Old Media News and Social Networks

Old school news sources have consumed the social networks

When the news tells you what is currently trending on twitter. Check the sources.  Go to the trend page and see what the majority of the accounts that started posting (within the past couple hours)are. See if they are account bots. Programs that are created to post the same or a variation of maybe 4 different phrases, and then change to another bot account and make a same or similar post.
Of course it’s twitter and every “jet set” hipster will run to twitter and see this beginning  to trend, and they will make nonsense posts that they (the hipsters) feel relate to the topic and will post something about it for the laughs and popularity of being first.
but seriously people. quit letting old media tell you what is cool or popular.

Don’t trust reddit either. Same crap goes on there too.

They figured out how everyone chats on them. They brought in teams of people who have spent years on these sites and use it to manipulate trends with 100’s of accounts per intern/employee. These people are people who have been using those sites since they were kids, working for people who never actually had the time to study them. Sad part is, these kids will never get the job, because they need new fresh brains each year.

The Pirate Bay Talks SOPA PIPA

The pirate bay Released a message about the whole idea of Sopa and Pipa. This is exactly what I have mentioned before. but with better form than what I tend to write.
In sum, sopa is just to just to ensure the entertainment industry’s monopoly on entertainment media, by creating laws that prevent people from using a method of media distribution, than what they already hold the capitol over. We are not ran by a company, a company is funded by us, we like to have the option to say ” no the entertainment you offer us is not good, we are not paying for it” and if they need to up their game, they should. Because as a person who like a good movie, I will on any day pay to sit in a theater with a massive screen and an audio system I could never own or afford.
I don’t steal. and I don’t like paying for low quality agenda based, crap media.
From Reddit

INTERNETS, 18th of January 2012. PRESS RELEASE, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

Over a century ago Thomas Edison got the patent for a device which would “do for the eye what the phonograph does for the ear”. He called it the Kinetoscope. He was not only amongst the first to record video, he was also the first person to own the copyright to a motion picture.

Because of Edisons patents for the motion pictures it was close to financially impossible to create motion pictures in the North american east coast. The movie studios therefor relocated to California, and founded what we today call Hollywood. The reason was mostly because there was no patent. There was also no copyright to speak of, so the studios could copy old stories and make movies out of them – like Fantasia, one of Disneys biggest hits ever.

So, the whole basis of this industry, that today is screaming about losing control over immaterial rights, is that they circumvented immaterial rights. They copied (or put in their terminology: “stole”) other peoples creative works, without paying for it. They did it in order to make a huge profit. Today, they’re all successful and most of the studios are on the Fortune 500 list of the richest companies in the world. Congratulations – it’s all based on being able to re-use other peoples creative works. And today they hold the rights to what other people create. If you want to get something released, you have to abide to their rules. The ones they created after circumventing other peoples rules.

The reason they are always complainting about “pirates” today is simple. We’ve done what they did. We circumvented the rules they created and created our own. We crushed their monopoly by giving people something more efficient. We allow people to have direct communication between eachother, circumventing the profitable middle man, that in some cases take over 107% of the profits (yes, you pay to work for them). It’s all based on the fact that we’re competition. We’ve proven that their existance in their current form is no longer needed. We’re just better than they are.

And the funny part is that our rules are very similar to the founding ideas of the USA. We fight for freedom of speech. We see all people as equal. We believe that the public, not the elite, should rule the nation. We believe that laws should be created to serve the public, not the rich corporations.

The Pirate Bay is truly an international community. The team is spread all over the globe – but we’ve stayed out of the USA. We have Swedish roots and a swedish friend said this: The word SOPA means “trash” in Swedish. The word PIPA means “a pipe” in Swedish. This is of course not a coincidence. They want to make the internet inte a one way pipe, with them at the top, shoving trash through the pipe down to the rest of us obedient consumers. The public opinion on this matter is clear. Ask anyone on the street and you’ll learn that noone wants to be fed with trash. Why the US government want the american people to be fed with trash is beyond our imagination but we hope that you will stop them, before we all drown.

SOPA can’t do anything to stop TPB. Worst case we’ll change top level domain from our current .org to one of the hundreds of other names that we already also use. In countries where TPB is blocked, China and Saudi Arabia springs to mind, they block hundreds of our domain names. And did it work? Not really. To fix the “problem of piracy” one should go to the source of the problem. The entertainment industry say they’re creating “culture” but what they really do is stuff like selling overpriced plushy dolls and making 11 year old girls become anorexic. Either from working in the factories that creates the dolls for basically no salary or by watching movies and tv shows that make them think that they’re fat.

In the great Sid Meiers computer game Civilization you can build Wonders of the world. One of the most powerful ones is Hollywood. With that you control all culture and media in the world. Rupert Murdoch was happy with MySpace and had no problems with their own piracy until it failed. Now he’s complainting that Google is the biggest source of piracy in the world – because he’s jealous. He wants to retain his mind control over people and clearly you’d get a more honest view of things on Wikipedia and Google than on Fox News.

Some facts (years, dates) are probably wrong in this press release. The reason is that we can’t access this information when Wikipedia is blacked out. Because of pressure from our failing competitors. We’re sorry for that.

THE PIRATE BAY, (K)2012

Does the Entertainment Industry control us? or are they controlled by profits from us?

Diggnation calls it Quits

Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht call it quits.
Again.
So by the time one of the guys shaves their beard, the show will end and there will be no more Diggnation.
Diggnation was the forefront and pilot of internet media . This was the media that came from guys like you and I. This is a show from nothing that got sponsors by looking around the web saying “hey we get this many viewers, want us to mention you on the show??”.
Once Diggnation is gone, there will be no replacement. There will be no revival. because far as internet entertainment goes, nothing comes back to life successfully. and we lose interest and inspiration fast.

So.. farewell diggnation. I hope the rest of the crew at Revision 3 are smart enough to cut loss and sell everything to LEo from twit.tv while it’s still usable, and not wait until it’s worthless and bankrupt.
Tekzilla needs to be on the twit network.

So much for “new media”

Streaming Media Package

Ever just want to watch what you want to watch when you want to watch it? I do. I fell in love with Joost when it came out. Then some comic company or what ever that was, bought out Joost and crushed it. During that same time, HULU came out and became a sensation instantly. Forever I have been looking for a Hulu app for android. Haven’t found that yet.
Netflix, well netflix has been around for a good while now. I have not yet used netflix for anything. Simply because I haven’t see anything on their site that I wanted to download, that I couldn’t already get at HULU or Redbox. If redbox would stream, we are looking at a whole new mess.
Don’t get me wrong, netflix is an innovation and creativity that moves us into another direction, and I am thankful for what they are doing. Maybe I have just been using their site wrong? Do they have more than 50 movies? because that’s about all I see there. And they are all low budget films that I find. Why would I want that?
but if you are a Netflix user then My latest sponsor is going to be a treat for you. how about a device that you plug directly into your Television set, and connect to your internet connection, and get streaming videos from netflix, hulu, amazon, last.fm and other stuff.
Roku + Netflix = Instant Movies on your TV.Starting at $59.99 with 30-Day Money Back Guarantee.
I looked on their site and a lot of the stuff they list, kind of looks like a double listing of the same thing, just with the word “pro’ added to the end. Yeah that kind of makes my eye twitch.
But still the whole concept is pretty cool. If your tv can’t already do all of this. Many kind of can already. but again, if you don’t want to spend $700 on a 46 inch tv that can stream media from the internet, then get the roku box. If you don’t already have a netflix account, then you may as well go ahead and open the link I have over there on the side bar (the red ad that says netflix) in another tab and get that ready. Can’t hurt to set up for the free trial they have. and if you see they have more than 50 videos, tell me how the heck you found them.
The roku box comes in three flavors right now HD $59,XD $79,XS $99. Great prices. No clue why you would want anything other than the $59 player. For $100 it better comes with a TV tray and a remote.
From the look of the device, The roku box is small enough to fit inside a hollowed out grapefruit. That’s a kind of small. The look of the Media Streaming device is pretty slick. Currently the only color is black. I am sure it will come in other colors, once everyone knows that apple wont sue people for creating anything remotely close to their inventions. Oh hey I know what it looks like. The smokeless ashtrays of the early nineties. Just without all of the ventilation around it.
Looks like you can get all sorts of Media streaming to your TV. They call them channels, hmm I dunno, sounds more like websites to me. But currently it looks like about 12 “Channels”. This is a great way to watch internet videos you normally watch on your computer, straight through your tv.

Home Made Cloud Concept

The whole “cloud Computing” title seems to have changed recently. So Now I have come up with a low cost concept to cloud computing. A concept that avoids any server fees for what ever site you are storing your media on.
If you have a network at home, or at least a router at home and more than one computer on this network. Maybe a spare computer that is old, out dated and kind of useless for most of your common everyday uses, but has windows XP or better, this will work for you.
The low cost cloud computing Concept I have kicked up is, just share a directory to the network, set router to allow one specific port open, get winamp for your phone, have win amp set to connect to your home’s i.p. address. In the directory that has the shared files, also share your winamp playlist file.
Set phone winamp to connect through specified port.

i will have to get back to this concept later when I haven’t been drinking. If anyone with a positive comment wants to chime in. Please do.. It will remind me I wrote this (when I get the notification in my email).

Thank you firefox for the built in spell check.

Latest Build Your Own Budget Computer

Today’s build your computer special is across Fry’s and Compusa and Tiger Direct. I did the computer parts prices a bit higher saying “under” for a reason. I didn’t feel like doing the math for everything so I estimated the tax cost on most items. so go ahead and use my totals to get a ball park figure of what this computer will cost you. The main purpose of a computer build like this one is for a media center. Or I would have chunked in a DVD drive instead of the blue ray. I saw the blue ray player and price hunted to make the entertainment center computer work
To complete your system as parted, how about you make your own DVR from Knopmyth, and then just use the windows 7 as an addon and not a must have. This is better than a DVR and you can use the machine for more than just a DVR.

Blue Ray burner $99

4 gigs DDR3 under $40

Nvidia Gforce 250 under $85

EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti SuperClocked Video Card $119.99* After Rebate

Has Social Media Innovation Stopped?

Has the innovative race of creating the next useful social website come to a stop? why? and how long?
The last known Social site that has made an impact is over 4 years old. So there is no social site that has been invented or created, no idea has come to anyone’s creation table since 06. There have been evolutions and “reinventions” of websites, but nothing that can 100% be called creative or new. We have seen Social websites pop up that are clones of or hybrids of other websites, but that isn’t quite creation or new.
Twitter and Jaiku. That’s it. Jaiku is older than twitter. So Twitter it’s self is in theory a rip off of Jaiku. Before that was Joost. Joost of course came out with a messenger when it was first created. You would install Joost so you can watch movies on your computer, but there was also a movie voting system, along with the movie voting system there was also a messenger/chat system. So you could talk to other Joost users who are watching the same movie or tv show as what you are watching.
Today there is one. Only one social network out there that everyone still uses. That social network is the one that all tech people were certain would flop. Facebook. Facebook of course is the website that really wants you to only add people to your friends that you already know. Now that isn’t very social. Is it? It’s more of an address book. Some modifications to Facebook have allowed you to add more features and add more friends, and add annoying nagging video games.
We did see Myspace fall recently. We just saw Myspace build it’s self over again. But no one came to see the new place. The few that looked hated Myspace. because well, Myspace was over bloated.
Chatrooms are completely gone. Forums are all trolled up and spam flooded. Unless someone reinvented the chatroom, that venue seems to be dead.
Revision 3 needs what techtv had. A Live show that people could interact with. like Chris pirillo’s show. Live.Pirillo.com . That would save Revision3. Especially if they did this with diggnation. Maybe once or twice a month
Is communication dying?
If anyone knows of a new social network that seems to be ground breaking or potentially ground breaking, tell people about it. Post it here. I would love to try this social network/ social media.

Good Bye Limewire

Limewire has been ordered to shut down by a federal court.U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood.
Recording Industry Association of America – RIAA Headed the law suite.
Mark Gorton the Founder of Limewire has been pointed as the one person liable and accountable.

I have tested out limewire numerous times, and I have gotten many many of a virus using limewire

I could care less for limewire it’s self. but what it is needs to be protected from the vultures and the non tech savvy judges who listen to the lies they make up as they go. What this means is, the internet would still be on 56k if it was not for people who download free software and media. just as computers would not be where they are if it was not for computer video games, console gaming machines would not be where they are if it was not for the steady upgrades that gaming pc computers had to go through. Itunes would have never existed if it was not for limewire, kazaa and the like. if somehow Itunes existed on some magical conception, it wouldn’t have any competition and that of course reduces innovation and creativity. Itunes would be uploading one song per user per day and it would be the lowest bit rate possible. If it was not for people who used Limewire, got what they wanted as fast as they wanted yet with a few land mine virus files, Itunes would be all we have. There would be no choice, no selection, so we would be happy with what we get.
Many things were created because of the illegal methods of media transfer.
On that note
Let’s look at how much Itunes charges for one song
and then look at the cost of one cd that has 12-18 songs on it with hard case cover lyrics and the pleasure of a physical possession.
Compare the cost.
Now go ahead and research how much a musician makes per cd sale.
Now imagine that everyone who makes money for the cd manufacturing and all plastic parts involved Imagine if you could remove the all of that expense. Ask yourself… who is actually ripping off the musicians. If Itunes lowered their price for the transfer of music, the pirate sites would be useless. The people making a huge profit off of the musician’s work, or the guy who is freely getting something he wouldn’t have bought anyway, and his reception of said item did not take said item out of another person’s possession?
Like there is a stadium 6 blocks from where I live. They have fireworks that people pay to park on their lot and see. They have bands that people pay to park on their lot and listen. I walk outside and lay on my roof, watch and listen. I did not break into someone’s stadium and obtain these items freely. They are just in the air. Who has the right to say what is allowed on the internet?

Farewell limewire, one person here knows what you have done. One person has done more than act like a candy inflicted child with a new toy. I stopped, I analyzed and looked at cause and effect.  No one will notice what happens because they have nothing to compare it to. You will be missed.

Uselessness Of Social Media

Social Media has slaughtered it’s self . Basically consumed it’s self by putting up it’s own defense.
The world is full of spammers. We as writers do not like spam on our sites. So we no longer allow people to put up links in their responses to posts. No link in their signature. Even if the person wrote a great related content reply on our site, we do not allow him/her to link back to their website. I myself think that if the guy is on topic and his writing brought light on a subject, he deserves to allow people to read more of his content. As long as it’s tasteful stuff.
It’s not like you can’t tell a spam link in your screening directory. they typically look like this or something similar.
How this kills it is, well if a website does not allow me to link to my website where I have written a 4500 word article on the subject, I am sure not linking back to them where they talk about the subject. So you read my page and never know there is another that is on the same subject, and possibly conflicting my opinion and making good or bad sense.
These sites get either larger and bought out by bigger news/media sites or just completely crushed incredibility.
This is what social media is facing right now. They are attacking themself inward meanwhile are under fire by the chronicles/posts/abc/cbs and other news media .

You have to link up the little guy, the little guy has to link you up.
It’s what works
It’s what keeps the little guy concerned about your next statement.

Netflix and Godaddy

Should both Netflix and Godaddy really be crammed down our throats every time we boot up our computers?
Have you ever been to their sites?
Netflix, they sponsor every dang podcast I listen to and every online video I watch. (well not all but many). Have you ever looked at the shows they offer on Netflix? I mean even Redbox has a larger, better and higher quality selection than Netflix. I truly do not like Redbox. I stop there all the time, smear my snot on the screen as I flip through the first page or so of videos and walk away feeling ashamed I did it again. Heck the Redbox movies are just a dollar and I can get up, grab one movie and be back home watching it, before it ever even comes out on Netflix. If it shows up there. mean while you hog up all of the bandwidth using Netflix and your spouse is mad and your kids are mad.

Godaddy. You ever decide you want to buy a domain name? Ever find that someone bought that domain name but never did anything with it? Yeah that person is typically on Godaddy. It’s like everyone found a place that has a known name and decided to buy from there. Kind of like Walmart. Everyone knows it’s there and the people that shop there, have no idea why you call their stuff crap. Well the people who buy up domain names and do nothing with them are called “squatters”. That name sounds a bit negative, right? Of course it does. It’s meant to. I mean you have a great idea for that domain name and that jerk has 700 domain names and does nothing with them. One of his domain names you have a brilliant idea and are not able to use it now. Now your Websitedesigner dot what ever domain name has to be 1websitedeigner1 dot what ever is available.

Cool they have a domain auction section on their site. That just further provokes even more people to just buy up random named domain names and sell them at scary high prices. Meanwhile their prices are no better than other domain registrars.

Would be nice if the ads would just lay up or be in relevant media.

What’s more likely to happen, I will end up renting a Netflix movie and find a Godaddy commercial at the beginning. Or register with godaddy and find a netflix ad in some banner I can’t remove from my site.

Have a difference of opinion? Reply.
