Things to think about – AT&T Acquisition of T-Mobile

Well we all know by now that AT&T Bought T-Mobile .

Me being a T-mobile user,I have a few questions for the AT&T users.

Do AT&T users expect their internet speeds to increase now that they have T-Mobile hardware providing their services ?

Do AT&T users expect AT&T to scrap all of T-Mobile’s existing Cell phone tech, like towers, phones and such ?

Do any of the AT&T users look forward to any of the T-Mobile phones making it their way?

I know that if AT&T keeps T-Mobile towers and equipment (since both companies use similar technology) , then I am looking at a pretty strong signal in my area. I know that I have 3 bars when my signal is really really bad. and that is very rare. That would lead to a decent signal in the areas that I sometimes have only three bars. Of course that’s if AT&T is strong in that area.

See this is good compared to the purchase of Primeco back in the late nineties in Houston area. I think they still exist elsewhere. AT&T being GSM and Primeco being CDMA, meant we all had to hand in our phones for scrapping. Primeco ran a big sale so I signed a contract with them and spent $139 on a phone that I got at a discount. The best phone signal I have ever had yet to- date. Back when no one had a signal at Fry’s Electronics store, I had signal. When the power was out for 4 days, and all cell towers were down, no one had a signal but me and the three other people in the area that had Primeco.not AT&T not T-Mobile, Not Sprint, Not Verizon. best thing was, that phone was one of the first cell phones to come out with no antenna. I had that dang phone for 2 months when AT&T sent me a notice saying they would give me a new phone to replace my existing CDMA phone. I was excited that the email said I would receive a fair value phone. I did not. I got the $29 Nokia phone that was the size of my shoe.  The replacement phone would not fit in my pocket. I had to wear a case with belt loop strap on it to carry that dang thing. I had an excellent signal, until I left the drive way of the AT&T store. I extended the big metal antenna. No help. Wrapped it in aluminum foil, no help. I called the store to see what they could, they suggested I move to another company if I didn’t like the signal, then they assured me they had the strongest signal with the most coverage. So I called the help number. Same thing. They actually told me to try another service if I was unhappy. So a few weeks later i called to cancel my number, they told me they just increased the signal in my area nd if I hang on a bit longer the new tower would be complete and my signal would be even stronger. So i waited almost 3 months. Nothing. I actually had to walk out to the end of the street and  extend the antenna out towards downtown Houston to see if I could get a stronger signal while on the complaint line.

After fighting months with AT&T about not having a signal anywhere, I canceled my service and moved on to Voice Stream. Who…… not even a year later got taken over by T-Mobile. Yeah I was mad. but. Voice Stream signal was bad where I was. Well it was ok. It was as bad as AT&T, but the people working there and the help desk was a whole lot more helpful during the switch over. Also the signal got better. and again, I got a new phone. No better than the one I just bought with voice stream, but it was a new phone. Again it was a Nokia.

Now here it is 2011, T-Mobile sold to AT&T. Full freaking circle. I am looking at going back to AT&T again. Because they bought T-mobile.

I am hoping that AT&T does not destroy the existing T-mobile Technology, I hope they implement the towers and the internet service that is currently available with T-Mobile. So that T-mobile users gain AT&T service along with existing service, and AT&T users gain Tmobile Services and signal and internet speed. I can’t imagine all of us using internet service that AT&T provides.

AT&T users, what do you think of the existing service ?

T-Mobile users what do you expect of the impending service?

Deutsche Telekom to receive 39 billion USD for T-Mobile USA

Deutsche Telekom: U.S. Deal Accelerates Own Transformation

Dallas, Texas and Bonn, Germany — Mar. 20, 2011 PDT

AT&T T-Mobile

  • Deutsche Telekom to receive 39 billion USD for US-business
  • Deutsche Telekom to have up to 8 percent stake in the leading US telecommunications company
  • AT&T takes over US mobile business from Deutsche Telekom
  • Deutsche Telekom will receive 25 billion USD in cash and 14 billion USD in AT&T shares
  • Attractive multiple of 7.1 times 2010 adjusted EBITDA
  • Deutsche Telekom plans to use approximately 5 billion EUR for share buybacks
  • Deutsche Telekom net debt is planned to be reduced by approximately 13 billion EUR or 31 percent

Deutsche Telekom will take an approximately 8 percent stake in US telecommunication company AT&T. At the same time Deutsche Telekom will hand over 100 percent ownership of T-Mobile USA to AT&T. This has been agreed by the boards of the two companies today. AT&T will pay 25 billion USD in cash for T-Mobile USA, in addition to 14 billion USD in AT&T shares. AT&T has the right to increase the portion of the purchase price paid in cash by up to 4.2 billion USD with a corresponding reduction in the stock component. The value of the transaction will be 39 billion USD. This will amount to an attractive multiple of approximately 7 times 2010 adjusted EBITDA. The merger still needs US regulatory approval. The closing of the transaction is expected to be completed in first half of 2012.

René Obermann, CEO Deutsche Telekom: We have achieved the best solution for our company, our customers and shareholders. This will strengthen our position in Europe, whilst we are still participating in the rapidly growing business of mobile data. We will be able to focus more on the opportunities of a modern infrastructure in Germany and Europe, as well as in Internet products that accompanies to our strategy “fix, transform and innovate”. Following our initiatives of finding a solution for our activities both in the United Kingdom and Poland, we have with this transaction nearly accomplished the “fix” part of our strategy. We will now focus our resources more on the “transform” and “innovate” blocks of our strategy in order to accelerate the transformation of Deutsche Telekom.”

Timotheus Höttges, CFO Deutsche Telekom: “As the biggest single share holder of AT&T we will also significantly benefit from their strong dividend. With the excellent result of this transaction we will be able to continue to develop our company. At the same time we will be able to reduce our debts and initiate one of the biggest share buy back programs in both Germany as well as in the European telecommunication industry.”

Deutsche Telekom is planning to reduce its debt by approximately 13 billion EUR. Approximately 5 billion EUR are planned to be used for share buybacks after closing and required resolutions in accordance with the legal requirements.

Randall Stephenson, CEO and Chairman AT&T: “This transaction delivers significant customer, shareowner and public benefits that are available at this level only from the combination of these two companies with complementary network technologies, spectrum positions and operations. We are confident in our ability to execute a seamless integration, and with additional spectrum and network capabilities, we can better meet our customers’ current demands, build for the future and help achieve the President’s goals for a high-speed wirelessly connected America.”

For Deutsche Telekom the transaction after closure will provide amongst others a consolidation of the balance sheet. Pro forma the ratio for net debt to adjusted EBITDA in 2010 will be reduced to 1.9x from 2.2x, a reduction of 31 percent.

There will be no change regarding the shareholder remuneration policy which has been set for three years. As has been provided within the legal guidelines, Deutsche Telekom will continue with its plans to pay out 3.4 billion EUR on an annual basis consisting of a minimum dividend of 70 cents plus share-buybacks. The share buybacks amounting to approximately 5 billion EUR, which are planned after the closure of the transaction, will come on top of this.

The Guidance for 2011 remains unchanged. For the financial year 2011 Deutsche Telekom expects an adjusted EBITDA of around 19.1 billion EUR. The free cash flow is expected to be stable to slightly growing from the 2010 level of 6.5 billion EUR.

Deutsche Telekom is to receive one seat on AT&T’s Board of Directors.

Morgan Stanley acted as lead financial advisor and issued a fairness opinion to the supervisory board of Deutsche Telekom. Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse acted as financial advisors for Deutsche Telekom.

Deutsche Telekom was advised by Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz (M & A, N.Y.C) as well as Cleary Gottlieb and Wiley Rein (antitrust and regulatory law, Washington D.C.).

So….. What happens to the Android phones that only T-Mobile had?
I know that AT&T and TMobile are both GSM phone companies. but, will AT&T force us Tmobile users to switch to one of their phones? are they going to charge us again like they did back when AT&T took over primeco? I mean they didn’t charge me but AT&T took away my $139 phone and gave me a $29 because that is about how much AT&T said my phone was worth to them.

On the plus side, this may actually mean that AT&T finally will have a decent signal. I do know that for the 3 years I have been back with T-Mobile, I have not yet had one dropped call. How likely is it that AT&T fixes their budget and shuts down a few cell towers to bring in the new towers from T-mobile. Leaving AT&T with the same number of towers they already had?

Just so I don’t get too far from the News side of this, I took this elsewhere.
Things to think about  AT&T and T-Mobile Merger

T-Mobile Ripping me off again

As anyone who follows anything I write on the web knows, I am buying a house. So I am cutting my costs. One of the cuts is me dropping Unlimited text messaging and internet from my phone. I use T-Mobile. Here is the first bill I received that shows the changes. My bill used to be $95 a month. I am dropping my T-Mobile bill to $39 a month.

After I reduced my phone bill from $95 a month to $39 a month

This is now three times that T-mobile has ripped me off.
T-Mobile Cell Phone Billing These people sure do some shady business. They are worse than the banks and constant over draft fees and shady billing procedures
T-mobile and Me

It would be in my best interest to just drop Tmobile completely. They seem to be out to not just collect the money they bill me for, but what ever in the heck else they can tack on . It almost feels like they are saying ” oh it was an error, but it is saved so we can’t fix it” at least if they said that, I would know the guy on the other end of the phone line isn’t a jerk.

T-Mobile, you are in every sense of the phrase, Killing me. I have been simi Homeless for a while with just a phone and a car. I am about to move into a house and you are billing me with crazy mysterious fees.

Something has to be done about this billing method that T-mobile is doing to me. There has got to bbe other people out there getting the same weird charges to their T-mobile account.

So I called T-mobile. The lady explained to me that I was being charged for the days I used the actual add ons that I used. So I asked ” so my bill got even higher?” She stumbled and mumbled. Then she put me on hold. Now understand that last month I went over by 5 minutes. I have a time limit of 300 minutes, I never use but about 30-60 minutes. So I’m bothered by the 5 minutes over = 305 minutes. When I never use my phone at all. I tried to explain that both of those answers were unacceptable. and the lady responded with ” Well it makes sense if you don’t think about it” I instantly barbled in my head. My words tangled between frustration and laughter at the fact that she just did what they say AT&T does. She said it word for word.

So I asked to speak to someone else who can help me. she said ” Ok I will put you on hold”. Yeah after five minutes of silence I realized she hung up on me. Central time for the call 12:30 noon. march 04 2011. Well my lunch time was wasted.
The second phone call was another lady, I could hear the first lady in teh background coaching her as to what she thought was going on. I am fine with that. So I let that go. In fact it couldn’t hurt for the next lady to be informed somewhat, even if it was a bit off. So I explained my case as taht I am a person who uses less than 100 minutes a month, less than 1000 a year. So for her to say that I tacked up 402 minutes in one month, is clearly an error on their part. I explained that a girl I hadn’t talked to in a year was suddenly in my fave fives again, and that I had to remove her once again last month was a clear sign of an error on their part. The lady sounded like she was frustrated by this statement but trying to keep her cool. Very good. I just do not think she was grasping what I was saying because her comment was “I can assure you that (ex’s name) is not in your fave fives” The lady said ” Assure” like 20 times in less than a minute, about many items. So I had to Assure her that I understand that she is seeing this because I changed it, so the lady repeated it back to me as if she was slightly listening but working on a new response. So I requested she focus on the conversation, and that geeked her out. because I started saying ” I can assure you” after everything I said. She offered me 100 extra minutes to prevent it from happening next month, I told her that will not do, she can give 10000000 extra minutes a month, I am still only going to use 60.
Before the phone call ended I was told that the $45 extra will be taken off the bill. It’s been about 45 minutes and nothing has happened yet. Account still shows 139+ tax.

Rip Off websites say pretty much the same thing as I say. I don’t agree with all of the posts, but some of them are dead on with what I am seeing. Look here
So does T-mobile Suck? Well no, their signal is great and the phones real nice. does T-mobile packages suck? Yes and no. If you land a package that meets all of your needs it’s great, but don’t ever change your service, or that package will be gone for ever. They change the packages all of the time. It’s like a magic cup game they have or something.
Is T-mobile scam? Holding your credit for ransom? I kind of think so. It’s fishy how all three times I tried to reduce my bill, I got nailed with some huge fricken bill of mystery charges.

10 hours later, still nothing on my bill reflecting change still shows a high bill.

Calling customer service is billable call.
That whole automated answering taking forever to get to the next menu, yeah that is billable. So when you call just say “English” wait two seconds say “speak to a representative” and just say “billing”. It knocks off about 7 minutes of menu.

18777460909
Now 24 hours later I see no reflection of change so I call T-Mobile
Man says he sees nothing that says there was an agreement to knock the $45 off my bill
after some investigating he sees that I shouldn’t be charged and tells me that I am being forwarded to Customer loyalty Department. I was on hold 31 minutes before I hang up to write this.
T-mobile clearly does not care about the customers . and the employees in the answering service, really act like they are some higher power. they are not customer service, they are the ones who just tell you ” pay your bill and shut up, we are never wrong!”.
Tmobile is ripping me off and they do not care.

Now I am calling back.

I was on hold all of about 3 minutes when Melissa picked up the phone. and she said ‘ Hey I see what’s wrong with your account, You guys never go over, I am going to credit your account, this should show within 24-48 hours, sorry for the inconvenience, enjoy your weekend”
YIPPIE!!!!!!!

Facebook Places and Grand Theft Auto trick

A few people are getting onto the sport of Grand Theft auto and Facebook Places. How? Well, funny you ask. and when I answer, you will see it funny too.
These people are checking in at locations that remind them of GTA and adding these places by the name that Rockstar games uses in the game. Like Bedford point, Alderny, vice port, Cluckin Bell, 24/7 and Hepburn Hieghts.
How cool would that be, to go to check in at a location and see that someone else has GTA defacedbooked it up, and they are currently there. Would that not be the ultimate awesome ? Greater than a rare chance that a Grand Theft Auto player will be there but hey it would be cool as heck.
If you really want to play the GTA Defacedbook game and add as many locations as you know of without leaving your house and having to drive around Try this : if you want to learn how to use Facebook places with your pc use this .

Get out there and name what you can you find. Make the names look as real as possible. because if Facebook see the Initials GTA or Grand Theft Auto  or San Andreas in the location, they will remove it. So make sure you are on the map.

HTC Thunderbolt for verizon

HTC Thunderbolt Has kick stand for watching media
Runs on Android 2.2
HTC Thunderbolt is 4g
8mp camera
4.3 inch screen
480 x 800 pixels Resolution
Comes with 32 GB MicroSD card
Uses Sim Card for 4g LTE service under battery (Iphone for verizon does not currently have)
Allows for WIFI Use.

The HTC Thunderbolt looks a lot like the Iphone 3
Similar size to the Samsung fasinate, slightly larger screen. but full phone size is smaller.
HTC Thunder Bolt unboxing, brilliant looking cell phone. Huge screen for a phone and lots of great features including 4g.

Hands on Verizon Iphone

The Verizon Iphone has been released. and seeing that I am the only Android user in the office I am in, I am surround in Iphones and blackberries. Today I get my chance to have my hands on the Verizon Iphone. Signal looks very strong. The feel is no different from the AT&T Iphone 4. There used to be one person in the office that used Android phones other than myself, but she got hold of an Iphone (3rd or what ever…older than iphone 4) and Jailbroke it and hacked the crud out of it to use on the Tmobile network. I feel betrayed, wish she made a droid of it.

Verizon Iphone Picture

Signal is strong, feel is very new and kinda heavy, feels like money’s worth

Verizon Import Contacts APp

Outer casing $20 extra, probably worth way more than that, the phone looks easy to scratch, but I didn’t try and scratch my friend’s new toy.

Verizon Iphone

To start, it’s 3g.
to back up your contacts, get the app VZ contacts, it’s much easier than anything teh salesman tries to give you.

My friend was a month from upgrade but wanted the Iphone. Had been using same phone for 4 years, (some samsung or what ever ). asked to get upgrade was told he couldn’t at a discount. He told them that would be fine he will just go to AT&T across the street get the 4g Iphone and pay off his last month at Verizon and that he was not attached to that phone number.
After a bit of discussion “with the manager” the salesman “found a loop hole”. He got his Verizon Iphone for $199.
Verizon’s  Insurance from a regular phone to an Iphone changed from $4.99 to $10.99, Other fees are still the same. To his knowledge. Here is the at&T 4g

AT&T IPhone

The AT&T Iphone In the same building and this is the Iphone 4

Should be 4g but some reason says 3g, signal might be low? Can they jump networks like that? I know my blackberry on Tmobile would go edge and then go 3g,Depending on my location, nearest tower, and interference conditions. So I assume that’s is what’s going on here.

Jailbrok T-Mobile Iphone

The Tmobile Jailbroke Iphone while in the same building. All apps work Signal is fine

FYI, This Post created on my (outdated) G1 using The wordpress app fr Android.

Playstation Phone

Let’s say “educated” rumor of the Playstation phone, will have android on it. And from the picture it looks as if the Playstation phone will use GSM.
from Mashable
I hope they modified the Android o/s to look more like playstation’s o/s. Because well, the ps o/s looks cool.
Looks like the Sony Playstation phone will be using the Ericsson manufacturing (owned by Sony).

pic of Playstation phone

I would have preferred qwerty keyboard with w-a-s-d Steering and i-j-k-l throttling and damper.

If this is the path for the Playstation Portable PSP, then it’s pretty much over for all competitors, phone wise, hand held gaming systems, Media players and anything in between or remotely close.
Only possible competitor would be Nintendo Ds from iphone or rim.
1 gig processor
512 mb ram
1gig of storage.
Should play GTAIII well and all of the GTA stories.
Maybe vice city. surely vice city stories, since the psp played liberty city and vice city stories on a much wimpier processor.
The psp phone (yeah I called it a PSP phone…) will easily play movies in pretty high resolution. Considering my G1 does pretty good and my PSP does pretty well.

Android G2 Phone is out now

Looks like a nice phone but the keyboard looks tiny. Specs 512 megs of ram is amazing and a 4 gig storage on board is crazy goodness. all the aps you cant install on older droid phones. plus an 8 gb mem card expandable to 32 gigs. ME WANT!

Exactly what we needed. This is the G2. Htc you and T-mobile have really done well this time.

Back of G2

I am going to have to order myself a G2 and chunk my G1 in a drawer for a few months. Unless I really like the G2.

My only complaint or wish is I hope they aren’t all that brushed steel look. I hope there is a black brushed steel looking version of these phones.

T-mobile and Me

After three and a half years with T-Mobile. I am done, again. Yeah I was with T-Mobile a few years back. I left them for sprint. That in it’s self was a nightmare. I later moved to Cricket who really had good service, but the phones looked like garbage and had nearly no features. After a few years I left Cricket and went back to T-mobile. I guess it was long enough that I forgot what I hated so much about T-mobile. T-mobile had a really nice looking phone they were offering for free with a $39 a month contract. That was a great a deal, considering I was sick of the cheap plastic barely functioning phone I had.
As soon as my new Motorola Rizr showed up in the mail, Google released the G1. I had just signed a two year contract and couldn’t change to the G1. Two years later I finally got my G1.
I was happy with all of the features the phone had, The cool aps that let me log into facebook from anywhere, the myspace ap the twitter ap and all of the little games. All of the additional software you add to the Google G1, neat stuff. but now I was paying 92.40 a month. That’s $100 a month for 300 minutes, unlimited internet, unlimited text. My cricket account I had everything unlimited for $59 a month, but a crappy phone.
I got fed up with the T-Mobile bills so I logged into their website and changed my settings. I ditched the G1 and changed to a blackberry I had in a drawer. Knocked everything down to reflect $59 a month. This was on the 18th of august. My bill was due on the 21st. The next day I got text message from T-Mobile showing my bill will reflect the changes starting on the 19th of August. Here it is, today is the 1st of September, my bill shows I will be paying $91 on my next bill. This of course is before tax. So, something is wrong with my account.
Today I make a call to T-mobile by just pressing 611 on my Blackberry. I go through the whole automated voice thing. I get a second voice that comes on and says all of the representatives are busy and they could call me back in 8 minutes if I opt in. So I did. 8 or 9 minutes later I get a call. There was tons of noise. I could hear dishes, lots of laughter. It sounded like either a bar or a very popular crowded restaurant. i was not sure the guy could hear me at all. There is no telling what was going on up there. Probably someone’s birthday. I am not in anyway mad about celebrating at the office. I am cool with that. just bothered by the fact I didn’t get my issue resolved. The guy really sounded like he did not want to take that call. but he was nice. Just not very involved. The guy tells me that it’s just me paying for last month. No I paid for last month and the text message confirmed this. I told him I was considering changing to another plan they have and he brought to my attention that I would not get the phone deals. I laughed and told him they sold me a G1 that was two years old for $100 off of the $400 price they showed on their website while at the same time the same phone was all over the internet for sell for $150 and less. He plaid “oh your cheap, cheap people aren’t cool” bit with me by saying ” Oh yeah if you go to ebay you can get all sorts of used stuff for almost free”. I popped off with ” Well compusa-tiger direct, and fry’s have ebay accounts and well they were not selling used phones” Before he could go off on what ever he was about to get into, I asked if it would just be cheaper if I dropped my T-mobile account all together. He offered some other plan that would have lowered my bill by like $2. I had to end that call. It was getting goofy, so I said “I have to shop around for a new phone and carrier I will be calling later to pay off the contract”. That phone call had to end.
I have to call back tomorrow. I will keep calling back each day until I get this resolved. if they refuse then at the end of this billing period, I will drop their service. I would do pretty well if I drop off the grid again. i have been getting alot of wrong numbers lately and it has been getting worse. So it would be nice to get a whole new number. Seems some moron out there knows nothing but dyslexic people, or he is himself.

so let’s see what T-mobile does. I think it has run it’s course.

Oh, here s picture of my billing.

T-Mobile, unexplainable bill

I added a post on T-mobile’s website
