Server Outages sept16-2010

I have been watching servers go down in waves since about 8 am central time. No info yet as to what may be the cause.
IMHO one hub/ major server is down and we are now being temporarily routed through another, and well now we are bottle necking.
but who can tell?
We shall see.

I do know that Internet is not down, just some locations can not be reached.
alexa servers just went down, twitter went down. but twitter could have been nailed by an influx of people saying “WTF?”.
Just saw facebook stumbled also.
Affiliate advertising company website Adbrite.com was down.
We at truxtertech.com were down for about 15 minutes here.

***added***
Well, so far there is no message saying what happened. Anyone know? I know this information will not help anything, other than make me stop asking “WTF”.

Halo Reach Out Now

Halo Reach looks beautiful.
Game play is epic Halo.
Few videos out already and a few people have actually stopped playing long enough to post. Will get back to you when I am done getting my adrenaline fix.
Halo Reach is just the way that Halo is supposed to be.
Sorry short post, but how long can you stop playing the game to write this ?
I mean there was no tragic dramatic change as it was hyped but it is still halo so it is a great game. This is the FPS game.
Sad thing is you know it will get FPS game of the year and we are in the 4th quarter of the year when it is released. There have been some great video games released already, so it kinda will be unfair. So far no bugs :-) keep gaming .

Netflix and Godaddy

Should both Netflix and Godaddy really be crammed down our throats every time we boot up our computers?
Have you ever been to their sites?
Netflix, they sponsor every dang podcast I listen to and every online video I watch. (well not all but many). Have you ever looked at the shows they offer on Netflix? I mean even Redbox has a larger, better and higher quality selection than Netflix. I truly do not like Redbox. I stop there all the time, smear my snot on the screen as I flip through the first page or so of videos and walk away feeling ashamed I did it again. Heck the Redbox movies are just a dollar and I can get up, grab one movie and be back home watching it, before it ever even comes out on Netflix. If it shows up there. mean while you hog up all of the bandwidth using Netflix and your spouse is mad and your kids are mad.

Godaddy. You ever decide you want to buy a domain name? Ever find that someone bought that domain name but never did anything with it? Yeah that person is typically on Godaddy. It’s like everyone found a place that has a known name and decided to buy from there. Kind of like Walmart. Everyone knows it’s there and the people that shop there, have no idea why you call their stuff crap. Well the people who buy up domain names and do nothing with them are called “squatters”. That name sounds a bit negative, right? Of course it does. It’s meant to. I mean you have a great idea for that domain name and that jerk has 700 domain names and does nothing with them. One of his domain names you have a brilliant idea and are not able to use it now. Now your Websitedesigner dot what ever domain name has to be 1websitedeigner1 dot what ever is available.

Cool they have a domain auction section on their site. That just further provokes even more people to just buy up random named domain names and sell them at scary high prices. Meanwhile their prices are no better than other domain registrars.

Would be nice if the ads would just lay up or be in relevant media.

What’s more likely to happen, I will end up renting a Netflix movie and find a Godaddy commercial at the beginning. Or register with godaddy and find a netflix ad in some banner I can’t remove from my site.

Have a difference of opinion? Reply.

The MUST HAVE App for Android

I personally have a G1. The G1 phones have probably the sorriest battery life. In less than 4 hours, my battery is usually at  1/4 capacity. This means when I go to lunch at work, G1 is on the charger in the car while I eat lunch. This means 0% of my work day involves using facebook. :-(.

I have done everything I could to reduce battery usage. but this story isn’t all about my phone.

I found (from a lady at my job) Advanced Task Killer. You can find the actual app in the Android Market. It’s free and very useful.

Just install it and open your menu bar. Once you click on Advanced Task killer the first time, it should for ever be in your bar at the top of your screen (if you have a g1 like ) do still running the 1.6 firmware). As soon as the program opens the first time, you will see a list of apps that are currently running. Un-check the ones you do not want to disable (may I recommend you do not kill ATK?). If you must disable Advanced Task Killer, I would like to take the time to suggest that you go back to your main screen, press down in an empty space and just wait there with your finger on the screen. After a few (2-5) seconds you should get a pop up. This pop up will ask you what you want to add to home screen. Select “shortcuts”. There will be a second of things to select from, chose applications. This next menu will be in alphabetic order, Select Advanced Task Killer. This will place ATK on your Home Screen.

I myself create folders and separate my apps by placing them into specified folders. You can rename your folders by opening them and pressing in the folder with your finger and hold there for about 5 seconds or less. You will then be prompted to rename the folder.

Only downside, is the programs keep re-opening and you have to keep closing them. and every time you turn on the light to use the app, you run the battery down a bit more.

So for the battery saving Android application that you MUST HAVE, Get Advanced Task killer.

GOOGLE BALLS

Yesterday, Google slowed down productivity in every office around the world.
How? they altered their home page so that if you brought your mouse over the Google logo, it would shatter the logo into a bunch of colored balls.

It was to get attention so they can announce that they have an announcement coming.

Neat…………..

To bad all it did was give our salesmen something to dingle with while they were on the phone.

Google Revealed

Google is in control of plenty.
Email,
Phone,
Internet,
Web browser,
Operating System,

Google could be doing anything with the information they are capable of having. It is your blind faith and your imagination that tells you what Google will or will not do with this information.

Get a “Do Not Track Registry” Is the goal of this campaigne. But this really sounds like more confinement.

How about not forcing the government to regulate anything.

How about we just make the information these advertisement companies are requesting, unavailable to them.

They call that stuff addware and spyware.

Get your hosts file correct and empty your cookies and the information they request is cleared right back out.

This video actually looks like someone trying to make Google trip and scuff a knee so they can attack Google while they are down.

Mashable Poll Does Not add Up

On the Mashable website reading the poll results for Mashable’s poll on New digg Verses old digg.

A few things just don’t add up,

Mashable Poll

Stare closely When you see it. Keep looking there is more.

They say that old Digg won, but it shows old Digg got only 4 votes but is 78% of the poll.
IMHO, They don’t like Digg’s ability to steal traffic, or the traffic Digg stole a while back..

Why do I say this?
because if you tilt your head to the right.

The poll looks like they are flipping an FU bird.
