How to Change the Printhead for Canon IPF710

Canon Image  Prograph 710. Prints a nice fine colorful line, Excellent for design in  computer aided drafting.
It seems the printhead has an exact life predetermined. As if there is an exact number of prints it is allowed  before you have to pay your plotter dues. What I mean is, this head goes out pretty often. about once every two years where I work.
Today I got the  fine duty of removing and replacing this printhead.
So I took pictures along the way and decided I would post a “How to” for those who might want to see the process.
Fairly simple printhead to replace.

Before anything, on eyour Image  Prograph 710 (ipf710) go to the menu, and go to maintenance.
1. Select the option that says “replace printhead”.
The plotter will make a few sounds and put up a warning on the screen saying it is busy.
What plotter  is doing, is evacuating all of the ink in the printhead so you don’t make a mess and or mess up the plotter with an ink spill.
This  took about 3-5 minutes.
2.  When the  plotter has completed dumping the ink out of the printhead, you should hear some beeps and the screen will now tell you to unlock and  lift the large front  cover.
3.  The printhead carriage will now be in the center (or close enough that you can access the printhead) and the screen should be prompting you to open the  carriage cover.  Do that, it lifts from the front to the back. It’s about 3″x5 “.

carriage cover

4. Inside you will there is another locking mechanism, likely the same color. Lift that one also, it should lift from  back to the front. More like a locking arm.

Arm Lock

5.You should then find yet another locking mechanism,  likely the same color, it should lift from front to back.
When you lift this one, you should feel a click, that’s the printhead being released and slightly pushed up and outward. No more than an 8th of an inch though.

Last Lock

6. Now is a good time to put on a glove. There may be some ink.  Ours was quite clean.    Now reach in and grip the printhead tight and pull upward. Should not need much force. Be careful. Many breakable  parts in this area that can cost you plenty of downtime.

PF-03 printhead

This is what it looks like from the side Look at the image closely and look at the image above for orientation.
Put the old printhead in a bag  for  recycling. Or save it.
7. Now unbox and unbag the new print head and take the  safety covers off.

Now just reverse what you  just did, but with  new printhead.

Once everything is back together, the printer will  fill the new printhead with ink and begin testing and calibrating. This takes several minutes 10-15 minutes.

Once the calibration is complete, check the printout for anything that looks jagged or like ink blobs. If anything looks out of the ordinary, you may want to run to the menu and see if you can calibrate it again, or run the  head cleaner mode.
Mine was fine so I walked around the office with the calibration results telling everyone I have created a bar graph but couldn’t remember what it was for.
Just to see their frustration about wasted time and ink.

How To Disable Updates Windows 10

Typically you want windows update to always be on and automatic.
But in the tech world of a serviceman who installs devices that depend on windows functions to not change much, an update could lead to the obsoletion of your device. This makes your product no longer work with windows ten. all you can do at that point is either uninstall the latest update and hope that windows sends a better update that fixes the issue. With windows ten, the updates happen often and without your control.

Here’s the only method I have to disable updates on windows 10 to prevent updates from disabling your external devices.
dissable_windows_update (1) Open Control panel
To do this, right click your start menu button or go to your folder browser, then in the address bar of the folder browser type in “control Panel” and press enter.

dissable_windows_update (2)Change Category View to small Icons.
Top right corner of control panel is a drop down menu like what you see in the picture here.

dissable_windows_update (3) open Administrative Tools.
Your control panel icons should be in alphabetic order. Administrative tools is the top left – first icon.

dissable_windows_update (4) Open Services

dissable_windows_update (5) Organize list by name

dissable_windows_update (7) Right click on windows update and select properties

dissable_windows_update (10) Disable start up by clicking the drop down menu by “Start up type” now click “Stop” and click “apply” then “Ok”. I like to set mine to start up type “manual” so I don’t have to go through a whole lot if I want to do a quick update. That’s up to you.

This should disable windows updates on Windows 10

To verify the updates are disabled
dissable_windows_update (12) Head to start menu and click on Settings
dissable_windows_update (13) Click on Update & Security

Now try to do an update.

This How-to seems to stop all updates, manual updates and automatic updates. So far I haven’t had any issues, but you may so be careful and make sure you know how to reverse this (likely do exact steps but backward) before you try and disable windows 10 updates.

Burn a CD or DVD when you don’t have the software

So you have a windows computer, and the computer has a cd burner or dvd burner on it. you’ve looked all around the software and can not find nero or power dvd/cyberlink or any other software known for burning discs.

There’s a good fix and it is free.

It is called CDburnerXP
The name clearly has been around since the windows , and yes the name reflects a time long gone. Clearly they didn’t think ahead when they started the project. doesn’t matter what the name, the software is lightweight, easy to use and does exactly what is expected. Burns your cd or dvd. Will burn either one and seems to work with any brand of typical burner. The burner software even comes with dvd intro selections.

How to burn a CD with CDBurner Xp
Install CDBurner Xp
Insert  a CD into your CD burner on your computer
You should get a menu asking you what you want to do with  the new blank disk. Select the CDBurnerXP option.
Next menu asks you what type of disc are you trying to create. If it’s just files to back up, select Data. I use this option for pictures.
If you want the disc to be  playable media select the  other options related.  but let’s do “Data” for this example.
cdburnermenu
The next window will be titled “data compilation” look near bottom left where you see the word “Disc” with a cd symbol to the left of it. Right click the word “Disc” and select “rename” from the menu. Now type the desired name of the disc your burning.
namedisk
Just drag and drop the files you want to burn in the area that says “Drag and Drop Files Here”
When ready just click the burn icon, fifth from the left at the top row.
burn-disc
Now you just click burn. Your cd should eject when done.
Free, fact and light weight.
Been using this software for years and I tell the creator thank you every time I download it. I won’t even use name brand anymore.

If you have any questions feel free to ask below.

How To Set up EnGenius ENH500

Tried for over a week to get two ENH500 devices to to connect with each other so I could test out their capabilities and put them in tough positions for upcoming projects with the company I work for.
Found a few videos on youtube that showed me how to set up static I.p. addresses on my pc. Which is exactly what’s in the pdf and brochure from the manufacture.
I had to turn to the tech support and see if they can get me the information I need for Setting up my ENH500 devices.

Device #1

Step 1: Log into device #1 (192.168.1.1, both user name and password are admin). You will need
to set your computer to a static IP address in the same subnet like 192.168.1.10

Step 2: Go to “Operation Mode” and change mode to “WDS Bridge” and also select Country code and Accept change.

Step 3: In “WDS Link Settings” set security type and key (we recommend AES). Then below on the same page, enable
ID field 1 and enter the Wireless MAC address of device #2 (the other device). The Wireless MAC address can be found
by looking at the serial label on the back of the unit. It will be the one on the top. After you’re done, hit “Accept”.
Note: You can also find the Wireless MAC address of a unit on the “Main” page when logged into the unit.

Step 4: Go to “Wireless Network” and change channel to 149, 153, 157, or 161 (USA) and Accept change.

Step 5: In “Administration” change the default user name and password (if desired).

Sept 7: In “IP Settings” change the IP address to a new, unused, static IP address on the same subnet and also
enter the default gateway (example 192.168.1.5 if router is 192.168.1.1).

Step 8: Apply all changes by selecting “Save/Reload” (IP address, user name and password and all other changes will
now actually take effect).

Step 9: Leave this unit powered on and move to device #2 (see next page).

Device #2 (Do this while device #1 is on and next to you, not installed at the remote location yet).

Step 1: Log into device #2 (192.168.1.1, both user name and password are admin).

ID field 1 and enter the Wireless MAC address of device #1 (the other device). The Wireless MAC address can be found
by looking at the serial label on the back of the unit. It will be the one on the top. After you’re done, hit “Accept”.
Note: You can also find the Wireless MAC address of a unit on the “Main” page when logged into the unit.

Step 4: Go to “Wireless Network” and change channel to the same channel as device #1 and Accept change.

Step 5: In “Administration” change the default user name and password (if desired).

Sept 7: In “IP Settings” change the IP address to a new, unused, static IP address on the same subnet and also
enter the default gateway (example 192.168.1.5 if router is 192.168.1.1). Do not use the same IP address as device #1.

Step 8: Apply all changes by selecting “Save/Reload”. All changes will now actually take effect.

Step 9: Go to “WDS Link List” and verify link is UP.

Step 10: Install unit at remote location. Go to “WDS Link List” again and verify link is UP and RSSI signal.
-59dBm or better = excellent, -60dBm to -69dBm = good, -70dBm to -79dBm = good, -80dBm or worse = fair to poor.
Verify speed and connectivity etc. If everything tests good, you are done (connect the camera now).

Note: Output power should be the same as device #1. Default power is 20dBm. Turn it up only if RSSI is low
(in “Wireless Advanced Settings”). Add a network switch to connect multiple Ethernet devices at the remote
bridge (if desired). The secondary Ethernet port is “pass through” only, no POE power is available.

Here’s the video from EnGenius
In the test portion of this article I will number the devices by how far from the network they are up to my pc which will be plugged into device #3. So Device 1 is feeding network connection to device #2. Device #2 will be feeding network connection from device #1 to device #3 which my pc is plugged into.

The tests performed
Close Range – Two ENH500 devices sitting less than a foot apart. Signal level was at -3. Which i would have guessed would have been at 0 since there was nothing to interfere.
Line of site – Separated by about 20 feet. Used three EnGenius devices. One connected to the switch next to me to connect to the network, one across the room to receive signal from the first device and one connected to my computer to to connect to the second device. signal strength was -16 and -23.

lineofsite
Obstructed view – Turn all three devices away from each other. No two faced each other. Signal strength -26 and -28.

obstructedsignal
Very Obstructed view – Took the second ENH500 downstairs and placed it behind a small refrigerator and faced it away from the other devices then the faced the other devices away from that one.Distance about 30 feet. Signal strength -34 -40
Daisy chain around obstruction – Placed device 1 at the office modem down stairs. Device 2 in the storage warehouse area, device three still at my pc. Distance from enh500 #1 to #2 approximately 60 feet, Distance to device #3 from device #2 Approximately 45 feet. Signal strength -47 -52.

LAYOUT
Mesh – Turned on all three devices and allowed them all to see and communicate with each other. Had fail to connect. This test is on pause until I figure out where I went wrong.
Worst case Scenario– Took device #2 across the lot into another unit, and plugged in and set it on top of their refrigerator behind a tv. Failed to connect. Distance roughly 120 feet from Device #1 to device #2. Distance from device #2 to Device #3 Roughly 135 feet.
OBSTRUCTEDVIEW

On the final test (worst case scenario) I could not detect device #2. I had to unplug from device #3 and connect myself back into the office network and then log into device #1 to see what the signal was reading. Signal -88. This was through 3 offices,a metal building with brick face and tinted glass, through company vehicles parked in front, across the driveway through more vehicles, brick, tinted glass, an office, a cross path hallway, kitchen wall, to a device laying on a refrigerator behind a tv.

Line of site on a pole, with no obstruction, doesn’t seem like it’s going to be too strict.

How To Use Control Panel Windows 10

Took a while to locate control panel on windows 10.
Found it.
Found that “settings” thing but that seems useless for what I need to do.
For those of you who want to get your control panel back, what you can do is either of two things.  You can navigate to the system32 folder and look for control.exe right click and add to start or add to taskbar or you can right click and create shortcut and move that to the desktop

Or you can cut out the searching and create a shortcut right there on desktop without digging through your folders and files.
Like this

Right click desktop and select “Create Shortcut”

Target= C:\Windows\System32\control.exe

Start in= C:\WINDOWS\system32

After that I just open control panel and change to small icons. This way I get all of my old control panel icons back like  they have always been since windows 95.

Or you can bring your mouse over the start button. right click and in that menu you will find control panel.

How To Change Notepad ++ Spellcheck Language

Got sick of Notepad Plus Plus telling me there is a spelling issue with the word “color” and telling me that “colour” is the better option. I selected English and couldn’t find how to select which version of English spelling.
When designing websites, the word “color” comes up quite often.
So seeing that stupid squiggly line under.
So I started digging around in the settings. Just I could not find the setting for the spell checker to select between British English and American English.

Click on “Plugins”
nppsettingslanguage

Click on DSpellcheck Then Click on Settings

spellchecksettingsnpp

At midway where it says “Language” click the drop down menu on the right and select the language you need.
If it is not listed then click on the button that says “Download Dictionaries”
And that should take you to

ftp://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/software/openoffice/contrib/dictionaries/

Now you just use the checkboxes to select the languages you want in your dictionaries.

How To Setup Speco Player on Android and iPhone

We have a Speco DVR and have set up our user names and ports and passwords for access with our iPhone or Android apps. We need to remember those setting for later. (if you scroll down you will see the settings I usually use, but you can use whatever you like)

Speco DVR

Set up modem/router firewall
Name your device name whatever you want in the modem . I use simple but identifiable names. DVR-1, and DVR-2 if there is more than one.
I use the same local i.p. addresses every time. Real simple ones too
Device name=DVR1
address=192.168.1.66
Port=5445
audio port will be 5446 automatically
Local port I select 8181

Device name=DVR2
address=192.168.1.77
Port=4554
audio port will be 4555 automatically
Local port I select 8282

You can use the same settings in the android/iphone.

Now download and install Speco Player.
The icon will be black, on both android and iPhone. I’ve only seen rare occasions where I needed any of the other speco apps. That has been a couple years now.

Android Speco Setup
Click on the Speco player icon to launch the application.
When the application opens, click on “Live view/Playback”.
speco_android-1
The next screen will just have demo settings by default.
speco_android-2
This is where your menu button saves your sanity. So click your menu button.

speco_android-3

Click the “Add” area on the left lower section.
speco_android-5
You will see the screen where you can type in the information you set up on the Speco DVR such as open ports and user name and password and either I.P address or DDNS.
I typically opt out of DDNS and use I.P. address. even when the location of the latest install is on a dynamic I.P. . I’ve seen issues with some ISPs with the DDNS needing authentication when the I.P. address changes. So. I still have to go back out anyway. and it can be time consuming to use the DDNS and get it accepted. Especially if the DDNS service is down, or malfunctioning, or slow to react. Don’t hand the I.P. address out to just anyone.

Name your device name whatever you want. I use simple but identifiable names. DVR-1, and DVR-2 if there is more than one.

You can use the same settings in the modem/router firewall.
Device name=DVR1
address=192.168.1.66
Port=5445
Username=admin
Password= whatever you gave it. Default is 1111

If you select to use Easy DDNS, just use that information instead of I.P. in the andorid app.

If you select to use Easy DDNS, just use that information instead of I.P. in the andorid app.

The settings on iPhone is pretty much the same but has a few variations. So let’s cover this
Setting up Seco player on iphone

Launch the Speco player app. you should see “Device List”

Speco_iphone-1

Speco_iphone-1

To add a new device to the list (DVR), just press the plus symbol in the top right of your phone’s screen.

This will take you to a page titled “My Site”
This would be where you type in your DVR information

Speco_iphone-2

Speco_iphone-2

again, “Site” could mean location or one of many DVRs at that location. That’s all interpretation.
When you have successfully connected your Speco DVR to your iPhone, you should start seeing video footage when you select the “live” option.

Speco_iphone-3

Speco_iphone-3

sometimes the site may have a camera out, or your app could load slowly due to internet speeds.

If you select to use Easy DDNS, just use that information instead of I.P. in the iPhone.

To Delete the Speco Demo Settings From an iPhone:
If you have been struggling to delete the Speco demo examples from your iphone I have a pretty simple fix for you.
Just click each demo in the settings and swipe the name to the left.
Demo 1 – swipe left.
You will see a delete option.

If you have the version (android and iphone) that does not have the plus symbol or add button. Just delete the demos and relaunch the app. It will force you to create a new connection.
once your new connection is added, hit the folder option in the corner.

Setting up Mercury Mail for XAMPP

Mercury32_46Been trying to set up mercury email for Xampp for a lot longer than I’d like to admit. Looked  at so many YOUTUBE videos of people just clicking away through the procedures of getting “local host emails to send and receive locally but have yet to find one that allows the emails to receive from external connection. Have managed to make the emails send  from within Pegasus but the recipient sees that my email has come from “truxter@localhost” even though that server has a domain name.

Have not figured out how to get Thunderbird nor outlook to connect though I think I am doing everything correct.

If anyone has any helpful sites they want to link to show me how to get Mercury mail server to connect properly, please comment the link below. and if you are looking for how to set up the email, scroll below, because if this page still looks just as confused as you feel, Means I can’t get mercury to work either.

How do you disable Facebook tagging?

Since Facebook does nothing to stop the sunglasses spammers from tagging you in pictures, let’s help you prevent getting tagged in things you don’t want to be tagged in. Because really, you can get tagged in other things that are really popular and your phone starts buzzing all day long over something you don’t care about. Neat…. a picture of a cheeto that looks like a belly button….

On right side of your screen click the padlock. a menu will pop up (see next image)

At the bottom of the menu click that spot that looks like a disclaimer but says “See more settings”
securitysettings

On left side of the screen click on “Timeline and tagging”
tagged
Next you will see “How can I manage tags people add and tagging suggestions?” look to the right and you will also see these three things:
Review tags people add to your own posts before the tags appear on Facebook?
When you’re tagged in a post, who do you want to add to the audience if they aren’t already in it?
Who sees tag suggestions when photos that look like you are uploaded?

Change those to what you feel comfortable with.
To allow no one to see what you are tagged in turn the first option on. That will prevent people from posting tags to your timeline. The next one if it is set to “only me”. Doesn’t allow it to get any further.
The last one set to “no one”, allows no one to get suggestions to tag you in pictures. This forces the tagger to have to type your name and purposely mean to tag you in a picture. Even though they see that you clearly do not want to be tagged.

Years ago you could tell Facebook to not allow people to tag you in pictures. That was removed when Facebook was working on perfecting their facial recognition software back in 2008 or so.
So don’t count on Facebook allowing you to block tagging.
