Reddit’s Current state of protest 7/3/2015

reddit_outrage
Currently Reddit is seeing a bit of a protest due to the letting go of a moderator in the Ask me Anything (AMA) section. Reddit let go of a moderator who’s name is Victoria.

Much of the protest is just bandwagon action from people who never even subscribed to the subreddit called ask me anything. The kids and adults who protest to whatever is being protested and many just for the laughs to add to the jokes. Which makes it look like this moderator is someone with a huge fan-base.

voat.coThere are many posts on Reddit saying they will leave Reddit for another website called VOAT.CO.  Which Voat.co seems to be currently suffering from the sudden influx of users and readers.  so the front page is a notice saying that Voat.Co is currently down.
Voat.Co is somewhat of a clone of Reddit, which actually got it’s idea and platform from people who jumped ship and left Digg.com. After Reddit copied digg, Facebook brought in the like button and never added a dislike . This is still a take from digg’s platform due to the fact that the more liked posts get moved to be seen by more people.

Nonetheless, Reddit’s front page is full of bashings while all of their subreddits have gone private and nothing is being seen by new visitors of Reddit.

In the end reddit is getting a nice flow of visitors and steady activity in protest to Reddit.

10 reasons people stick with Facebook

There are many reasons people do not leave Facebook or at least try other social websites. Such as Reddit or Google plus or even twitter. But the number one truth is, the deep down the most common is the #1 reason in this list.
I myself stayed for 8 long useless years but I did try other social websites instead of just Facebook alone. And ya know what? They all were fun. Especially during the boring times when no one posted updates to Facebook. Or during the constant bombardment of memes and no one actually talking. During the times of endless farmville and similar games invites.
I was always looking for a way out of Facebook. And well. Now that I am banned or suspended until I show them my i.d. (same thing for all I care, and yes they are requesting my i.d.) I feel less stressed out. I feel less fake. I feel less like I am trying to prove something.
I’m free really.

10. They use Facebook for specific reasons .
9. They somehow think Facebook is safer than other websites.
8. They believe Facebook is more than a chatsite because of very common features.
7. They have elder freinds who are hard to transplant to a new site and it would be hard to explain the privacy issues.
6. They have many pictures stored on Facebook.
5. They dont want to start their games over.
4. It is their home page.
3. They have already accepted so much privacy intrusion and don’t feel like giving up so much privacy to yet another website.
2. They can barely use Facebook and don’t want to learn a new site.
1. They don’t want to rebuild their fake freinds list again.

There are alternatives to Facebook. You just have to find them.

How Reddit is Manipulated

Reddit was a nice place full of what we considered opened minded people with open minded plans.
From time to time you could see a stubborn side to Reddit. When a group of people are on the wrong path with a story and if someone points logical answers to their slight misunderstanding, that person would most likely get downvoted and not seen. Of course their logic is not needed here.
But

This can be manipulated.
Like say, if you comment about a company that has a team of employees who scour Reddit ready to downvote any negativity mentioned about their workplace. Great for them right? The place they work doesn’t go out of business and they keep their job. but the sad fact is, if you are posting about a wrong doing from that company, your post will never be seen. And you will not be able to send out the first alert about a bad company.

Example 1:
If you comment anything negative about Comcast or Xfinity, you will get downvoted and disappear within mere minutes.
Here is an Ex-employee of Comcast trying to do an AMA (ask me anything)
Poor installation from Comcast. Compare the upvotes to the downvotes on the right
How to get even with Comcast
Caught injecting code in User’s traffic.
Caught throttling bandwidth for hulu and netflix. at least 7400 accounts downvoting this.
a Spoof account doing it for jokes but sets the idea that it can be done (read the comment after) Here’s his account how he hunts out Comcast posts to joke on them.
If you ask me how Comcast can do this… Well they have an endless number of I.P. addresses. use your imagination.

Example 2: If you create an original post that is worth being seen, either for humor or for art, if someone is logged on and has more than one account and each account is on a separate computer, using either some proxy service or some anonymizer type program, they could then downvote any and every post that isn’t their product they want seen, using every account they have and running down the list in the “new” section. and then turn and upvote their own and leave witty quips on their comments section, it looks 100% legit.
Sad part is, that Reddit is full of people looking for someone to relate to. and they all know that it is easier to survive that place if you go along with the crowd. No one but the new people will ever agree with you.

Here is an example of that happening
Screenshot of anyone speaking about the post… which is a video posted to YouTube in 2008
RedditScam

So in sum, if you do not speak great of the product, DOWNVOTE!. if you speak bad of the product DOWNVOTE!
If a person wants their product seen, they downvotes anything in the new section, and upvote their own. To ensure it works the way they want, they use lots of accounts to do this.

It’s a great way to push a product on you using the old means of television advertisements. “Everyone wants one, everyone’s buying these, you should to”. except now, you kind of get confirmation (as far as you know) that this statement is true.

Reddit is gamed.

Bill Gates Giving away $5000 to people on Facebook?

Is Bill Gates Giving away $5000 to people on Facebook?
I mean….. You saw a picture of Bill gates holding a sign saying that he will be giving $5000 to everyone who shares his picture on Facebook!!!!!

bill_gates_facebook_$5000

Sorry to tell you folks but you have been duped.

Do you know how many people have downloaded and re-uploaded that picture? There is no method known to man to find even 1/1000th of the people sharing that picture or even 1/100th of the people who have the picture in their personal albums.
Bill_gates_Reddit
The troll that is sharing that picture is currently at a few 40 thousand shares. The easiest way to tell it’s a troll, is the person sharing the Bill Gates (Facebook version) image personally are hostingthe picture in their photo album, saying “It couldn’t hurt” as if the way they are possessing and sharing the image is the same as just clicking the share button. Once a picture is in your personal photo album, it no longer adds to the count of the original image.

troll

troll

and to top it off, they make it so you can’t comment to warn others that it is fake.

The image originally came from reddit, where Bill just did an “Ask ME Anything” visit to let people ask what they want to, and he tries to answer all or as many questions as he can.

If there is any question as to which Bill Gates image is the original. See the little guys he drew on the Reddit version? Look at the one on the right. That is the icon of Reddit.com

Look behind Bill, there is a plush version of that little Reddit on the dresser.
There is a phallic Device that has been photoshopped into the background and the sign he is holding is clearly typed on top of the image.
See it’s shadow? now look at the image with the phallic (Gigantic plug), why does it have the shadow of the plush toy?
No Bill Gates is not giving you $5000 for sharing a picture.

Please share this post in the comments section on facebook when you see the fake one get passed around. not to call your friends stupid, but to stop this from being a thing.

Why do Videos Load Faster than Gifs?

Why do Videos Load Faster than Gifs?
Codecs. Compression/Decompression is further along for video. a Video is a frame rate of 30 frames per second while a gif is typical 2-4 frames per second for the better gifs. But this leaves for a very large file for your computer to open at a rate of two frames per second. a simple 7 second picture could get up to anywhere around 50 megs or more. While a 50 meg video at a higher image quality can get to 10 minutes (and still be under 50megs). A nice quality single frame gif image is usually up to 2.5 megs. Imagine having 4 frames per second of 2.5 meg images.

At one time, a video on a computer was unimaginable. most computers couldn’t handle it. So, all we had were gifs. Our monitors didn’t display much better than the lowest quality gif, so gifs were just like videos by those standards, only easier to open. but
The Gif was obsoleted when everyone started putting effort into compression/decompression for videos.

but now we have a new generation of computers and computer users. We have mobile device users with screens so small that a gif actually looks decent on them. To the old school crowd, this is horrendous. Simply because they have been down this road.

The whole reason people study “history”.. Is so we don’t repeat it. but oddly enough, it seems every generation wants to pick up the old broken crap and say “I like it, I don’t see why you don’t.. You’re dumb” or. .. standards and i.q. get lower with each generation. Which means my grandpa was pretty dang smart.

Here is a small bit of information
“On June 15, 1987, CompuService, the first major online commercial service in the U.S., introduced the graphics interchange format (GIF). According to a recent Daily Dot article, the first-ever GIF pictured an airplane.”
The word is actually pronounced like “Jif” as apposed to the sound “guh”sound at the beginning.

Codecs for video are better than LZW used for gifs.

Basically, gifs are obsolete files that seem to be a retro trend right now because tiny mobile devices have such small screens you can’t see the flaws in the picture (each frame is a separate picture, for better quality you add more frames) as well as you could if you watched them on your computer.

For a couple seconds of a watchable gif, it takes a whole lot of images that can be barely compressed anymore than they are already at creation before they look like garbage. This makes the file quite large.

Videos can decompress in segments, gifs have to completely download before they are fully watchable. Unless you want the slow-motion version first, while this big hoopty of a file downloads. because you don’t need a media player to run a gif = no pause button, no buffering, no skip.Gifs are either open or closed. They do not buffer the way you understand how videos buffer.

Don’t forget bus rate and processing rate of your video card’s processor and how much temp data your video card can store up per milliseconds in your video card’s memory.

It is my suspicion that the people who make these gifs from perfectly good videos that load and play faster, are the hipsters of reddit.

Example:
I saw it first, I saw it so first, I made a gif of it before you saw it and made you sit through a shitty gif before it got shared on your petty site. If you had faster internet, you would love gifs.

Best Websites for Current Events

Some days I just have no money to go out and have what some people call “A life”, so I look for things to do or read on the internet. Most often I find news, and then I try and find a place to talk about this news. some cases, you can do that, right there are the source.  Most of these news sites force you to register to be able to comment, or they make you link some other social website account so that you can comment, without a long registration process. In most cases, you link your social account, and you still have to sign up. That gets frustrating.

Reddit

Sodahead – Changed froma news site to something weird.

google news

yahoo – nope.. not anymore.

Slashdot

Can you add to the list ?

Is Reddit a Scam?

Someone found something happening on Reddit where mystery accounts make posts and then disappear, and top voted commenter accounts where created the same day that the original post was created.

Is reddit a scam?

This is Clearly an issue of a dude who wanted to get his video seen. The video could very well be fake. Maybe? bu the trick was to create a few accounts, upvote his video, get it viral. Make a few comments he came up with while he was editing the video and making the accounts. Made those comments for legitimacy reasons and then. Poof … instant money from Google adsense, via reddit.

The same issue used to come up on Digg.com. where only certain content could make it to the top and be seen by everyone, and all of the good stuff was getting buried

Is digg.com Rigged?

Review of Reddit

The purpose of this Review of Reddit is to point out the facts of Reddit.

Reddit is a website where anyone can create an account and add their two cents to thousands of topics. Part of the account you create, shows a point system called “Karma”.  When you post a comment, and someone does not like what you said, they can click the down-vote button and lower your Karma. and if they like what you said, they can click on the Up-vote and raise your Karma. Except.. It’s the internet. Full of lazy fat slobs who complain about having to click “one more click than normal” so the users never really click the upvote for something they like. They click the upvote for something they love. But yeah, the slightest sense of negativity, they will downvote you fast. People will go out of their way to tell you that you suck, no one makes any effort to  let you know that you’re “just okay”.

The better part of Reddit, just leads regular people to care about things they never knew existed. This leads people to donate for causes that actually matter. This causes a large mass of people to stand up for what they believe in.

What is another result of this? Well. To stay in a good reputation with the site (higher karma) You will adjust your statements to match the consensus. You will continually motivate the conversation into a positive path. Anything that goes against the conversation, instantly gets voted down. With every down vote, the comment becomes less visible to the public. And buries the statement. While all positive statements get moved to the top and more visible and more Karma is given to the comment maker.

Great plan. Right?

Here’s the flaw.
There is no outside voice. No one can add anything new to a conversation, or tell why or how the current topic is wrong or misinformed. New people come right out of the gun, getting down-voted. If no one can interject with an outside opinion, while everything gets more and more positive, you get a bit of a cheesy lame super nice mentality that is in the end, useless. Like the hipsters who crashed in on the occupy movement and ruined the whole thing (you know…. brought an apple store with them)Apple… good, Cause… good, therefore bringing apple to the stand in against big corporations must be the way to go….

In the end, to be the perfect person on Reddit and fit in with everyone and not get labeled spam, is you have to be an atheist, transgender, black lesbian woman who looks white and loves men, is poor but has a mansion and a car and a company, not eat meat or vegetables, be someone who will never have a significant other, but give great tips on how to pick up, and how to fall in love, and your cat (that you rescued from some place) has to stay a kitten forever.

I am none of that. Made two accounts and am in the negative Karma on both. because I have an original opinion.
I stand alone.

If you say anything that doesn’t pet the ego of the group conversation, you get labeled as someone who is saying what 200 others have already said. So to fit in, you have to say what everyone else is saying, or you will never be heard.

My Reddit Experiment

My Reddit Experiment will last for about a month or so. Since this is my last year to be on the internet, I will go out,  pushing a few envelopes.

My Reddit Experiment will be me testing the theory that positive thinking is the end result to an upvote society. No matter how wrong or right the positive thinking is.

I will just speak my mind in threads. I will not troll, I will not agitate I will not taunt. My goal is to show that Reddit does not take free thinking, though the members of reddit tend to call their selves free thinkers.

I will not use cliche statements that you see in every single thread such as “your logic has no meaning here” . I will not repost anything. I will be as original as I can think I am being. My end goal is to see what happens to my Karma, by just being me. Posting what I think. and responding with my true opinion. I do have a lot of opinions.

I am about to start an experiment to see if Reddit really is as open minded as it claims. by just having original thought in all responses and posts, to see if the public Karma focus keeps people from being realistic.

I have suspicions as to what will happen. Here are the odds I see of each.
Will get called a troll and treated as one – Most likely
Will be called a wise person – it could happen, but odds are pretty bad.
Will go unnoticed – it’s a 50/50 shot for that.
My account could get banned – It could happen, but I will not be rude enough for that. I will just post my opinions, go with the group or against it as the topic leads me.

What do you think will happen ?
