Just received a laptop computer as payment for replacing a motherboard on another laptop. The laptop I received as payment is a Toshiba A75 S2112 Satellite.

Goods

Very nice looking. Keys move fast. Screen is very shiny. Images look clear and crisp. The on board memory and yes I do mean “on board”, the memory is actually part of the motherboard. There is one slot for an upgrade stick. Hard drive is quite though you feel it spin up for sure. There are two fans under the motherboard and a large copper heat sink. Volume knob on the right side. A media button on the left (can assign it to any .exe). Two speakers in the front, they function well with no cracking noises. Latch lock works flawlessly. At times the computer is super fast. DVD burner. good solid housing. Battery works and charges up within just minutes. Built in WIFI is strong and has not failed once. 3 usb 2.0 ports 1 lan port and one modem connection. All lights function. Plenty of bundled software, came with Microsoft Office, tons of editing software like video and image (I’m still going to download and use GIMP it’s what I am used to)

Bads

When I got the laptop, the power button was inside the housing rattling around. Line going up the screen on the left. Some times the computer slows way down. Over heating despite the dual fan and large heatsink.If laptop is set on a table while running it will shut off in a blink in less than 20 minutes.  Battery about 4 hours as long as I keep airflow unobstructed. There are many old posts on this 5 year old computer talking about solder failure due to overheating.

Fixes

Got the power button to stay on by use of a Soldering iron and a pen cap.

Worked to repair the overheating issue cleaned fan and heatsink pulled out half a wig of hair, dust and funk. (fail) Still crashes when sitting on a table.

Screen having a line up the left if I push on the screen, sometimes the line goes away. Someone showed me how but i kind of didn’t start listening until I saw it work. So I have to go back and re-ask.  If I can get it to fix by Doing so, then I will locate the issue better and solve it.

For the work I did on the other computer and the fact this thing actually runs ( This post is being done on the Toshiba), is a great factor in this review. It’s like a free computer . I spent seven hours on that other computer. She spent $100 on this computer. Who got the better deal ?

I am not a legal adviser or legal aid or an attorney so take this with a grain of salt. do not base your legal or financial judgments on what I state here. This pretty much is a place for me to post links to the information I need to take to work and say “I TOLD YOU JERKS!”.

Many ask, some think not to ask, and some are just plain stubborn stupid and deep in denial on the subject. (we can call them addicts)
If you want the short answer. No it is not legal. From Maryland to southern California it is not legal to transfer funds to make a payment for gambling Safe Port Act. That is one simple law. Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA)
There are many laws that support the ones who online gambling to stop.
In the state of Texas it is illegal to gamble.
It is illegal to obtain money from gambling
it is illegal to obtain money without reporting it to the IRS.
It is illegal to obtain money and falsely report it’s origin to the IRS.

It is illegal to wire money through phone line or internet. Safe Port Act

Those are the simple laws we know since we left the fifth grade. I see a Jeff Foxworthy joke coming in a minute.

See the other day I was eating lunch with my boss and his son. They brought up online gambling. I decided to keep my opinion to myself about the whole subject.

(at one time I signed up to 15 online casinos, all 15 of them had me download and install some extra safety and security software. All fifteen had at least one virus. I was going to do a report on them but realized…. these freaks could be mafia. so I never finished the report and will not post names of the online casinos)

So I sat with my mouth shut. You know it’s my boss and well. He is a bit addicted to that crap. Then they asked  the whole table ” Is online gambling legal in the u.s. ?” Everyone spoke their brown nosed opinion and I chimed in, I couldn’t hold it said “NO”. The whole table looked at me. The boss and his son decided to make fun of the fact that I said no.. . They where in some mockery event they decided to pull in my honor.

I ask ” Have you ever seen any online casinos advertised on tv?” Of course our office leeching mooch with his  nose so deep in the bosses wrinkle stink chimed in “I have” so I called him on it “BullSH&t” . It is illegal to advertise Gambling in the united states has been illegal since 2003. back in 2002 Yahoo and Google pulled the ads out of their system to prevent issues. Web designers and owners know this. The Sporting News (TSN) got nailed 7.2 Million Dollars for waiting three years to pull down the online Gambling ads. (the casinos paid lots of money so the 7.2 was squat).

I know what the law states about it. as I said I was doing a bit of a write up back in the day when I thought you actually had to be super thorough about everything. Thank god those days are over. Now I can just copy and past and link you to it. Lot less work that way. Us laws against online Gambling. So now I am the negative guy who does not want to agree with anyone. Of course i have to post a link from some gambling focused website that  dances some foolish way of making you think you can catch 22 the system.

Really it takes a fool to partake in that event. It is an electronic card. it is not a real piece of paper card that you would hold in your hand. just like you don’t gamble in a real life casino. They have cameras everywhere. The dealers have ear buds. You figure out what I am suggesting.  just like you can’t beat the Texas Lottery. FYI the Texas Lottery is not owned by the state of Texas. The ultimate games for killing time while waiting for other things while in locations that you normally would be bored in.

Of course that is how I explain the use of such application. You can’t just install one. One game is over fast and you are out of stamina and health and all that other stuff, long before you have a chance to actually do anything. So installing each of those games you actually get extra bonus points for the the others. It’s like 20 points. These points are the ones you trade for goods. In most game companies you have to buy those points. So this helps a bit.

World War – build your armies and fight everyone that attacks you.

Vampires Live -build your vampire up and get a group of friends (the more friends the better) and get blood thirsty

Ninjas Live -build your ninja up and attack like crazy, defend like a mad man

iMobsters –  same as vampires but with a mobster theme.

Racing Live – build your car and get faster defense and wins.

Kingdoms Live – Same as world war but money comes slow.

Fun With GIMP

I have been using The Gimp for several years now. I use it at work. Even though I  have photoshop on my work computer I still insist on using GIMP. Why? well because I have been broke for many years and am very used to using GIMP.

Well I have been watching one of my Facebook friends do a bunch of stuff with her Apple computer. She has been editing pictures using what ever program that thing uses and well it makes some of the complicated stuff quite easy. Then again she has never been the total newb so it might actually be hard. I don’t know.. I just assumed. =-\

Well I noticed she posted a photo that was unedited.

Iphone4 Released

The Iphone 4 has been released. At some AT&T had lines of people who camped waiting to be one of the first to obtain 1.
The apearance is slightly more boxy and resembles past ipods with hint of influence from android phone shapes.
Functionality has been smoothed in ways that makes android phones look dated. Video quality is suprisingly high. That will surely be compared to droid 5mp cams.
Full review on the review section of truxtertech.com . Houston malls opened at 7 am to release. Day 2 opening at 8 am. For those who missed out. Video chat works.

I really didn’t talk to the people on geniusgeeks I just stopped by their site and well from the looks of it. They have no reason to advertise me on their site.

Security Camera Amazement

Sitting at a Houston Fire Alarm company who also does security systems, I was participating in a webinar from VideoIQ I was surprised at the bag of gadgets they had to show. Due to the agreement of watching the video I can’t tell you much about the innovative ground breaking networking device about to come. Just be certain it will cut short all of the issues you face in many large facilities. So keep watching their site for an update.
I can however tell you about the cameras they have on their site with between 160 gb of storage up to 500 gb storage. They call it “Zero-bandwidth recording” Some cameras are capable of up to 1080p 30fps true HD recording.

This will be a great future for HiTech Fire using VideoIQ products. This is the type of thing that customer want, but do not want to pay for. It is the stuff they wish they had when their  $10 camera takes a fuzzy video and the suspects can not be  identified.

Ninjas Live, this game is crazy fun. I am so glad it came to the Android system. I have been playing this thing now for a week on my Droid Phone. Not many games are this fun. I have to say that storm8 knew what they where doing. I just want to see storm8 Come out with Pirates Live and let us all go head to head pirates verses Ninjas lol.
