Review of Reddit

The purpose of this Review of Reddit is to point out the facts of Reddit.

Reddit is a website where anyone can create an account and add their two cents to thousands of topics. Part of the account you create, shows a point system called “Karma”. When you post a comment, and someone does not like what you said, they can click the down-vote button and lower your Karma. and if they like what you said, they can click on the Up-vote and raise your Karma. Except.. It’s the internet. Full of lazy fat slobs who complain about having to click “one more click than normal” so the users never really click the upvote for something they like. They click the upvote for something they love. But yeah, the slightest sense of negativity, they will downvote you fast. People will go out of their way to tell you that you suck, no one makes any effort to let you know that you’re “just okay”.

The better part of Reddit, just leads regular people to care about things they never knew existed. This leads people to donate for causes that actually matter. This causes a large mass of people to stand up for what they believe in.

What is another result of this? Well. To stay in a good reputation with the site (higher karma) You will adjust your statements to match the consensus. You will continually motivate the conversation into a positive path. Anything that goes against the conversation, instantly gets voted down. With every down vote,the comment becomes less visible to the public. And buries the statement. While all positive statements get moved to the top and more visible and more Karma is given to the comment maker.

Great plan. Right?

Here’s the flaw.
There is no outside voice. No one can add anything new to a conversation, or tell why or how the current topic is wrong or misinformed. New people come right out of the gun, getting down-voted. If no one can interject with an outside opinion, while everything gets more and more positive, you get a bit of a cheesy lame super nice mentality that is in the end, useless. Like the hipsters who crashed in on the occupy movement and ruined the whole thing (you know…. brought an apple store with them)Apple… good, Cause… good, therefore bringing apple to the stand in against big corporations must be the way to go….

In the end, to be the perfect person on Reddit and fit in with everyone and not get labeled spam, is you have to be an atheist, transgender, black lesbian woman who looks white and loves men, is poor but has a mansion and a car and a company, not eat meat or vegetables, be someone who will never have a significant other, but give great tips on how to pick up, and how to fall in love, and your cat (that you rescued from some place) has to stay a kitten forever.

I am none of that. Made two accounts and am in the negative Karma on both. because I have an original opinion.
I stand alone.

If you say anything that doesn’t pet the ego of the group conversation, you get labeled as someone who is saying what 200 others have already said. So to fit in, you have to say what everyone else is saying, or you will never be heard.

Facebook Donations Hoaxes

Since these are making their rounds again, seemingly with the same people who shared them last year and the year before.
The people sharing the images saying that Facebook will donate if you hit like or share on a picture of someone suffering
They do it to get likes counts up and followers. so they can sell the accounts to spammers or use them for publicity and spam.
They are the scum of the earth and everything that is wrong.

They leave no link to the donation site so that you can donate in Facebook’s place. They tell nothing of the child’s well being at the current time or what country even this person may be in.
These are garbage and should be labeled as spam.

Facebook Donations Hoaxes are really getting out of hand.
The latest “share and like to save a life” picture I have seen:

A 14 years old boy got beaten half dead by his stepfather. His only fault was this that he tried to protect his little sister from being raped. Now he’s struggling for his life, but doctors say he won’t make it without a surgery. His mother doesn’t have money to pay it. Facebook donates 45cents for every sharing or reposing.
How well do these share donations work on Facebook? Do they even work at all? Nope.
Please help.

There are a few variations to the story but this is the only one I can find right now since I just saw it today.

This one says

For each share and like, her parents will get 3 cents. Please help them and share or like this post. Help Alexandria have a bright future.

It used to just say “When this picture gets 1000 likes”. That low of a number, tells you it was a child who had no idea how many people actually use the internet.
I’m paraphrasing, but it used to say something along the lines of “an anonymous donor will pay all medical bills in full when this receives 1000 likes” at that time it was at about 200,000 likes.
I assume they realized that was a low number and had to really crank it up to see how many people they could get to like and share the picture.
It is quite sick, because if anything came along using an even remotely similar method, no one will take it serious, or even, be so sick enough as being burned out and sick of sharing and liking, they won’t bother to help.

but the fact still stands. Anyone who says “Yeah, sorry kid, I am not going to pay your bill because you have no friends” would deserve to be outed by their town/city/village or what ever. because that is cruel and gross.
So don’t share these, and don’t like them. You will not be putting a life in danger. It’s just Facebook.

The person who is starting these is a sick individual and needs a real good kicking.

Surprised this isn’t used on twitter. Would spread fast. guess there’s no way to keep track of it on twitter.

What about the Facebook Update

So. you lived through the Facebook updates, this far. i guess you did what I did. You waited to see if it gets any worse, before you found another social network to go to.
Now it looks like Facebook has paid off their typical bunch, to pretty much rub it in your face that you are a worthless zombie who will drone and trance your way into Facebook as they expect your addictive nature to do.
Well done Facebook. Well done.
So how do you feel about the new Facebook changes? Now that more of your privacy and personal information is compromised, leaving you nearly nothing left to keep your anonymity or personal privacy covered and secret and protected because you just about gave it all away, one bit at a time. The day you signed up, you gave Facebook the password to your email address. Your secret phrase was your mother’s maiden name, and you filled in your profile showing exact date of birth and city. Never once realizing that people have programs that can use less than that information, to get your social security number, but with what you have already given of just that, a 3 year old can guess your social security number. FYI, It’s in sequence, The kid born just before you in the same hospital, is one digit away from you. yep. that simple. Remember, the system back when that system was created.
But if you use an alias on Facebook, you are safe.. but really not everyone is wise enough to be David Johnson everywhere he goes on the web. Oh..and FYI. i use my real name on Facebook and G+ :-)
I just find it funny how Facebook cancels out the fake post about charging and in the same breath tells you how the cool features work now. So…. who really started the rumor?

Google Adsense Goes Social

Google adsense will be rolling out new features. They will be adding a +1 for adsense for content Here is a letter from the adsense team.

The +1 button will begin to appear on AdSense for Content and AdSense for Mobile Content display ad formats — image, animated gif, and Flash. +1s will be one additional signal to help determine an ad’s relevance and we’ll continue to show the ads that will generate the most revenue for you.

We previously launched the +1 button on Google search and for publisher sites to make it easier for people to share and discover content across the web. Soon, your users will be able to endorse specific ads and make the ads more likely to appear to their social connections. We believe that these recommendations could help your readers notice ads on your site more, leading to higher returns for you over time.

Will this be in the ads? will this be in the menu area? are they incorporating the affiliate network to the adsense? (I kind of hope so) . If not will they be adding the +1 button to the affiliate network so we the site owners have an easier selection of ads?
Will the adsense team knock penalties to content owners who +1 their own products?
Not much to tell from that one email but are great things to consider.
Great idea to a point then it falls short when you realize how people can be.

The Right To Wear a Mask

Wearing a Mask is done in many forms. It has been done for many centuries. and to many, it is held of great respect and Honor. The mask is just the simple act of hiding your identity. For security, or safety, or privacy.
Some websites seem to only allow people with real names, to participate in conversations on their website. I totally get the whole thing of not wanting people to just hide in anonymity to be jerks or trolls or irritants under 100s of accounts.
I myself have done many I.P. bans as a moderator on many websites. From forums to chatrooms. and when the person changes i.p. addresses and comes back, it takes me less effort to ban them again than it takes the irritant to change i.p. addresses. Right click…. done. And sure, it would be a whole different internet if everyone swiped their driver’s license on a machine and did a retina scan just to enter websites for particular needs. but what is the threat to security then?
There are reasons to not post your personal information out to the public on the WORLD wide web.
Ex cases:
A famous person can not just be a guy in a chat holding a witty conversation, being a regular guy without brown-nosers ruining the effect of just seeing people for who they are.
A person in a sweatshop for an seo company, doing link submissions, or something that allows access to the internet, will not be able to just log in and let people know where he is. His name hits the internet, his account gets deleted fingers get chopped off and now pedals a bike hooked up to the generator that powers the computers..
Did anyone see the news a week ago? They hanged them from a fricken bridge!!!!
Do you see all of the people who get their personal lives posted on the internet by hacker groups?
We all know the hacker groups are out to find someone who is directly, who is not innocent (for some crime hidden and covered up) and they are digging that person specific’s information, and we know the media is posting BS about what is really happening. But jeese if the Media was actually right. The internet is not ready for real names.

My mask is very old
It is so old that if in public a person yelled out my screen name, I would think they were talking to me. I would look.
I like the freedom and the leg room to let my words and emotions get saved and archived to the web, hoping to educate everyone on what I see and what I notice.

This of course is my declaration to G+ before they ban me for the name I have used on the internet including Google for many years. At least 10 years with Google on this account with this name the way it is. For privacy reasons. For my security and because it is what I am known by on the internet.

This is the gun issue. If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.
and your mask is your only shield.

Google Plus is Open to the public

Google Plus is Open To Public

After 20 Email Invites to Google Plus, it still says i have 150 G+ invites available, so, that pretty well means it’s wide open. Right?
Anyone who has been wondering what Google Plus was about, can go now and log in. Or create an account if you do not already have some sort of Google account.
G+ Seems like Facebook to me but with a a Google skin and Google twist.
Already Google+ has games on it. so….. we can already anticipate the zillion and one game invites and notices and updates for the first year.

Google home page has this annoying arrow on it that shows you the Google plus is active. I hope it stops soon.

Google+ seems to be a lot better than Facebook, Considering Facebook can’t keep your friends timeline straight wit hthe way everyone needs it. Facebook is doing this popularity thing. This means any post on Facebook that would be in your timeline that has lots of people liking or posting to it, then it is at the top of the list. Which leads to a potential for a lot of good posts going by being totally unseen. But then again, Google+ kind of does that also. but at least Google+ isn’t Facebook. I was getting to where I was considering going back to Myspace. I wonder what all of the tv shows and channels are going to do now that they have to add Google+ to their list of websites to talk about so they sound hip. Like Newsfix, they will be jumping on that bandwagon once they see people on their facebook account talk good about Google+. Hopefully Google plus is a bit less snobby.

Again there is very little “Social” to the current networks so just stumbling into someone you can strike up a conversation, is pretty much like we have been seeing . Can we get a chat and a forum added to this???
Sorry but my Google+ buttons on my site still need a bit of development so the links come out raw on Google+ showing an adverts image instead of the site’s image, but that should fix in time.

On a rating I have to give Google+

minus two only because not many people there yest and development is kind of a mimic of what is already existing in other platforms. only less advert focused right now.
