How to make Folders on Android 4.0.4 Ice cream Sandwich

Upgraded my cell phone finally. Now it’s time to customize my phone with all of my folders and regular apps. so… wait.. wtf? Why? Where did it go?
Took me a couple weeks to learn this. but of course I just upgraded from one of the older versions of Android that allows you to long press the main screen to create folders and a few other options. So it was frustrating when I long pressed my main screen and the only option I got was to change my background.
One of my coworkers has gone so far as installing some application that helps him create folders on his phone and get this. It even lets him create labels for the folders.

Well, the answer is simple. yet impractical. So when you see the answer, you’re going to twitch an eye a bit. It’s so simple that when I tried to show my coworker, he wasn’t having it. Did not want to hear any of it.

go to main menu
Locate application shortcut.
long press that shortcut.
drag and drop to main screen.
locate another application, long press that application
drag and drop that shortcut onto the other application shortcut on main screen.

Folder will pop open, now click on the title. It will allow you to create a title for the folder.

This might be an accident, and will most likely get removed from next version of android.
Can’t go letting us have all this control .

Right?

Latest Facebook Vanity Hack is mean

facebook hack

Facebook hack

yep. another hack that has people wondering who looks at their Facebook page, fighting for their account.
The message displayed is “I just found out Who Has Been Checking Out My Profile” and then below is a picture that has the word (cut off a bit to entice your to click it) “KNOW WHO HAS BEEN STALKING YOUR PROFILE” and of course a link to any number of different versions of the app now created on Facebook..
Latest hack to Facebook accounts creates a personal page from your account with random alpha-numeric symbols, plus adds it’s self to your apps and creates a new app under developer section.

You must unlike that page (look here) and you must remove access to your account from that app (start here), and then delete the app from your app developer’s section, now change apps password (here), then change your password to your account(here).

Now would be a good time to scan your computer for a virus.Try this virus scanner. Or any virus scanner on this page

From someone being burned by this

From the top of your Page, click Edit Page
Select Update Info
Select Apps from the left sidebar
Click Edit Settings beneath the app you want to remove
Click Remove
that’s the fix
it deleted the page

I must warn you though, as she was typing this, the hack was still steadily posting.

Her new update

From the top of your Page, click Edit Page
Select Update Info
Select Apps from the left sidebar
Click Edit Settings beneath the app you want to remove
Click Remove — this is what you have to do to delete the page and app that was installed. THEN, you or someone else has to report the activity. Then you have to go through security measures to verify your account. Change your FB password, change the password(s) you have associated with any emails for FB and cross your fingers, toes, put your shirt on backwards, take one shoe off, etc.

And please, stop clicking those vanity links. They never work.

When did Tech Forums Become So Useless?

Found myself in a tech support forum looking for help, leaving there very unhelped, unsatisfied and kind of bullied. Tech forums seem to have become the guy that argues the best, is the go-to guy for tech help these days. and that seems to have killed off a lot of people’s desire to visit tech forums. This is my experience with the latest forum I went to… and a little back story.

Cricket_PhoneI was gifted a Motorola Droid Bionic  by a coworker. This Phone was built for the Verizon network. The network I have my cell phone service from is Cricket. After some research, I find that I can get my bionic flashed to Cricket’s network.
At the time, I also had a roommate who had an android cell phone, that was on the Verizon network, and she was wanting to try Cricket. Since I didn’t have the money to get my Bionic flashed just yet, we took her Android to the local Cricket store and had it flashed to their network. We compared her phone signal, to the signal I was getting with my old phone. Her signal was a considerable amount better than mine. and my phone was built for the Cricket network. So I decided that I was definitely flashing this new  Bionic to Cricket.
That night, my roommate got an update notice to her phone. So.. Like any normal person would do, she clicked the “accept” button for the update request. Next morning my roommate had no signal. She was not receiving text messages and she was not receiving phone calls. She was unable to send a text massage and she was unable to make a phone call. So, back to the Cricket store we went. The clerk was very helpful and asked my roommate if she accepted an update notice, and my roommate like a trooper admitted this with a smile. The clerk said “yep, that’s what kills our flashings. First one is free for you ma’am, but please do not accept the next update or you will be in here again getting your phone flashed back to Cricket and it will not be free”. We thanked the clerk and came back a few hours later to pick up the phone. Sure enough, there was an update notice on her phone, she hit cancel and then fiddled around with the phone a bit and then disabled the notice.
After seeing that, I booted up my Motorola Bionic, connected to my router and searched for an update. No update available. A few days later (pay day) I booted the phone yet again and checked for any software updates I could. None except Facebook  but nothing for the operating system of the phone. I take my phone into the Cricket store and pay my $75 to get the phone flashed, come back an hour later to pick it up. Sure enough… Update notice. at the very exact second I saw the notice, the clerk told me “Do not update the operating system (may have said firmware but I have my doubts)”.

So I go home and search for ways to disable the update notice. I came across cricketusers.com . I posted a simple question trying to find where the heck my roommate went in her settings to disable the update notice. This turned into a bunch of over zealous tech tards trying to get me to reflash the phone. all I wanted to know, is where in the menu did she find the setting to disable the notice. Since the roommate wasn’t very techy, she really has no clue what she did. and that is brain murder in it’s self. but she got it done.

So now I know why that place is empty and no one goes there. Techy dudes that get angry because people do not want to follow their misguided misinformed advice. I don’t care if that guy was Dr. Jacob W. Cricket. He wasn’t listening to the issue and how simple the solution could be. Just in a mindset of “I know better, listen to me…. rebuild everything”.

and this is what killed forums. Newbies.

New Version Same old thing Facebook Black Scam

faecbook-facebook-black

So. We all survived the tagging of friends and adding a link below that links to a site that steals your Facebook account password and makes a new post, with your account, tagging all of your friends. Sad thing is, you never know your account is compromised because all of your friends assume you know.
Well the latest one has respelled it’s self. instead of saying FACEBOOK BLACK, it now misspells Facebook and says Faecbook Black.

What the scammer is doing is getting your password and then seeing how many followers you have. at the same time, it spams out a picture that looks worthy of investigation and a link below it with very little information. This causes your friends who are now tagged in the image to say “what the heck is this, it must be good, my friend tagged me in it”. When the scammer finds an account with lots of followers, they will change the password to the account, and then post lots of spam . In the meantime all of the people who have clicked on the link, their profile is now clicking like on all of the scammer’s stolen profiles. The scammer then sells the account to the highest bidder saying “We can get you 5000 likes on Facebook”

So if you click any of those scam links, change your password quick. Post this link on that post (to warn others), Untag yourself from the image because all of your friends are now seeing that image. Go back to the friend’s account that tagged you in the image and message them to change their password and untag everyone from the image and then delete it.

Please let me know if you see a different version of this. Just use the comments section below.

Facebook Contests are PR Scams

These contests never have real life winners unless it’s junk that advertises their regular products. Shirts, hats, sweatbands.
These contests are created to get people to like their page, subscribe to their content and to harvest email addresses for news letters and later to be sold to spammers to fill your email box with junkmail.

This is the lowest form of spam. It’s an old form of spam also. Just with a social media twist.

It looks like a lot of these are put together by the same Pr group hired to “increase social media activity”.
Kind of like the search engine optimization companies who call you about increasing traffic to your website and making it easier to find in search engines… Um… how did they find your website to call you?

Well these winners do not exist. They are just members of the Social traffic companies hired to increase traffic to a company’s twitter and Facebook.

It’s time to move on from Facebook.

Facebook Missing Person posts

I have noticed that a lot of posts have been coming with missing person ads on them. and well there seems to be a misplaced etiquette issue going on.Sudden burst of missing person’s pictures showing up on Facebook. How can they be hurting the search with this?

See I do understand that some people want their child or wife or puppy back. It makes sense to go to the easiest venue for this.

Missing_on_facebook
Notice this picture says “yesterday” the teen age child has been missing a few hours and you post a photo of them as missing? With zero contact information on it? It says to call Midland police. but what country? What state? Should I run through every Midland in the world until I find one with a police station on 101? This seems fake. Though it might not be. It seems fake. Does it say who the concerned parent is? No. Leave a phone number for a police authority? No. There is a Midland in the state that I live in. but the guy sharing the picture, is in a whole other country well over 10 hours flight time away. So it might not even be from my state.

The guy sharing the image does not allow people to contact him directly. So … If I see her how would I contact you?
Did the owner of this Facebook account steal this image from a concerned parent who is sharing the image on their profile who does allow people to contact them? Why couldn’t the owner of this account just hit the share button instead of downloading the picture, then re-uploading the image as his own? Now there is no way to tell the parents directly.

If I was a concerned parent, I would want people to contact ME with any leads. I would contact the police. I would want them to call everyone, and I would leave them as much contact capability possible and make it as easy as I could for them.

I sometimes wonder if the people just make fake posts about missing persons to increase their Klout Scores. If so then this is low. If not, then someone needs to contact the parents and have them understand how to increase communication with possible witnesses.

On another note. It’s funny how people can pick apart anything anyone says, but Snopes seems to be the holy word of the wise.

Bank of America Hacked?

Bank of America is down.

Someone claiming to be Anonymous is claiming to have taken Bank of America down.

But wasn’t very long lived. The site is up and running with promotional redirects and everything.

Sometimes you have to wonder if bankers do this to get free advertisements at the head of a group that might not even care about Bank of America’s front end.

seems fishy the site goes down and comes back with updates.

Do Klout Scores and Facebook likes really represent a Company’s Worth?

Do Klout Scores and Facebook likes really represent you Company’s Worth?
These days, to be anyone, you have to have a bunch of likes on Facebook. This brings your “Likability” up. See the moguls and giants and the interns (that sell the giants on new ideas so they can get a job) have a connection issue between them. The interns have these ideas to use everything new they can think of so they can sell their foot in the door of where they are wanting to work. So they tell the higher ups “It’s time to move in a new direction” or “No you are thinking like the old way” as if you have been in a coma since “the old way”.

There are Exploits to Facebook that no one even cares to realize are there, except those who use them, to use you to get ahead and never once look back to help you.

New Media Flaw

See.. Likes are likes. No matter how real or true they may be. a like is a like. Such as the tool that shares the rumor of Starbucks not supporting troops. This is a guy that uses a program called “Klout“. Klout gives you a score for every share and like you get on Facebook. as long as the guy sharing that rumor doesn’t let anyone comment on that image, he will get lots of shares and likes. The moment the shares stop, the moment his Klout score stops getting better. Klout doesn’t care about how real your likes are, just that you got them.
Such as here Rumor that Bill Gates is Giving $5000 to people who share is picture.

Klout scores and Facebook likes are a scam for marketing. Something that old media has had a curb on for decades.
Truth is, don’t go buying some company because their Klout score is high. because seriously, you have no idea how they got that score. Sure they got it with likes on Facebook. but what the heck are people liking on that company’s page? Are the likes related to the products? If someone is selling you a company based on Klout scores and Facebook likes, make sure they show every liked item and total of likes. For all you know it could be something gory or totally unrelated to their product. If it’s a cookie company but they have more likes related to something political… then their product is no good. No one likes it.

Bill Gates Giving away $5000 to people on Facebook?

Is Bill Gates Giving away $5000 to people on Facebook?
I mean….. You saw a picture of Bill gates holding a sign saying that he will be giving $5000 to everyone who shares his picture on Facebook!!!!!

bill_gates_facebook_$5000

Sorry to tell you folks but you have been duped.

Do you know how many people have downloaded and re-uploaded that picture? There is no method known to man to find even 1/1000th of the people sharing that picture or even 1/100th of the people who have the picture in their personal albums.
Bill_gates_Reddit
The troll that is sharing that picture is currently at a few 40 thousand shares. The easiest way to tell it’s a troll, is the person sharing the Bill Gates (Facebook version) image personally are hostingthe picture in their photo album, saying “It couldn’t hurt” as if the way they are possessing and sharing the image is the same as just clicking the share button. Once a picture is in your personal photo album, it no longer adds to the count of the original image.

troll

troll

and to top it off, they make it so you can’t comment to warn others that it is fake.

The image originally came from reddit, where Bill just did an “Ask ME Anything” visit to let people ask what they want to, and he tries to answer all or as many questions as he can.

If there is any question as to which Bill Gates image is the original. See the little guys he drew on the Reddit version? Look at the one on the right. That is the icon of Reddit.com

Look behind Bill, there is a plush version of that little Reddit on the dresser.
There is a phallic Device that has been photoshopped into the background and the sign he is holding is clearly typed on top of the image.
See it’s shadow? now look at the image with the phallic (Gigantic plug), why does it have the shadow of the plush toy?
No Bill Gates is not giving you $5000 for sharing a picture.

Please share this post in the comments section on facebook when you see the fake one get passed around. not to call your friends stupid, but to stop this from being a thing.

Facebook and the Etiquette Thing

You log into your Facebook account and look at all of the happy notices you have and you start clicking through them. This is your daily pop in and check thing. You do it once, twice, a few times a day. You leave your witty comment and you go about your day until you have a stale moment and you check your Facebook again and read your friends pages. You post a picture, you like a message, and sometimes you repost them. This is the daily thing. This is completely acceptable.

Where the issue begins.
Tagging
You post a picture of a duck and you tag all of your friends that you think would like to see this duck. Where that becomes an issue, is now your friend has to wonder ‘Should I untag myself from this duck? Will it upset my friend if I do that? Oh well I’ll just leave it”. Pretty simple solution right? Then the person does it again. Since you let it happen before, they see no reason that you’d care. Besides it’s kind of antisocial now to untag yourself. Oddly enough??.. Now your other friend sees you getting tagged in a picture and realizes that YOU like ducks. Now you are tagged in every picture on the website, as a duck.
Okay, ducks, big deal they’re cute. Right?. but what happens when it becomes “Please help the children of the nuclear plant explosion” See that one is tough. It’s a charity type thing… Right? but what if the picture is of these children with radioactive skin falling off? Poor babies. Right? Now you are the person who is into gore and death.

I can be close to vulgar in some of my posts, and I have a bunch of friends who are very vulgar in their posts. I do not want to be tagged in a vulgar post. I don’t want my mom to see it. Even if it’s a vulgar title to express a look on a puppy’s face in the picture. I don’t want it. Don’t do it!

Facebook etiquette

Facebook etiquette

Yes I selected that picture because of the spammy link at the bottom.

Unauthorized pictures
You and your friend are at the zoo and your friend is taking a ton of pictures of you both. and uploading them straight to Facebook. all of these pictures, you have maybe a booger hanging out of your nose, and your friend thinks it is funny and will not remove the pictures.Or you are with a person you are considering to date, but uncertain, meanwhile there is another person you are considering to date. You get a photo of you with your arm around someone, that may turn out to be a bad date with in the next couple days. What does the other person you are seeing have to feel when they see this picture? It doesn’t make you a bad person to be testing out matches. Not at all. You aren’t bound to either of them. They’re still new to you. but jeese, you don’t leave them feeling insecure about you.

Since when did it become okay to post another person’s picture online?

Unauthorized Check-in
You have a stalker. and just don’t know it yet. and your friend is checking you in at the lingerie warehouse for obese people.
Someone does a check-in while in your house and labels it something like “TruXter’s party barn”.

It’s okay to do some of these things at appropriate times. but come on. Control yourself people. You don’t have to tag your friends in everything you do. This is spam. Where is the Facebook etiquette booklet?

  • Can we please stop posting posts with hash tags on Facebook?
  • Can we stop making our kids beg, holding signs saying they will get (enter gift here) if they get 100000 likes ?
  • Stop posting that stupid post about Starbucks not supporting the troops. It’s fake. People do this just for the likes .
