall the game.
Somewhere there was talk of resetting your registry but I haven’t had to study that. I will look into it if needed. Yes it sounds like a hassle, but it does tell you on the box what the required service pack would be. Fyi windows xp 64 , you have to have service pack 2, or it will tell you it’s an incompatible operating system. 64 is not listed in the req area :-(
I like very few others, Have had as little to do with seeing GTA IV missions and feature. I did this to avoid ruining the game for me.
Even though Rockstar Never told us about a pc version to come, I still had hope.
So here is a review from a non paid true Grand Theft Auto player/lover.
For starts I had an issue with the game it gave me a fatal error. . After some research found that it was just a sign in error with Rockstar game’s server. simple fix, don’t sign into Rockstar’s social club untill they fix it.
Check in every now and again. I am kind of thankful for this because I want to get to know the feel of the game, and the way it plays and how the cars handle before I jump into a mass of retards cussing and climbing all over everyone with shotgun shoot outs. Yeah I played mta a few times and sa-mp in fact gtaclans.com is my site :-). So here is my run down of first day impressions.
The controls
I was disappointed with the lack of control features, until I figured out how to double click on the configuration. Double click it you will be a bit happier. For the most I just went with their controls but still tried to make it feel like older gta games.
Camera angles kinda irritate me a bit. I can’t find where they have the setting “steer with mouse” so the camera angles will be automatic. I hope someone shows me something before I just sit and submit.
The game when controlling the car, well it feels a bit like True Crimes. I would almost swear EA had a hand in this game.
The feel
Yeah it feels like Liberty City. But a bit more angry, with a few pedestrians really making you not like ditsy people. They talk on the cell phones all the time and say the ditsiest stuff.
When you fall, you feel it in your stomach as you have with older gta games. You almost lose your breath when it’s a 30 foot drop. anything further and the shock dissipates.
The cars feel like real cars, you over steer you slide, you under steer you skid and bump the wall (in the junker cars)
Game Play and Missions
Yep it’s GTA.
The missions keep you creaking in your chair as you actually try and lean different directions as if it will Help Niko.
The bad guys are more human now. They can lose a fight and do it looking like a person scared and hurt.
So far the three or four missions I have completed, are a tad short and easy.
First mission is always finding your house.
Second mission really reminded me of the second mission in gtaiii.. You have to go drive somewhere and pick up some girl somewhere. actually it was two but only one mattered to the person who sends you. or was that a later mission. no matter it still feels familiar.
Graphics
My video card is not the latest greatest and highest, so my settings are really low, and yet I still love the way this game looks.
With everything set at the lowest setting, it still looks better than any other GTA game out there set at max.
With everything set just a notch above lowest settings, the game looks better than console versions. I have been watching videos all day. in fact they where playing the game at the Game Stop I went to as I was picking up the game. I still liked the way it looked on the XboX360 except for that stupid blur thing they do with the current gen consoles.
Pay phones, if you wreck into them, set off some pretty blue sparks. it’s amazing what happens and how it looks.
As you crank up the settings, billboards look better with clearer text, so does the graphiti and road, but my video card ran slower and slower every time I cranked it up.
I found a nice low setting and really have a beautiful looking game play.
My favorite game of the GTA games, is still GTAIII, Second would be San Andreas. but I bet if I soak in as many hours on this one as I have with all the others, it will soon shoot to first. I loved Grand Theft Auto 3 for the simple fact that it taught me how to tweak, overclockand update/upgrade my computer. Vice city did nothing for me. it was a yellow stained flop . I mean it was like Rockstar said “heh I figured out how to make it smother” so they plopped outa game. San Andreas on the other hand tugged on the resources of my computer and once again I had a mission. The game was long, large and a blast with tons of places to drive through.
I watched the forums at gtaforums.com as I have for the past 4 years, as soon as I had a hint the game might hit pc. I watched it all the way up till I got home from work today with the game in my hands. tons of people had issues with the video. Man they got mad and would lash out at anyone who tried to help, as if they where being called stupid. but with a process of elimination, we found it was Nvida video cards and a specific driver. The fix was to just un-install the game, Delete all grand theft auto iv folders. un-install the drivers, whip out your cd that came with your video card, install those drivers and re-install the game. Pretty darn simple. Rockstar did say they have a patch in the works to resolve the issue. Read the gta forums , they will help you. There is talk of doing a back up of your entire registry before playing. if you have an issue and have to roll everything back. use th backed up registry. not sure how that works.
Well as I was saying, I was prepared for the worst . well not the worst, let’s not tempt fate.
Well day one is complete. Tomorrow when I have had more sleep, I will work the controller settings and see if I can fix that dang camera.
issues for me are as follows: camera angles, CD key registration (you have to put the dashes in), Can’t sign into windows live until you do the windows live update, and can’t use all features until Rockstar fixes the servers
scale 1-10 , I give the game an 8 . that is first try experience, let’s see if tomorrow helps or hurts that score.
I will be back with the multiplayer report in about 5 days. I want good practice first.
