Diggnation calls it Quits

Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht call it quits.
Again.
So by the time one of the guys shaves their beard, the show will end and there will be no more Diggnation.
Diggnation was the forefront and pilot of internet media . This was the media that came from guys like you and I. This is a show from nothing that got sponsors by looking around the web saying “hey we get this many viewers, want us to mention you on the show??”.
Once Diggnation is gone, there will be no replacement. There will be no revival. because far as internet entertainment goes, nothing comes back to life successfully. and we lose interest and inspiration fast.

So.. farewell diggnation. I hope the rest of the crew at Revision 3 are smart enough to cut loss and sell everything to LEo from twit.tv while it’s still usable, and not wait until it’s worthless and bankrupt.
Tekzilla needs to be on the twit network.

So much for “new media”

Sanyo Zio Review after 2 Months Use

This is a follow up to the original review of the Sanyo Zio that I did when I first traded in my T-Mobile phone. I switched from T-mobile to Cricket.

After two months of using this device, I have to say that I am sure sick of shutting down programs so I can save the battery. Advanced task killer is a great program for shutting programs down. but there is no application that turns other applications off to stay off. So all of the apps on the Zio keep restarting just seconds after turning them off. The best way I know that seems to work. is go into the settings area of the phone, under Applications/ Running Services. Find the Application that keeps restarting and turn the thing off there. Why do they not make the programs any more with menu options to turn the apps off and conserve battery?
The touch screen is all over the place. Typing a message has become the longest, daunting task.
I have no resorted to getting a program called “Hey Tell”. Lets me record a short message and send it through internet. Works great on my wifi system. because I sure don’t get enough signal at home with this thing, to send a voice message.
Search opens everytime I do something that takes a lot of focus.
Sometimes it’s the web browser that opens. I have so much as held the thing with 4 fingers between both hands, so I knew I wasn’t accidentally bumping any buttons.
Everytime I pull down the top menu to get the short cut items of preloaded processes, the top slider gets stuck. The fix is to swipe again as if I hadn’t yet. Frustrating. Now I look like I have a scratch and sniff phone.
some useless apps that run all the time, you have to “root” your Zio just to disable them. and what I mean by disable, you have to remove the apps. Hope android market has the same apps, if i ever want to sell this.
Zio in no way compares to the G1. Google’s G1 blew the Zio out of the water, with older firmware and all.

I sure wish Google would pay more attention to Cricket and make something of them. Just a bit of a nudge with a handful of phones just for Cricket, would be nice. Like the G3 ??????

Review score:
6/10 useability
6/10 signal
9/10 appearance
4/10 battery life
3/10 ease of use
Full score is 5/10

The New Kindle Gets Praise

The E-Reader from Amazon The New Kindle Was launched. Today.
I am seeing posts from Kevin Rose, Mashable, Techcrunch, cnet, ZDNet all talking about the Kindle and how it is killing or taking the market.
If the new kindle isn’t evolved more than a plastic case, then … well it would look like somebody’s got money to throw in the air.
I hope the new Kindle does rock the scene, someone has to put Apple in it’s place.
Will Amazon make much profit from a world that have a lot of people who already have a device to download books to?
It seems the e-reader business would pretty much be getting limited by now. Considering the cost of this device that lets you read a book as long as your battery will last, and then the cost per book, no place to really put the thing when you are not in your car. the Kindle will not fit in your pocket. Most e-readers if left in your car stand reason for someone to break into your car. If you carry the kindle around with you, you stand a chance of crushing it. So I don’t see much reason that people would want a second e-reader. Sure it helps the environment and keeps us from using the scraps at the lumber mill to make paper from. but most people will first think of what effects them. Then again, many wont.
We shall see what happens in the latest e-reader race,

What about the Facebook Update

So. you lived through the Facebook updates, this far. i guess you did what I did. You waited to see if it gets any worse, before you found another social network to go to.
Now it looks like Facebook has paid off their typical bunch, to pretty much rub it in your face that you are a worthless zombie who will drone and trance your way into Facebook as they expect your addictive nature to do.
Well done Facebook. Well done.
So how do you feel about the new Facebook changes? Now that more of your privacy and personal information is compromised, leaving you nearly nothing left to keep your anonymity or personal privacy covered and secret and protected because you just about gave it all away, one bit at a time. The day you signed up, you gave Facebook the password to your email address. Your secret phrase was your mother’s maiden name, and you filled in your profile showing exact date of birth and city. Never once realizing that people have programs that can use less than that information, to get your social security number, but with what you have already given of just that, a 3 year old can guess your social security number. FYI, It’s in sequence, The kid born just before you in the same hospital, is one digit away from you. yep. that simple. Remember, the system back when that system was created.
But if you use an alias on Facebook, you are safe.. but really not everyone is wise enough to be David Johnson everywhere he goes on the web. Oh..and FYI. i use my real name on Facebook and G+ :-)
I just find it funny how Facebook cancels out the fake post about charging and in the same breath tells you how the cool features work now. So…. who really started the rumor?

How do you feel about Facebook’s new changes? Has the change to Facebook effected you yet?

Google to Drop Old Adsense Interface

The old adsense interface will be dropped soon. Yep that’s right, you will be shoved into the new one. Of course the new Adsense layout is quite informative and allows you to fine tune your Adsense ads, a little better. but the monitoring of page traffic is even less informative than the current, soon to be extinct page traffic.
You sure do get a whole lot more menus with the new Adsense user menu, but the question I have to ask is, why couldn’t they just ad the new to the old ? why drop what is existing and give us what is new and not have both? Just always seems fishy when we get shoved into acceptance like this. Somehow we just accept that things will never make sense and the lack of informative data replaced by bubbles and menus, is the rule of anything software.
Not saying I don’t like the new Adsense user interface, I don’t dislike it at all. Except for the traffic stats page just says “AdSense for Content” it does not show what ads, or where, while the old one already shows more information about site traffic, and well, that ones pretty slow too. but again, that traffic has to be verified and proven before it can count. And I completely get that. I think.

But . here’s the email I received today showing that the change is about to happen.

Hi,

Since releasing the new AdSense interface to all publishers, we’ve been continuously working to improve and support the new version. With that in mind, we’re writing to let you know that we’ll soon be retiring the old AdSense interface and asking all publishers to use the new interface.

If you haven’t already, we recommend switching to the new interface as soon as possible to familiarize yourself with the updated layout and new features. To do so, sign in and click the ‘Try the new AdSense interface’ link in the upper corner of your account. We understand that this adjustment may take some time, so you’ll still be able to toggle back and forth between the old and new interfaces during the coming weeks. You’ll see another notification in your account as we approach the date when this option will no longer be available.

As a reminder, the new AdSense interface offers additional insights in the form of detailed graphs and reports, new ad blocking controls, and increased efficiency through a visual redesign. We’ve now added many of your top-requested features — including the ability to create scheduled reports and view channels on the Home tab. We encourage you to watch our video tutorials at http://www.youtube.com/user/InsideAdSense#g/c/B067D355E59D96E0, which will guide you through completing common tasks in your account. You can also find detailed information in our Help Center for the new interface (http://www.google.com/adsense/support/as/).

With this transition, we’ll be able to focus on building new and improved features into the new interface more quickly. Thank you for your support, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation.

Sincerely,

The Google AdSense Team

Okay, can we go ahead and add the affiliate market to the Adsense account? why do they have to be two separate sites?
When you finally make the move to the new interface, go to the allow & Block ads, that is probably the greatest thing since advertisements on websites, ever began.
I do have to say they held onto the old interface for quite a long time, and that is more than fair of Google.
Maybe someof the features of the old interface just aren’t compatible with the new.

The Right To Wear a Mask

Wearing a Mask is done in many forms. It has been done for many centuries. and to many, it is held of great respect and Honor. The mask is just the simple act of hiding your identity. For security, or safety, or privacy.
Some websites seem to only allow people with real names, to participate in conversations on their website. I totally get the whole thing of not wanting people to just hide in anonymity to be jerks or trolls or irritants under 100s of accounts.
I myself have done many I.P. bans as a moderator on many websites. From forums to chatrooms. and when the person changes i.p. addresses and comes back, it takes me less effort to ban them again than it takes the irritant to change i.p. addresses. Right click…. done. And sure, it would be a whole different internet if everyone swiped their driver’s license on a machine and did a retina scan just to enter websites for particular needs. but what is the threat to security then?
There are reasons to not post your personal information out to the public on the WORLD wide web.
Ex cases:
A famous person can not just be a guy in a chat holding a witty conversation, being a regular guy without brown-nosers ruining the effect of just seeing people for who they are.
A person in a sweatshop for an seo company, doing link submissions, or something that allows access to the internet, will not be able to just log in and let people know where he is. His name hits the internet, his account gets deleted fingers get chopped off and now pedals a bike hooked up to the generator that powers the computers..
Did anyone see the news a week ago? They hanged them from a fricken bridge!!!!
Do you see all of the people who get their personal lives posted on the internet by hacker groups?
We all know the hacker groups are out to find someone who is directly, who is not innocent (for some crime hidden and covered up) and they are digging that person specific’s information, and we know the media is posting BS about what is really happening. But jeese if the Media was actually right. The internet is not ready for real names.

My mask is very old
It is so old that if in public a person yelled out my screen name, I would think they were talking to me. I would look.
I like the freedom and the leg room to let my words and emotions get saved and archived to the web, hoping to educate everyone on what I see and what I notice.

This of course is my declaration to G+ before they ban me for the name I have used on the internet including Google for many years. At least 10 years with Google on this account with this name the way it is. For privacy reasons. For my security and because it is what I am known by on the internet.

This is the gun issue. If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.
and your mask is your only shield.

Google Plus is Open to the public

Google Plus is Open To Public

Google Plus is Open To Public

After 20 Email Invites to Google Plus, it still says i have 150 G+ invites available, so, that pretty well means it’s wide open. Right?
Anyone who has been wondering what Google Plus was about, can go now and log in. Or create an account if you do not already have some sort of Google account.
G+ Seems like Facebook to me but with a a Google skin and Google twist.
Already Google+ has games on it. so….. we can already anticipate the zillion and one game invites and notices and updates for the first year.

Google home page has this annoying arrow on it that shows you the Google plus is active. I hope it stops soon.

Google+ seems to be a lot better than Facebook, Considering Facebook can’t keep your friends timeline straight wit hthe way everyone needs it. Facebook is doing this popularity thing. This means any post on Facebook that would be in your timeline that has lots of people liking or posting to it, then it is at the top of the list. Which leads to a potential for a lot of good posts going by being totally unseen. But then again, Google+ kind of does that also. but at least Google+ isn’t Facebook. I was getting to where I was considering going back to Myspace. I wonder what all of the tv shows and channels are going to do now that they have to add Google+ to their list of websites to talk about so they sound hip. Like Newsfix, they will be jumping on that bandwagon once they see people on their facebook account talk good about Google+. Hopefully Google plus is a bit less snobby.

Again there is very little “Social” to the current networks so just stumbling into someone you can strike up a conversation, is pretty much like we have been seeing . Can we get a chat and a forum added to this???
Sorry but my Google+ buttons on my site still need a bit of development so the links come out raw on Google+ showing an adverts image instead of the site’s image, but that should fix in time.

On a rating I have to give Google+
8/10

minus two only because not many people there yest and development is kind of a mimic of what is already existing in other platforms. only less advert focused right now.

WordPress Ifeature Theme Review

This theme has been the greatest them on wordpress I have ever used. Cyberchimps created the best theme yet.
but there is a downside. It is like the day after I posted on the cyberchimps facebook page, praise on how easy they made it to put ads at the top of the page, they sent out an update that killed the top banner option
version 1.2.1 allows you to put ads in. Version 2.0.5. does not.
IFeature Version 1.2.1 download can be found on WordPress website
The featured Articles option, though is a great concept, is a bit too tacky looking once activated. You can only activate the featured items option, if you pay for Ifeature.
Downside, is the upper banner area does not allow for a large banner. and it would be nice to change the color of the beam at the top of the page without having to use photoshop and they really could have repeated a smaller image for that. Would reduce that flicker when the page opens.
but, my over all score for Ifeature theme entirely:
9/10
