Did Houston Police Throw Away Donation

There is an image being shared by a lady on Facebook. It shows a garbage truck and a couple police cruisers under an overpass in Houston.
The image description says that the police showed up to a spot where someone was giving out food and “other gifts” with a garbage truck to throw away these items.
Here’s the exact quoted text (minus the hash-tags)

I was just informed that a group of people came to pass out free food and other gifts to the homeless in downtown Houston. Not only were the police called, but they brought a large waste management truck and are forcing the homeless to throw away their food, pillows and other items.

What this suggest is that the police have a guy in the garbage industry that can man up and fuel up a garbage truck quickly and without hesitation, and get to that location before the items scatter into different directions. As if there is a garbageman police sting set up at every intersection just waiting to pounce. Or, if the garbage truck and police cruisers are following this person around the city taking things from everyone they donate to.

I don’t know about every single spot in Houston, but most overpasses have a maximum of about 4 people under them and, when they see police, they just kind of scatter. Because, if they don’t, the police will break them up. If there is an overpass that has so many homeless and hungry people under it that it would require a garbage truck to show up, then the police have a huge issue and someone has been slacking.

Nowhere in the picture do you see any homeless people.

Nowhere in the image do you see a vehicle large enough to carry the amount of food that would require a garbage truck to be able to dispose of  it.

The police would not take the items. They would fine the donor; unless, the food was in such poor quality it had to be destroyed.

Where are the videos? Where are the photos of this? There is just this one and it looks like it is coming from someone driving past the location and later making up a story.
Where is the union complaining about the Houston Police forcing people to work after hours? Waste management unions will not put up with such things.

So, is this picture and story for real?
There are too many logical holes in this story. It has nothing to support it other than this one picture that shows less than the story says.

False until proven otherwise

How to disable LIVE VIDEO notifications on facebook

Do we care? Do we care that someone has their iPhone on shooting some useless shaky footage of them at the dmv giving a play-by-play?
No we do not.
If you are at the white house and asking good questions, then yes, we all want to see it  (you might get arrested using the camera. not sure. never tried so.. ask first). but if you are just running the live video for the sake of streaming live on Facebook (which you can do with Ustream and have been able to do since Facebook started). Please don’t send out mass notifications
Dear Facebook, please quit opting me in for that crap. I don’t care is someone is streaming a live video of how to call a library and ask for an extension.

Okay.
That’s out of the way.
Let’s get rid of the “Live video” notifications.

  • Open Facebook on your computer. Click the globe in the top right corner. the one that is for notifications.
When the list of notifications drops down, look at the top right of that. Click on “settings”
    live.settings
  • Scroll all of the way down to the bottom of the “settings” page, and there it is.Says “Live videos”.
  • Look to the right hand side.
  • There will be a small drop down menu.Likely says on or all on.
  • Click that and make your choice. I selected “ALL OFF!!!!” .
  • livenotificationsoff
  • That simple. You’re done

Social Media and Sharing with Your Friends

No one will call you a liar or call you out if you like and share a friend’s website, article or event page. You are not too good to help a friend and your other friends are not too good to see you share that post. Facebook and Twitter are not just for posting funny memes, inspirational pictures or helpful quotes. Your friends will not analyze your likes and shares. They will look to see if it is worth them sharing and liking too. Who knows, maybe you don’t think much of it, but one of your other friends might like the post and share it too, or even purchase the content.

If you see a friend posting from their website or personal company page, share that stuff for them. If you like what your friend is sharing then, by all means, share that stuff. If you don’t like it but you see your friend struggling to get the word out about what they have to offer, share that stuff. If you see a friend post an event, even if it’s an event about watching paint dry, share it. If your friend shares something and you don’t share it or comment on it or click the like button, but within the next day or…well, in any day after that for the rest of your friendship, you share that same exact content, but from the page of someone famous – you are not a thoughtful friend. You are someone helping promote the content of someone who does not need help and will not appreciate it.

If you think one of your friends might like the content your other friend is promoting then share it. Help.

When your friend shares content on Facebook or Twitter or LinkedIn, they are getting the maximum amount of visibility they can from their limited amount of friends. If 10% of their friends would share the same content, the visibility of that content would increase ten fold.

See, there is another article on the sister site talking about band promotions and how so many people will post on the event page saying why they can not come; and, no one sharing the article. It’s the “Invite Etiquette” post. This was the inspiration of this article. I wrote that article a couple of years back and I tagged all of the musicians I saw who I know have posted events and the page was full of people saying, “Sorry, working Kool-Aid stand with senile neighbor’s cousin’s favorite teacher”. I prefer to say nothing if too busy to comment or, “Bad ass. Hell yeah,” then private message my excuse. “Sorry…rectal exam that day because I’m an a$&ho1e”. Blah. blah, blah.

The issue I have here is, never has a musician shared that post. The best I got was one comment and maybe a like or two. Sure it might come off rude if a musician shared that link. That would only happen if the musician didn’t add a funny quip like, “HAHAHA – Someone is fed up,” etc.

Share your friend’s stuff. Don’t leave this type of exposure for just the scammers and spammers. Help your friend get exposure. It costs you one maybe two clicks. That’s it *click click*, then end. Done. You are now a friend that cares.

This goes for Twitter and LinkedIn. How does your broke friend with, what they think is a great idea, get seen or have half a chance if you, a “friend”, won’t even like, share or at least comment on what they have to expose to the world. Tweet that stuff on Twitter. Like and share that on Facebook and LinkedIn. Help your friend before your friend has to see someone else with a bigger, tighter group of friends steal his idea, which you will likely share at that point.

Meme Battles, yep it’s a thing

I found myself in what is called a “meme battle” on Facebook last night.
Considering it was Facebook, the whole battle thing was some dude and all of his stock piled memes. None had anything to do with the conversation. None of the memes had any consistency, other than name calling and cussing. There was no flow to his posts. Just cussing and posting about how bad he burned me.
I on the other-hand took a slower approach and told a story with the memes.
He never understood it. Probably because he is a Facebook user at the peak of his computer knowledge and meme understanding. In his crowd I am sure he is “Hax0r”. or some mislabeled glorified pointless identification for his blatant a.d.d. stream of turrets memes.
I never got around to posting an old article I wrote about having consistency and or originality to your meme usage. One of those “Woulda Shoulda Coulda” things. Random image guy on facebook
folks, if you intend to post memes on Facebook, be consistent, have a story and relate to the topic. Not just random onslaught of pictures that you think “burn someone”.

Facebook Issues

Let’s go straight into this in bitterness about facebook.

No I will not sign your petition.
How many polls can we get about 80s,90s movies and what was better and who was better?
Quit Geo-tagging our images.
That stuff is not safe at all.
Can we post more pictures in a day?
I know people who post only pictures. All dang day long.
Comments section of popular posts, nothing but dudes posting poorly used memes. The exact same memes all day every day 10000 times.

How do you disable Facebook tagging?

Since Facebook does nothing to stop the sunglasses spammers from tagging you in pictures, let’s help you prevent getting tagged in things you don’t want to be tagged in. Because really, you can get tagged in other things that are really popular and your phone starts buzzing all day long over something you don’t care about. Neat…. a picture of a cheeto that looks like a belly button….

On right side of your screen click the padlock. a menu will pop up (see next image)

At the bottom of the menu click that spot that looks like a disclaimer but says “See more settings”
securitysettings

On left side of the screen click on “Timeline and tagging”
tagged
Next you will see “How can I manage tags people add and tagging suggestions?” look to the right and you will also see these three things:
Review tags people add to your own posts before the tags appear on Facebook?
When you’re tagged in a post, who do you want to add to the audience if they aren’t already in it?
Who sees tag suggestions when photos that look like you are uploaded?

Change those to what you feel comfortable with.
To allow no one to see what you are tagged in turn the first option on. That will prevent people from posting tags to your timeline. The next one if it is set to “only me”. Doesn’t allow it to get any further.
The last one set to “no one”, allows no one to get suggestions to tag you in pictures. This forces the tagger to have to type your name and purposely mean to tag you in a picture. Even though they see that you clearly do not want to be tagged.

Years ago you could tell Facebook to not allow people to tag you in pictures. That was removed when Facebook was working on perfecting their facial recognition software back in 2008 or so.
So don’t count on Facebook allowing you to block tagging.

10 reasons people stick with Facebook

There are many reasons people do not leave Facebook or at least try other social websites. Such as Reddit or Google plus or even twitter. But the number one truth is, the deep down the most common is the #1 reason in this list.
I myself stayed for 8 long useless years but I did try other social websites instead of just Facebook alone. And ya know what? They all were fun. Especially during the boring times when no one posted updates to Facebook. Or during the constant bombardment of memes and no one actually talking. During the times of endless farmville and similar games invites.
I was always looking for a way out of Facebook. And well. Now that I am banned or suspended until I show them my i.d. (same thing for all I care, and yes they are requesting my i.d.) I feel less stressed out. I feel less fake. I feel less like I am trying to prove something.
I’m free really.

10. They use Facebook for specific reasons .
9. They somehow think Facebook is safer than other websites.
8. They believe Facebook is more than a chatsite because of very common features.
7. They have elder freinds who are hard to transplant to a new site and it would be hard to explain the privacy issues.
6. They have many pictures stored on Facebook.
5. They dont want to start their games over.
4. It is their home page.
3. They have already accepted so much privacy intrusion and don’t feel like giving up so much privacy to yet another website.
2. They can barely use Facebook and don’t want to learn a new site.
1. They don’t want to rebuild their fake freinds list again.

There are alternatives to Facebook. You just have to find them.

Facebook has gone too far

*UPDATE* Facebook is definitely asking every single person for their identification, and making changes to your profile to match what you sent them
If you have a friend who had theirs changed but says they never sent their i.d., they are likely ashamed they sent it.
*end update*

facebooktoointrusive Facebook is now asking me to upload a copy of my Driver’s License to unlock my facebook page that I have kept for about 8 years now. Don’t they know that this is what killed Google Plus from the get go? Is the over intrusive nosy bodied “all up in yours” mentality that “This is my site you will not use my site without blah blah blah” Yeah I get that. You have your rules and you have your ways. but there is no way, ever on a rainy day in hell that I will upload my driver’s license to anyone on the internet. I value my privacy. Hence the use of the name I use. This name is well over 20 years. and I am known for this name with many people. I will not use my personal real name on a website. If the website requires I use my real name and verify myself by sending them a copy of my identification, then I am done with that website.

You will not get my driver’s license . You will not get my real name on a social media site.. It’s a fricken spam site. There is no damn way you will ever see me uploading that information to this random dude/female just so I can chat.

Until they release my account with an apology I will not be back and I will take my posts about their intrusiveness behavior to better social site. Such as Reddit and Twitter and wherever my friends from there will share them.

And if there is some weird way you see some other form of identification that I should use, no I will not. It’s just a chat site. Nothing more. No reason to verify myself other than by originating email.

Here is what I get when I type in my password, the page I get redirected to

If that page does not do the same for you as it does for me, it looks like this

Here is the facebook page explaining why and what form of i.d. is acceptable

I saw this at work, I am seeing this at home. No I am not hijacked. No I am not honey potted.

This is really happening. This intrusive High risk step to make sure we all “know who we are connecting with”.

Facebook is way too vulnerable for me to give my information to them. There is no way in blue hell that I will send a copy of my identification to them. No damn way. Maybe if you sent me the I.D. of every person looking at my personal information, maybe. but that isn’t likely. So … Nope. Screw that.

And here is the email notification from Facebook

facebookintrusive

and my response to facebook asking for a copy of my I.D.
facebookasksformyi.d

I will be waiting for their response.

My only guess is the spammers I busted in this post all banned together and reported me as spam in retaliation. and since I am easier to beat than actual spammers, Facebook  has pulled this crap.

Facebook without the Facebook app

operaSo you have seen the warnings on the news and the internet about how intrusive Facebook can be with their new apps.
I get upset knowing that they can do this and people will install the applications anyway. What I am most bothered by is the fact that you need so many applications to use just one website. What I used to do with just one app, now requires three Facebook apps. No. I refuse and will not do this.
There is an alternative to using the Facebook app if you want to use Facebook on your mobile device.and a good alternative to Facebook app at that.

I use opera browser for Facebook. android version | Iphone Version
Also if you registered your phone number to Facebook, then go into setting (here)and you can get a text message feature added to your account so that you can send messages to Facebook via text message. once that is activated, send a text to Facebook saying “on”.
facebooknotifications
This way you get notifications when you get another text message.
when that becomes too much, send a message to Facebook saying “off” and it will turn notifications back off.

As you see in this image you can add shortcuts to the Opera browser that look just like the apps. just hit the pluss button next to the navigation bar to add the page to your favorites/bookmarks and your icon will be placed on the front page of your Opera install.

Opera works better than your default browser and ten fold better than chrome or Firefox.
