Java 8 not compatible with Windows Xp

java-8_xp
Xp users, your days are numbered.
You will soon be finding more and more software not working with your computer.
This being said, I have to say the most taboo statement in computer Tech world…. Probably a good idea to stop doing updates to items on your Xp computer.
Java 8 installation now tells you that is no longer compatible with your operating system but still says “if you wanna try it go ahead, don’t blame us though” in a round about way.
To be exact:
Java 8 requires a newer version of Windows. You may continue with the installation, but for Java to work as specified we recommend upgrading your operating system. Please refer to http://java.com/sysreq

Something tells me it will be just a year or two before we start getting this notice on windows vista and windows 7.

Photoshop CS2 denying administrative privileges

I haven’t shared the How to tip, here for quite a while. But as an adobe CS2 user for ages (and happy with it) I have to share my frustration with getting cs2 to run on Windows 7.

I tried forums, I tried calling Adobe. I tried all that I can think of (below is the fix). In the end, when I figured out the solution, Adobe told me “We no longer support this product so we will not bother with this tip” (actually paraphrased, not a real quote).

Hope this helps you With your Photoshop Error Message.

Photoshop CS2 denying administrative privileges

You are not allowed to continue because your account does not have the proper privileges.
I have just installed Adobe Photoshop CS2 on my Windows 7 Pro 64 Laptop.

When I try to run Adobe CS2, I get a message in a window titled “Adobe Activation” saying: “You are not allowed to continue because your account does not have the proper privileges. Please log in using an account with administrator privileges and try again.”

I am logged in as an administrator and have installed all my applications using the same login. Though the version I have installed is not yet registered, I am unable to even get to the registration screen as once you click OK on the dialogue, Adobe Photoshop closes.

Here is a fix:

Open windows explorer and go to “C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2” directory; Find the Photoshop.exe and right click on the highlighted file name and Left click on Properties. Click on the top Compatibility tab. Under Compatibility check the box to “Run this program in Compatibility mode for” Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and click OK. Double click and Open the Adobe Photoshop shortcut. skip registration for now. Proceed with registration. Adobe updater will come up with an error but the software will run fine.

Windows Xp Service pack 4 Please

Microsoft should put out a service pack 4 for windows xp.
A service pack that turns xp into any other operating system.

computer locked up

windows xp locked up

XP is the biggest failure of all Microsoft’s operating systems. I have spent countless hours looking at a computer screen doing exactly what that screen has on it. yep. Matching the win screen of solitaire.
Problem is, they listened to the hackers who griped about the flaws in the operating system. They listened to them so much, Microsoft lost site of the plan. Microsoft started fixing and patching and correcting the noted errors, instead of fix and patch function and appeal.
Truth is, if there is a hacker, there is a flaw. Not the other way around. If the computer tech dude, that is digging around, is techy enough, he will always find a flaw. All I.T. guys know that all I.T. guys think the other guy is an idiot, and they will dig for hours to prove it.
So Windows XP, stayed a hot wet steamy lump of of memory dump for how many years? Way to long.
Yet here I am, in an office that uses nothing but windows XP because some retarded guy who’s mom was best friends with the boss’s wife, has it installed on every single computer here. Can we safely tell the rainman “If you didn’t have such a learning disability, nothing would be backward designed here, please evolve us” ? or do we just keep saying “yes you are so smart, look at you.. You won that conversation. Loo at you… good boy”. Or should we pull out all guns, drop our modesty facade and humble this idiot?
Nope we just sit here and wish things were different.
Microsoft. please for the life of anything sane offer an optional service pack 4 that we can 4 dollars for and let the update turn us into windows vista.
Oh and I want my fricken progman back, If you bring program manager back, I will gladly fall in lust with (code name) windows 8 .
Nothing like turning off all themes and explorer.exe and running on multi cores and using almost no resources.

plan service pack 4 in request.

Latest Batch of Updates from Microsoft

WHAT IN THE BLUE HECK DID YOU DO TO SERVICE PACK THREE? SERVICE PACK THREE KILLED PROGMAN BUT TO DEAL WITH THAT I ACCEPTED THE SPEEDS YOU GAVE ME NOW YOU TAKE AWAY THE SPEEDS? I NEED PROGRAM MANAGER BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well looks like we are being herded even more into a “one button and enjoy only what you get do not complain even though you pay $400 for the software” kind of world. because now windows Xp is completely unusable.

I have automatic updates turned off from here on out and a I will not be installing any more and I am uninstalling all of the latest patched software. sorry but I refuse to listen to all of the falling sky war cries m$ screams in the try to make us all move to the windows 7 world. Yes I have seven at home but our IT guy here at work is afraid to evolve so I have to work with what I have.

Patch Tuesday 10 5 10

Useless I tell you.. Useless
Well enjoy your patches, while I patch my peice of junk xp machine at work (actually good computer but our “IT guy” is afraid to evolve) and reduce productivity.

Divx sour note

On at network of 32 computers at the office, on a network of 6 computers at home. I get the same results.
Divx starts and plays a full movie on first use. Then from there on out, hang up. Two dell computers with vista 30 computers winxp. One custom build windows seven, 5 computers vista.

Solution to prevent the hang up, right click media select item to open with. I choose win media player. I selected the “always option”.
I also installed xvid codecs to ensure no other issues.

Problem solved. Now none of the employees come to me to solve the stupid issue. Other than the few that figure since I am I.t., it is my duty to re-write the code so they can use the media player of their choice.

XP Update KB977165 Crash Pc

just thought I would let everyone know, that some windows XP machines after installing the update KB977165 released February 9th 2010 will cause a BSOD on windows XP with the stop message STOP Error 0×0000007E. Its unclear whether a Malware infection has to be present on the machine to conflict with the update. Haven’t gotten that far yet.

Some say the patch issue is on computers already affected with the issue that the patch supposedly resolves .  I know that at work, we had a series of computers that would not boot properly. Many of them showed would run really slow or not access our network ( may not be related stuff but timing is right)

This guy gives a smaller version of the fix, I think I have to go through both of them and see what one works. Oh BTW did I tell you my mother’s pc is BSOD ?

We’ll have to walk around the office and run the patch fix when it comes in, because man….. the people at work sure do surf like madmen.
They just click anything and everything like they have nothing to worry about. Guess that’s like job security for me.

Explorer.exe Is now windows Explorer

Noticed this at work the other day.

Now if you go to cmd and type in explorer.exe it pops open windows explorer. for ever that has been the trick to get your task bar back. now it does not. It just opens windows explorer. so if you get a crash and lose your taskbar, you must reboot. Or figgure out what in the heck the taskbar is now called.

I assume this is a follow up to removing the progman.exe functionality.

See my trick for ever was to change my start up and replace the registry line from startup/explorer.exe to startup/progman.exe.

This reduced teh amount of resources my machine used, back the day when windows ran like crap and computer parts where crap.

This is teh same on xp sp3 , windows vista, and windows 7

I have no idea when or how this all came about. but i noticed it at work while over a span of 4 days I had different co-workers come to me and say “hey I lost my taskbar” we had to reboot them all one by one to get the task bar back. because typing explorer.ese solved nothing.  it’s like an auto update or a strange mass virus ?  I feel like I am being tamed by m$

Working On “Her” Computer

Well it seems the lady has come into a few cooties.

She has an xps m1210 laptop.

Since neither of us know just how long the stuff has been on her machine or where or how they all got there, I believe it would be in her best interest if we just back up everything that is important and whip out the reinstall discs. Easy? lol. Newp. No chance. Seems back when she got the computer she lived elsewhere with someone else and obtaining the drivers discs and o/s and all teh bundled software discs had to include a spy. Her little sister had to sneak the border and play friendlies… Now she snuck out with the baggy thing that all the discs are in which of course no one there claims to have seen. We have done some searches and find that one disc on the bag, is not for this laptop that we are about to work on. Ok. Now we have all the discs.

The hard part is deciding what to do after we install everything and well, does the sister go back and act like nothing happened? ( I mean this is a close as family issue, I am not in the family so I have to step back) I am thinking of burning the discs as a back up and bundling some jacked up progs with it.. but will they hate me for it?

well whatever

Ok So now the back up is not going so well. I have been to virustotal ,virscan.org and jotti’s a million times and man, I keep finding malware in everything she wants to backup. I am half tempted to just format and cross my fingers and lie like a dog. I am getting sick of each time they find stuff in the files I end up having to delete them anyway because they are beyond repair. Meanwhile I have a million more files to scan…one by one….. It’s hardly worth it. Then again she is fricken hot and I know what I am doing.
Well I also looked around and saw that ubuntu installs pretty good on this particular model. If I can assure her that open office is just as good as microsoft office/works then I got it made! I wouldn’t have to delete anything!
Tell you what, I will do something with this pretty machine and post it here later ;)

to be continued…….
