Has the innovative race of creating the next useful social website come to a stop? why? and how long?
The last known Social site that has made an impact is over 4 years old. So there is no social site that has been invented or created, no idea has come to anyone’s creation table since 06. There have been evolutions and “reinventions” of websites, but nothing that can 100% be called creative or new. We have seen Social websites pop up that are clones of or hybrids of other websites, but that isn’t quite creation or new.
Twitter and Jaiku. That’s it. Jaiku is older than twitter. So Twitter it’s self is in theory a rip off of Jaiku. Before that was Joost. Joost of course came out with a messenger when it was first created. You would install Joost so you can watch movies on your computer, but there was also a movie voting system, along with the movie voting system there was also a messenger/chat system. So you could talk to other Joost users who are watching the same movie or tv show as what you are watching.
Today there is one. Only one social network out there that everyone still uses. That social network is the one that all tech people were certain would flop. Facebook. Facebook of course is the website that really wants you to only add people to your friends that you already know. Now that isn’t very social. Is it? It’s more of an address book. Some modifications to Facebook have allowed you to add more features and add more friends, and add annoying nagging video games.
We did see Myspace fall recently. We just saw Myspace build it’s self over again. But no one came to see the new place. The few that looked hated Myspace. because well, Myspace was over bloated.
Chatrooms are completely gone. Forums are all trolled up and spam flooded. Unless someone reinvented the chatroom, that venue seems to be dead.
Revision 3 needs what techtv had. A Live show that people could interact with. like Chris pirillo’s show. Live.Pirillo.com . That would save Revision3. Especially if they did this with diggnation. Maybe once or twice a month
Is communication dying?
If anyone knows of a new social network that seems to be ground breaking or potentially ground breaking, tell people about it. Post it here. I would love to try this social network/ social media.

Things Facebook Needs
Hey, great place. Facebook is free. I know.
But it isn’t a perfect place.
at first I didn’t mean to log into Facebook and rant to my friends about what I think the place needs. Every single day.
It just happened. Facebook fricken screams for me to notice things about it. some of the things I rant about on Facebook are just jokes and staying with my typical theme. So without further suspense about how I feel about Facebook.
Facebook needs
Facebook needs a media player so I can set my own playlist of crap I like so my friends get a chance to sample it as apposed to flooding up the screen with youtube videos… because … well.. that’s pretty much all you got.
Facebook needs ignore a link. If you keep getting the same link from all of your friends and you do not want to ignore your friends 1 by 1. Would be nice to ignore that link.
Facebook needs a fricken time line. I hate logging in to see the crap I saw yesterday. Every post is 17+ hours old. I have to wait 17 hours before I can see what is going on right now????
Facebook needs a thumbs down button. Really you have to check your friends from time to time. If you constantly post only the positive in anything. Well for one, you are a froot! and mainly you do not point out the flaw in their theory. You do not prevent your friend from jumping in a bear cage, just because they like animals, and think the whole world should be more loving.. KINDA like This.
Facebook needs to get rid of that stupid bar at the bottom of the screen. We hated that bar when AOL forced it on us, we hated that bar when netzero forced it on us. We hate that bar.
Facebook needs in the idea of the bar at the bottom, How about private chatrooms that only our friends and their friends can go in. or something like that.
Facebook needs to actually be social. Nothing worse than trying to meet someone and getting a pop up saying ‘ do you really know this person???” how is it social to only meet people you already know ??????
Well I’m out of stuff for now. You can leave ideas below. Comments are open.
Mark Zuckerberg Rumored Buying Myspace
Story is that Mark Zuckerberg is buying Myspace.
I don’t see it happening. I see the chance that Mark and crew might implement even more stuff like Myspace content to their site, but not a buy out.
but the rumor says that Mark Zuckerberg and crew are going to bring it in, all Myspace links will still work, and there will be a slow gradual change of advertisements from Google adsense to the Facebook platform of advertisements.
Also within this rumor is the chatrooms will be brought back. Your existing Facebook profile and Myspace profiles will then merge, you have the option of which one . I doubt that. I see Facebook not wanting anything but their own.
I personally would like to see Myspace buy out yahoo or merge with Yahoo. and run Yahoo advertisements. Have you ever seen Yahoo’s chatrooms? Spam farm. They have no control of their own network.
I would also prefer to see MSN bring back their chatrooms and work more on their Myspace killer (lol) they started but never completed.
I would also like to see aim chat (or what ever in the heck aol used to have for their chatrooms)get in on this deal and use their servers or what ever is left of them
The more the choices we have, the more innovations we have and the more freedom to choose what network and what abilities we want to use and have. As of now there are still a few social sites that are sitting stale. Why not move them all up?
What social Changes would you like to see ?
Warning!!! Facebook Dislike Button – Fake
This is sort ofr old news but I have some slow friends and I know you do to.
So when you run into one, send them a link to here.
and just to make it so you don’t look like a jerk for sendingthem here, smart people need this information!
There is a link to a “facebook dislike” both website and a button.
They are both fake and do not do what you want them to do.
Here is an old Mashable link that explains the situation better.
Facebook Dislike button is fake.
So if you do not wnat your account spamming something out that is below your taste, and making your om, granny, ex-boyfriend think something about you that you do not want them to think about you.
Don’t think there is a new “Dislike”
It’s not real unless posted on the front page of facebook..
It’s just as much a fake as the old myspace gimmick “see who is reading your page”.
So many people fell for that vanity scam.
So There is an Anti Facebook Hype
Mashable blog request you leave Facebook.
Really? Everyone is shunning Facebook and bashing it? You are throwing a tantrum because the owners of Facebook are making this “Social Network” a tad bit closer to actually being social? You people are getting really pathetic. The same in crowd hipster doofuses that like to bring things up and break it down because you already used it so now it’s not cool …. douchebags.
Sorry to say it but you are being unreal. I hate facebook because their functionality is complete utter garbage. I am not throwing a tantrum about how they are making their social site actually become social. In fact I have forever hated the fact that people call it a social network yet you can’t meet someone. They have to know you before they can add you. There is nothing social about that.
So My only conclusion is that you people are being complete total hipster wannabes with huge antisocial-subconscious wanting to further recluse and separate yourself from the world even further. You clearly are not the early adapter first gen of the tech world who of course jumped on Facebook the moment it opened to the public. Those people are gone or have learned to accept it for what it was and just opened their profile to the public manually.
You are the same group that made a huge move for Myspace to lock the children separate from the adults. But said nothing when the games on Myspace came out and the kids wanted more game buddies so they opened their profiles and started adding all of the dirty old farts in greasy neck shirts, just because they want one more person in their mafia farming their vampires or what ever. Luckily Myspace consumed it’s ownself by releasing those games and making the adults get sick and leave the place. Now the only thing there is the kids who play the games and the trash hunting them.
If you shut up and stop drawing attention to Facebook, it will consume it’s self next, they are bringing in all the same games.
How about you go after that video chat that requests you to talk to strangers? Make a movement that is worth something. You geeks are just bashing for a current trend. Trendy geeks, I have no other defining words for you.. Well I do but hey.
You enjoy your rally of nothingness.
Why I Hate Linkedin
The number one thing I hate the most is a friend in my address-book sending me crap to sign up to. I hate that friend who is so stupid they sign up to a site and it asks them the password to their email account so the website can see how many of their friends are on that website’s services. I hate when that person comes back to me the next day asking me how they can get their email back from the spammer who stole it. I hate having to fight with and for them at the same time.
Nothing makes me want to say ” Dude you are an idiot, I got the email the day you signed up to “insert site name here, here, here, here. So I know exactly how you lost your email password.”
Websites that force you to give up your email password so you can use their services, IMHO have no respect or scruples whatsoever. The people who sign up to those sites, further encourage them to think it is okay to do so.
How does this all tie into linkedin?
I see this when I hit the “Home” button. It takes me to that lump of tacky steaming hot junk. So I went through the whole set up of trying to just give it my email and password, because they wanted to “see how many friends I have using it” it shows i have 114 in my addy book, and forces me to select as many as I have to invite them all. I unchecked everyone and selected accept send or what ever, it refreshed and made me sign back into linkedin, and it showed me the same page. I am appalled by this. I thought this was a tech community, not a “hey the internet used to be full of scammers who did this all the time and people fell for it and we all called them idiots but these are different days now so it’s it is ok now” type of website full of morons who make sparkly myspace web-pages that cause seizures.
I clearly am not accepted at linkedin because my I.Q. Is clearly far to high.
Comparing Social Networks
We have to look at the word Social first.
“It always refers to the interaction of organisms with other organisms and to their collective co-existence, irrespective of whether they are aware of it or not, and irrespective of whether the interaction is voluntary or involuntary.”
I’m not so sure about the word “irrespective”; sounds a bit redneck to me. That’s what I hate about Wikipedia. Anyone can edit it, even redneck Jim.
Well, to start…in that sense, Wikipedia is a type of social network but, let’s leave educational means of communication out of the ring of social networking and, for this case, let’s leave out YouTube and Revver. They do have nice social methods (telling people their video is crummy). Let’s not go into all of that. Also, let’s not use Digg either; their methods of filtering the spam has eliminated most comfortable social connection.
So let’s nail out the big Social Networks.
Myspace . This has been known as the trailer park of the internet. Why? Well, because of the 1997 appeal. The place is full of the mouse tracers and sparkly profiles like Geocities had. Everyone adds every person they see on there as their friend. At one time, it was like a huge challenge to get as many people as you could get added to your friends. Then you spend the next three months weeding out all of the spammers and the real freaky people. It WAS an OK place to go and just read profiles. The profiles used to be like little ” I need a friend” resumes. Now, at most, they are nothing but favorite band lists. Really, why in the heck would someone list 200 bands. The ideal list would be, at most, 10-15 bands; not every dang band you ever listened to and didn’t want to smash your head with a hammer.
Then came the use of MySpace apps. MySpace apps are games that are connected with your MySpace profile. They allow you and your friends to join in and play against others and their friends. Great concept. For those who chose to not play the games on MySpace, there’s the bulletin board. In the bulletin board you could write a short story and share it with your friends and let them comment on it or re-post it. There was also the use of the “blog system” so you could write a long story and show your friends or even share it with everyone on MySpace. Some days you could get up to 2000 reads of a blog on there. I know I have many times.
MySpace also has the “mood” section, where you can show the world your mood and give a quick explanation of your mood.
The bulletins have been taken over by the friends who have MySpace applications. Some of the applications set to default the users to post to the bulletin and they do give the option to post to the bulletin, but most people don’t take time to read that junk and they just see the words “post click yes”, so they do. Now the bulletins are flooded with “billy bob just walked three feet”. Stuff no one cares about.
It is a clunky piece of junk that has not had a major overhaul, since…well ever. But, it is an OK place to find a whole lot of people.
Facebook. Facebook is a lot like MySpace, even though the platform it is built on is different. The people join there and add as many people as they can. There is even an application to allow people to see people who know people they know. This gives them a chance to locate someone long gone. This also leads to 1000 people going “wait, who are you?? how do I know you?” For years I called Facebook the antisocial network.
Well, Facebook is just like the bulletin section of MySpace, but you really have no other means of group socialism. It is hard to just meet random people on Facebook because of the way the place is built. They are working on that, but, at the same time, they are messing up bad by integrating many features that MySpace has.
Facebook now has Apps also, just like MySpace. If you have one friend who plays the apps on Facebook, then you have a million and one invites in your inbox, 200 app gifts on your main page, and the bulletin is flooded in updates in the user’s progress in whatever game they find the most fun.
“Facebook is really sucky, with all the app invites and gifts and games and crap taking up the only means of ‘social interchange’, this place is worse than MySpace, except the custom profiles.”
Yahoo Chat .”Hi, look at my profile and lets trade pics” spam bot link farm, full of regulars who do not like new people. All of the regulars have programs to kick other users out of the room, especially if the user is prettier, wittier or cooler than them. The regulars do not kick out the spam bots. This is the epitome of what everyone ever perceived a chatroom to be. It is not what chatrooms really were.
Twitter is like the Mood and status updates of MySpace. Difference is, the place is a farm of spam, get rich quick and stick it to the man. I have lost a bit of interest in this place also. It seems Twitter has taken another route since it became mainstream. It is not quite what it looked like it would be. Yes, it is a great place for all of your followers to get a notice at one time about what you are doing or about to do or about to be or just left. Yes, that makes it awesome. Especially if you are ,for examlpe, a musician and no one knows when your show is going to happen. Musicians miss that point. Some think it would be cheesy so they refuse to connect at all; and that makes them crappy and not heart effort musicians. If it ain’t from the heart, it ain’t music.
I truly miss MSN chatrooms. That was really Social Networking. You used to be able to join a chatroom and exchange wit and banter with with up to 50 people per room. The rooms were separated into many categories. Most were separated by location, like city and state. The city chats were always full to the max of 50 people. The overflow rooms were always full of up to 50 people. The chat rolled at such a fast pace, your mind stayed well exercised. I feel as if I am getting slower by the day because there just is nothing that fast paced left to do. I can’t leave one post and wait 6 days for someone to reply to it. It’s just way to slow.
MSN says they dropped the program because it was not that big of a money maker. They have to be kidding. They had rotating banners in every single chat. With 50 people in each room, and there being over 200 main rooms, they had some serious revenue flowing in. I think they tried so hard to be like Google or to beat Google, they missed out on what was really working for them. I swear, just a little bit of innovation for their chatrooms, and they could have potentially kept MySpace and Facebook from ever coming out of the ground. Heck, those places didn’t rise well and established until the chatters had nowhere else to go. Facebook was around for at least three years that MSN still had chatrooms. Now look at the place.
Online Dating Sites 09 Review
Actually, They are all scams and full of pervs, Piggies and F tards.
We have all come to know this over the past 16 years or so. In 09 one site popped up that seems to be full of rednecks and tardos. There are enough of them out there that the site actually gets plenty of traffic. So guys, gals, if you are hard up try that site. I will tell you the sites name in due time.
See there are cheap unscrupulous ways to advertise your domain. The method that i hate the most is where it is spammed out with completely unrelated topics to what the site has. see there was a site that sent out ” look how I got rich” links all over myspace and and all over facebook and in your email and every freaking place on the internet. The site did not have anything to do with getting rich, other than to say ” I placed advertisements on my social network and got millions of people on my site in one day, I am a millionaire”. The real people without sloping foreheads know darn well the guy who created that site probably had 50 legit users and maybe 300 fake accounts registered to one email address so he could maintain them all. People would click that “get rich quick ” link and find a “meet your love” website being referenced. we all know that society understands that people without money, are without love. or wanting out of the broke love they are in.So his scam worked. We all know that someone too stupid to see the scam would clearly be to stupid to to see what’s coming next.
Plenty Of Fish. The site has millions of advertisements on it. Placed in what the site owner would call “strategic” methods. I say it’s BS and completely disrespectful to put advertisements in the manor that site owner does. Sure it makes the site owner some money, but what does it do to the user? Depends on how stupid the user is.
Here is a list of bad things about that site that makes me thing of the old websites that used to bombard you in spam.
1. affiliate/advertisement links look exactly like site navigation links (yes you can design and color them as you wish)
2. Full page advertisements, Leaves you surfing a site that is not the site you where on. Disrespectful to your users
3. Not controlling advertisement content. I got hit 4 times with virus scan 2009 hijacker (it is a well known virus) plus adult friend finder links prove the site owner does not filter their ads, otherwise the ads would not compete with the site. Adult friend finder is a well known trash advertisement site that is filled with the same issues this site is showing. I would not doubt it’s the same people.
4. No adsense advertisement. Yeah I bash adsense but I have to say, once you are banned from adsense, it pretty much says you are pretty tricky.
I have a sense of feeling that the Method that site uses to select your suitable matches, is based on how long you wait for the next time you refresh while on that page. Oh and with the slight measure of adding whether you are a smoker or not.. it matches you to people who have answers similar to yours, how about do something better, people who have answers that cover what you lack and you cover what they lack.
The whole answering of the survey is BS, just another page for you to see more advertisements, and when you are done, be taken to more advertisements.
The page to see what you are about , the results of your surveys, is complete bs ” you are king of your domain, you are yourself and proud and eat food when needed” Oh come on it’s an ego petting, like getting your palm read.
The whole chemistry page, I have a feeling the people it sets as your highest match, are thepeople who get the highest votes in the “hot or not” rip off page.
Everything 75% and below is probably more like it.. yes the worn leather hand bag looking section. lol sit on that page five minutes or more without changing anything on the site… hit refresh and get a laugh as suddenly your matches change.. yeah I know people change their profiles and stuff, but COME ON!!!
I saw the site back when it was a get rich advertisement. I heard about it from my co-worker who met like 5 girls in a two week period ( I understand why now, Piggy farm). I stumbled across it last night while doing a search in google for “Houston Chatroom”. well Plenty of Fish came up everytime i searched in every way I tried. Well so i figured what the heck I signed up to use the chatroom. After fifteen minutes of their bombardment of profile crap, I forgot why i was there and started surfing the site. Gross. The women are nasty. Either super unattractive, or saddle bags for a harley ( I mean biker chicks with leather faces). or money hungry stripper trash with IN THEIR PROFILE it says ” you must make atleast XXX,XXX money to ride me” , or hot in model positions and never online I assume fake accounts.
Well never the less, I never found the chatroom. There is no chatroom on plenty of fish. I would give the place 80% higher value if they had what they meta tag their site with. it would actually be worth looking at and could potentially be ground moving if it allowed direct real time chatroom inter mingling like a chatroom, not that stupid messenger thing on all the other sites. real time chat conversation, that is where you actually get to know the wit of someone. Not some bs profile.
Burn it down. Plenty of fish is a bad place. The women are vultures. ” I don’t need a man to support me” and then the following line will say “must have good income and nice home” ok could somehow be innocent but I do not see it . Next line says “because I have needs and if you can’t be there for my needs then you are worthless to me”
What pathetic self hating dude can fall for that garbage ?
PS… Yes I named it stupid to prove a point about what they did.
E-harmony and Friend Finder and Match, have very limited social interface. They all offer you a chance to get a bigger account by paying more.. Why? so I can talk to no one, as freely as I can? I think those three sites lose bad to Plenty of Fish. And that is sad. it is truly sad that anything can lose to that garbage.
I deleted my accounts on all of them, There was one female there on plenty of fish who seemed worth talking to. But really, she came to my profile way to fast. I felt like a baby bunny getting swarmed by buzzards and vultures and eagles. And they all made me feel crappy about myself. I do not like feeling that way. I mean hey I just got here can you please not read me the fricken riot act ?????
If you want to know me talk to me. If you ask me anything about my income within the first 20 questions of conversation, I can only assume you are a gold digger. That to me makes you worthless.

An Open Letter from Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg
Copied and pasted from facebook, Sorry I have no say on anything here except ‘What do you expect???”
It has been a great year for making the world more open and connected. Thanks to your help, more than 350 million people around the world are using Facebook to share their lives online.
To make this possible, we have focused on giving you the tools you need to share and control your information. Starting with the very first version of Facebook five years ago, we’ve built tools that help you control what you share with which individuals and groups of people. Our work to improve privacy continues today.
Facebook’s current privacy model revolves around “networks” — communities for your school, your company or your region. This worked well when Facebook was mostly used by students, since it made sense that a student might want to share content with their fellow students.
Over time people also asked us to add networks for companies and regions as well. Today we even have networks for some entire countries, like India and China.
However, as Facebook has grown, some of these regional networks now have millions of members and we’ve concluded that this is no longer the best way for you to control your privacy. Almost 50 percent of all Facebook users are members of regional networks, so this is an important issue for us. If we can build a better system, then more than 100 million people will have even more control of their information.
The plan we’ve come up with is to remove regional networks completely and create a simpler model for privacy control where you can set content to be available to only your friends, friends of your friends, or everyone.
We’re adding something that many of you have asked for — the ability to control who sees each individual piece of content you create or upload. In addition, we’ll also be fulfilling a request made by many of you to make the privacy settings page simpler by combining some settings. If you want to read more about this, we began discussing this plan back in July.
Since this update will remove regional networks and create some new settings, in the next couple of weeks we’ll ask you to review and update your privacy settings. You’ll see a message that will explain the changes and take you to a page where you can update your settings. When you’re finished, we’ll show you a confirmation page so you can make sure you chose the right settings for you. As always, once you’re done you’ll still be able to change your settings whenever you want.
We’ve worked hard to build controls that we think will be better for you, but we also understand that everyone’s needs are different. We’ll suggest settings for you based on your current level of privacy, but the best way for you to find the right settings is to read through all your options and customize them for yourself. I encourage you to do this and consider who you’re sharing with online.
Thanks for being a part of making Facebook what it is today, and for helping to make the world more open and connected.
