The Facebook Scam

Warning to all on Facebook who share their phone number to friends and friends of friends.
There is a current scam on Facebook where guys are adding hundreds of thousands of people a day and collecting their phone numbers and what ever personal information they can about them. Real names, date of birth, city they reside in. They then read their wall for who they interact with the most that lives with in the same general area. They then call one of the two or both and say the other got a loan and used them as a reference. They then force the person to pay them what ever total is owed, or a reduced amount. They next wipe out that person’s credit card with a series of $1 $10 $100 $1000 charges until the victim is busted.
Some people have so much as give up bank account information and or used a debit card for the transaction. One lady who’s daughter got her on Facebook was wiped clean, because she thought her daughter was in trouble. The scammer went on to try the scam with the rest of her family. By the end of the day, the scammer called everyone on her friends list. If you get the “payday loan” phone call or “Bureau of law enforcement” phone call to collect some money from you that your friend owes, do not confirm knowing anyone they talk about. In fact, claim that person is deceased if you have to. But avoid knowing them at all. Contact your local authorities and explain the situation. Next call all listed friends and family on your Facebook account and tell them all to not share their phone number to “friends of friends”. Also warn them the call should be coming to them next.
It’s not Facebooks responsibility to make you think about safety. Although it is their location that you are at risk, but you could never prove it was because of Facebook that you got scammed.
By all means, DO NOT LIST THE PLACE YOU WORK. If you have that only visible to the people you know……. Um…. they already know this.

Facebook Trend Slaughters Search Engines

Looking on Alexa.com’s “What’s hot” page you see what the current internet trends are.

if you are a Facebook user, you know that right now everyone is complying with the latest trend of changing your Facebook photo to a cartoon character of your choice. The object of this is to not pick the same cartoon character anyone else uses. So people are searching for images steadily and contsantly.

Here is the current most searched.

Alexa What's hot because of Facebook

And here is a brief explanation of how to play along. facebook end of the year photo.

I have not yet seen a Voltron or a superman, nor a HeMan for that matter.
But hey, a facebook Cartoon Doesn’t have to be the coolest.

I am personalizing my Facebook Cartoon Profile picture.

Superman Over Houston

FACEBOOK Privacy Issue yet again.

FACEBOOK Privacy Issue yet again.

Got this on my Facebook account today. From one of the less techy people on my friends list.
They talked about this coming for some time. Well it’s here.
Privacy issues.

FYI: ALERT* As of yesterday, NEW PRIVACY setting called “Instant
Personalization” that shares data with non-Facebook websites and it is
automatically set to “Enable.” Go to Account >Privacy Settings >
Applications and Websites >Instant Personalization > Edit or
customize Settings, and un-check “Enable”. BTW, if your friends don’t do
this, they will be sharing information about you. PLEASE
POST THIS TO FACEBOOK

One of the downsides is this can and probably will lead to many accounts getting stolen once this is exploited by the curious.
Another thing is, your friends might not fix their stuff because they aren’t worried about it.
Ever get that phone call from a fake debt collector who actually names people you know?
It’s easier than most people think.
There is a scam going on where some people are Calling people and saying that you have a friend who got a loan and used you as a reference and they even say your friend’s name. They tell you that you are responsible for their loan and debt. How do they get your friend’s information? how do they get your name ? How did they get your phone number ?
Look at your privacy settings on facebook. You most likely have your phone number visible to everyone, or friends of friends. All they have to do is get your friend to add them. Then they dig through their friends and see who’s phone number is showing. Another scarier one is they tell you that you got a loan and they mention your friends and family members if you have them categorized.

People, Facebook is not holy ground safe from the evil. Yes you had more safety on myspace. More spam on Myspace, but that is slowly changing now… Isn’t it ?

Look, it’s not just your safety and security and privacy, it is your friend’s safety and privacy. If you feel that it’s just paranoid blah blah, at least change your settings for your friends. but truth is, in the end, you will never know it’s your fault.

Facebook Email Coming soon

Facebook Email Coming soon

Is the latest rumor of Facebook.

Facebook Now owns FB.COM. FB.Com is said now be the server of Facebook email. So soon you can your email delivered to yourname@fb.com.

Some people call this the Gmail Killer. Right now as it stands, fb.com redirects you to Facebook.com and if you type fb.com/yourname your browser will direct you to your account profile on Facebook.com. Great work on the Facebook team’s part covering that base.

Right now the whole Facebook email is just speculation and theory. To me it looks like the Facebook team is saying ” Screw you” to Google because they are large enough to not care if Google frowns upon multiple domains pointing to the same website. I really do not see the whole Facebook email thing happening. I would more suspect they will create their own search engine and go after Google that way. I don’t see that being very effect just as I don’t see Bing being very effective, unless they create an affiliate program so people can embed the search into their personal websites, I mean who would be so goofy as to want to put a search on their personal website, for free? Especially when Google pays you for that same act ? Google has it right.

But again, for now, all it looks like is that Facebook is making it even easier for people to use Facebook. And it could reduce the number of people who open a browser, click in the search bar (yes search bar, not the address bar) and type Facebook.com then click the top link in their search. but again, that is only speculation.

We will see what comes of this.

New Myspace is Released in Beta

Myspace now has a bit of a better looking code, up andĀ  working. You can still decorate your background, but in all, the interface per user is 100 times better than before. Myspace still has the media players we all loved and wished that facebook would start. Myspace has now added a “Like” button that everyone loved from Digg.com, and all of the techies know that facebook completely ripped off from digg.com . Myspace now has a “Discover” button . And that my friend if you don’t try that button and you still think that facebook is better and a better social network, then you my friend do not understand the word “social”. Myspace lets you discover people. Facebook allows you to add people, who were already your friend.
Myspace is doing it right this time, they just need a mess load of popular actors and singers saying how cool it is, before the trendies even begin to consider it.
Their EULA is there for everyone to read so you know what your privacy is.
What would be nice for Myspace about this time is give everyone on facebook what they have been wanting. Give everyone a dislike button . *1

Let’s see what I do not like.

I don’t like how I can’t ignore bulletin posts from games. This needs to be fixed. The site feels a bit clunky and bloated, so they need to see what does not get used much and yank that out, so the pages load a bit quicker. I would love to see apps like news ticker on end user side, not profile side. I mean that can strike up conversations. Notifications are hard to find, but it’s the flag at the top.

All fair play I gotta giveĀ  Myspace a fair score while it’s in it’s first release state.

page load 7/10

looks 8/10

usability 9/10

interface 10/10

creativity 8/10

Final Score 8/10

and that’s pretty dang good for a beta on day one.

*1

(Ignore) so you can vote stuff down from it’s glorified position of a perfect score. See people on facebook create these pages and live by the fantasy that they are making a point because 2000000 people like their cause, but what if we could “dislike” their cause and show a full on democracy with this thing? so those who create a cause and preach it all day long until the veins in their neck collapses, can see that more people dislike their cause. That’s what Myspace needs. Get a full on vote system and let the Hipsters see why it is good to allow people to vote. You sure won’t see politicians getting on there. Even better if Causes could be categorized. ok enough about what should be.

Facebook Accounts getting Hacked like crazy

Today I have seen 4 Profiles get hacked on Facebook.
I posted a month ago Warning facebook dislike button fake.
For one thing y’all. That dislike button looks like crap.
But still, I saw Starbucks get it’s account spammed from. and I have seen multiple females get their account scammed and spammed.
People stop clicking links in Facebook please. This isn’t 1995. We are not that vulnerable still. Right?
People. Please, For the love of common sense, do not click the fricken links for a little while, unless you know the website is safe. See these links will be coming from people you know, who have had their account hacked. You will not know it was hacked because it looks like a funny or a clever post, or it may look totally out of character, of course in that case you would be certain to see what the heck the post is all about. STOP.

If you did click the links, you need to run a virus and malware scan. and please contact the person who owns the profile that just got stolen and tell them what to do.

You people act like this AOL’s version of Myspace. and well. It shows that you do not internet very well.
and now your Facebook account is stolen.
Go change your password while you still can, and send out apologies like crazy. it’s like dating, if you get cooties you must tell everyone that could have been infected. Or they wont have a fighting chance. because if it’s a virus, their bank accounts can get wiped out, if the spent any money on Facebook games and this thing has their password, it’s over for them.
Facebook is not fort Knox.

Things Facebook Needs

Hey, great place. Facebook is free. I know.
But it isn’t a perfect place.
at first I didn’t mean to log into Facebook and rant to my friends about what I think the place needs. Every single day.
It just happened. Facebook fricken screams for me to notice things about it. some of the things I rant about on Facebook are just jokes and staying with my typical theme. So without further suspense about how I feel about Facebook.

Facebook needs

Facebook needs a media player so I can set my own playlist of crap I like so my friends get a chance to sample it as apposed to flooding up the screen with youtube videos… because … well.. that’s pretty much all you got.
Facebook needs ignore a link. If you keep getting the same link from all of your friends and you do not want to ignore your friends 1 by 1. Would be nice to ignore that link.
Facebook needs a fricken time line. I hate logging in to see the crap I saw yesterday. Every post is 17+ hours old. I have to wait 17 hours before I can see what is going on right now????
Facebook needs a thumbs down button. Really you have to check your friends from time to time. If you constantly post only the positive in anything. Well for one, you are a froot! and mainly you do not point out the flaw in their theory. You do not prevent your friend from jumping in a bear cage, just because they like animals, and think the whole world should be more loving.. KINDA like This.
Facebook needs to get rid of that stupid bar at the bottom of the screen. We hated that bar when AOL forced it on us, we hated that bar when netzero forced it on us. We hate that bar.
Facebook needs in the idea of the bar at the bottom, How about private chatrooms that only our friends and their friends can go in. or something like that.
Facebook needs to actually be social. Nothing worse than trying to meet someone and getting a pop up saying ‘ do you really know this person???” how is it social to only meet people you already know ??????

Well I’m out of stuff for now. You can leave ideas below. Comments are open.

Mark Zuckerberg Rumored Buying Myspace

Story is that Mark Zuckerberg is buying Myspace.
I don’t see it happening. I see the chance that Mark and crew might implement even more stuff like Myspace content to their site, but not a buy out.
but the rumor says that Mark Zuckerberg and crew are going to bring it in, all Myspace links will still work, and there will be a slow gradual change of advertisements from Google adsense to the Facebook platform of advertisements.
Also within this rumor is the chatrooms will be brought back. Your existing Facebook profile and Myspace profiles will then merge, you have the option of which one . I doubt that. I see Facebook not wanting anything but their own.

I personally would like to see Myspace buy out yahoo or merge with Yahoo. and run Yahoo advertisements. Have you ever seen Yahoo’s chatrooms? Spam farm. They have no control of their own network.

I would also prefer to see MSN bring back their chatrooms and work more on their Myspace killer (lol) they started but never completed.
I would also like to see aim chat (or what ever in the heck aol used to have for their chatrooms)get in on this deal and use their servers or what ever is left of them

The more the choices we have, the more innovations we have and the more freedom to choose what network and what abilities we want to use and have. As of now there are still a few social sites that are sitting stale. Why not move them all up?
What social Changes would you like to see ?

Warning!!! Facebook Dislike Button – Fake

This is sort ofr old news but I have some slow friends and I know you do to.
So when you run into one, send them a link to here.
and just to make it so you don’t look like a jerk for sendingthem here, smart people need this information!
There is a link to a “facebook dislike” both website and a button.
They are both fake and do not do what you want them to do.
Here is an old Mashable link that explains the situation better.
Facebook Dislike button is fake.

So if you do not wnat your account spamming something out that is below your taste, and making your om, granny, ex-boyfriend think something about you that you do not want them to think about you.
Don’t think there is a new “Dislike”
It’s not real unless posted on the front page of facebook..

It’s just as much a fake as the old myspace gimmick “see who is reading your page”.
So many people fell for that vanity scam.

Facebook Friend Request Ignore

Facebook has removed the Ignore option from the friend request area. It seems they have not set it to “not now” I assume this means it’s so you do not block the person completely but allows you to come back and add them later or lets them atleast talk to you . I have found that if you click the post that says ” you selected not now” somewhere near there it allows you to prevent the person from communicating with you ever again.

Since I get pretty foul on my other website, and I allow it to auto post on my facebook for my friends to see, I do not need minors or weak hearted people seeing my posts. I tend to rant there and well, it is not there for the pristine. I am not out to offend people with that site. otherwise I would just every single person on Facebook.
So this is a great option. Three selections/ Choices are better than two. most of the time. In this case. Three is better.
